Cast Iron Lamb Cake Pan

I have a Lamb Cake pan my mother used for years. Heavy, cast iron.

She always put the back section on the top and the cake batter rose to fill, like it was molded.

I put batter in each side, bake them side by side, and glue the sides together with icing to form the whole lamb.

I'm sitting here, wondering if others have the same old pan and how they make their Easter Lamb? Any hints to help save the lamb's ears would be appreciated....those ears never seem to make it.
