Use onions from brine?

My friend gave me a recipe for pork tenderloin that starts with a brine using onions. The tenderloins have been in the brine for 24 hours. Later in the directions is says to saute the same amount of onions used in the brine, but does not say whether it is the same onions from the brine or a new batch. Is it ok to use the onions from the brine or should I slice a new batch? Thanks!
