This past week i have had 2 hummers left...seeing them less and less.....this am I got up and went out on the deck to see if i could see them and i saw 1......have not see any since and usually i see them more than once before noon...I'am thinking the one i saw this am was a passerby...I keep one feeder up till end of oct....I'am a little NE of Grand rapids

Ambitious plan! I love the drawings. I don't know what zone you are - but unless you're way south - you may as well plant all your peppers at the same time - they ripen as they do and if you keep them picked, will keep bearing peppers until temps or conditions shut them down. Mine get very tall and need staking - but I grow a lot of heirlooms. Another zone issue - sugar peas hate heat. You may find that planting this late that you might get more production from pole beans in their space. If you're using height for choosing where to locate plants - the carrots are likely to be less tall than the chard or even lettuce. Perhaps swap carrots and radishes with lettuce? And move chard back a row? If you cut a leaf or few at a time with chard, it will keep producing through the season. I like to interplant herbs between lettuces. Dill looks so pretty between plants. For empty spaces - I love beets, but they aren't everyone's favorite. Bush beans can be a nice addition - they are very easy to grow and improve your soil. Thought i'd share the last tom for 2006.This is one of the hybrids grown. My best understanding is this is a celebrity/Monte carlo.Thin skin,lots of flavor,and soft flesh.They're great for sandwiches,but don't fare well in a grilled cheese. Image link:

"ol Dungey doesn't look like he's any happier about those maters than you are, LOL!" -- hmmmm, maybe I should have phrased that a little differently, but I didn't expect what I posted to be be taken quite so literally. Since I too have spent a fair amount of time catching and cooking seafood in RI, NJ, and FL, I assumed that EVERYONE could see that he'd been for his last swim, probably in that large pot that he's perched on. So maybe it was a rather silly comment to post, but even so, I still like the mournful "Oh, sh!t" expression on ol Dungey's "face". Someone needs to come up with a good cartoon caption for that pic. -- BC --
