Substitute for wheat bran in muffins?

Posted by ovenbird (My Page) on

I'd like to make this recipe for muffins, but don't have wheat bran (or oat bran) on hand and would prefer not to make a special trip to the store. I do have wheat germ but am not sure if that would work since it calls for 1 cup. Any suggestions on substitutions? Thanks!

I think you will be fine subbing 1/2 cup wheat germ and 1/2 cup extra whole wheat flour for the wheat bran....
That's a pretty forgiving recipe.

Linda, thanks for the suggestion. I'll keep it on file. My SO surprised me and went shopping. He returned with 3 bags of wheat bran...said he didn't know how much I needed! He's a keeper!
