I am teaching Lily to make potholders on a metal loom like I did when I was a kid, I must have made a hundred of them. I think I sold them for a quarter a piece.

Great job, Tami. My sister made some wash cloths like that for me. At first I was afraid to use them, but she insisted I do. Now, I love them as they are great for scrubbing.

I am glad you like them! I was hoping they would get there soon. The P O told me Thurs. but I wasn't sure if they would really get there by then. The thin one with the V shaped design is a dishcloth, but does work in a pinch under a hot dish on the table. I enjoyed making them for you. I like to crochet and knit much more than I like to cook! If you wear them out, let me know. I love your kitchen!

Tami, again...thank you so much! Your hotpads are the only hotpads in our kitchen and I can't imagine needing any others. We've been using rags from the garage. Believe me - yours are a LOT prettier (and safer)! lol

Westsider - the granite is the same that was there before the flood. What you see in the CCC picture is all the work space available in the entire kitchen (very small house). We found a remnant and I have no idea if it has a name. After the flood, Brad (our GC) said the lower cabinets had to be torn out but he thought the granite could be saved. He got it off in one piece and reinstalled it!

dcarch - yes, the rolling pin is huge. But, it's easier, for me. One roll in each direction and I can take dough to 24"x8" for cinnamon rolls. It's ball bearings. I've had that rolling pin for decades. The meat slicer is a replacement for the one we lost in the flood. It's significantly larger than what we'd expected. We're considering opening a sandwich shop! :)

Mabel - Every house needs, imo, whimsey so we don't take ourselves too seriously. I love my rooster also. Got him from, where else, etsy! Etsy has become my new BFF while trying to refurnish. The door is painted in chalkboard paint.

Except for the flooring, the kitchen looks pretty much like it did before the flood. Reordered the same appliances we had before, saved the countertops, and same cabinets (sorta). We had budgeted for all new cabinets but the lead time in ordering prevented that from becoming reality. So, our GC rebuilt the lowers with fir bases and made the doors/drawer fronts to match the uppers. We had Wicanders cork flooring before but the color is different now. Even the backsplash is the same. We lost the bottom three rows of tiles but because we'd purchased originally from a local store/installer he went way out of his way to get those rows replaced for us in a darn good match even though they were 8 years old. I'll post a few pictures before/after on the other side when we're a bit more settled/picture friendly.

I am so glad you like them! I'm just sorry that I couldn't get them done sooner. But, the baby blanket had to come first! Gabriel was born 6 weeks early, and arrived before his shower. He is now a healthy 8# and home with mommy and daddy.

Rusty, I just went by what Tricia told me her colors were. If I could get grey in crochet cotton, she would also have greay hot pads, not just the grey pot holders.

Sally, your question came up in my original thread. Seems most people call them "pot holders". Don't know why I grew up with "hot pads"? One of those weird regional differences.

Sally, for me, pot holders are just that, to hold hot pots with. Hot pads, are to put hot pots ON. But the ones I crochet are heavy enough that you can do both with them if you like. You don't want anything holey to grab them with, but to set them on it's ok.

The dish cloth will be to thin to grab hot dishes/pots with. Tho I do use them to set hot stuff on on the table.

Tami....who needs to do a bunch of these and dish cloths for shower prizes for August, when we have DS's fiance's bridal shower!

Okay, I suspected that. I've always called pot holders "hot pads," and the things you put hot pots on I've called trivets. I know that trivets are typically made of stoneware, wood, or metal, but silly me calls even the ones that are cloth, "trivets."

Sally, around here they can be and are called whatever anyone grew up calling them. I hear all of the above, depending on who I am with.
