Kitchenaid Artisan mixer; paint loss

I received an Artisan mixer for Christmas and use it about once per month, occasionally twice. The paint is flaking off the paddle. Is this a problem with all Kitchen aid mixers?

Contact KA and tell them what has happened. I cannot imagine them not sending you a new paddle! We just had a problem with an older Black and Decker coffee pot and they just mailed us a brand new one! I cannot imagine that KA would not be just as good! I have never heard of this as a problem on KA though. Just email them and include your phone number and address and I bet they will send you a new one right out...or better yet, call them! They will probably want the serial number so have that ready and any other number you find on the mixer.

I doubt you are the only one. Some production runs go foul for some reason. They should make good on that. I would call and talk to a human and don't give up...call again if not satisfied. Or e-mail. Mine is aprox 5yrs old with no problems.
Last year i had a high end blender container that had a hairline crack not noticed at first.
(right out of the box)...not detected until a creamy soup sat in it a few minutes. I e-mailed and re e-mailed again, "please advise what to do". A new one was in the mail within a few days. (the receivers need to pass the info on to the problem solvers and then to the packing and delivery dept...)

What a great thread - I have the original white, lift bowl Model K 5A. And I have to confess that many times over the years I've been tempted by the siren call of those glorious cobalt, pistachio and and chrome machines. But I have a strong sentimental attachment to my Kitchen Aid and I still remember the day my husband and I purchased it. While waiting to have the tires changed on our 1971 Plymouth Duster we wandered across the parking lot to a Best Products store. He spied me eyeing the mixer and encouraged me to buy it. I thought it was too extravagant - we were living on one income and he still had 2 more years of med school. But we had been scrimping and watching every penny and DH was working in the lab on weekends so he bought it for me. I still have the receipt, I use it as a bookmark inside my Joy of Cooking. That was 11/20/1976 and I paid $164.89 for it. And it's also the first thing I look for when I check a bridal registry - it's my favorite gift. Maire

Mine is also the 4-1/2 qt tilt-back head, in cobalt blue and I can't remember exactly how long I've had it, but several years anyway. Got it for a great price at Tuesday Morning. What I want to add is don't be fooled by the quart thing into thinking you can't mix large quantities unless you buy the mega model. I bake routinely and I have a super cookie cookbook put out by an Amish community. As you can imagine, they don't bother with the batches that make 4 dozen. Those recipes are written in quantities that make 11 to 12 dozen cookies at a crack. Often I will reduce that, but the first time I tried a recipe as written I looked at the bowl and thought this probably will not work. It's appearance is deceiving, because I got it all mixed without a problem. My friend however, felt she needed the 6 quart with lifter, and although she likes it, it was too tall to live on her counter under the upper cabinets so its home is on a shelf in the garage off the kitchen door. I'm sure because of that, it doesn't get used nearly as often as she had imagined. Whatever you get, you will most likely be thrilled with, because the KA truly works very well.

Linelle, Thx! I will try the extra long mixing. I also chill my dough when I have time. My grandmother (96 and still making cookies) told me to use extra flour which also helps with the spreading. I watch my cookies like a hawk and take them out right before they look done :) I love the dough and the cookies! I have a gray KA mixer that I love but now that it's on my new counter, in my new kitchen, I really, really, really, want a pretty color!!! Oh but the guilt in getting something new when what I have works just fine.... hatethecold- I am stealing your screen name :)

I had the big kitchenaid pro that I used weekly for making honey wheat berry bread but it broke apart at the housing for some reason. DH said he couldn’t fix it, he can usually fix anything, Kitchenaid said to send it in and they would take a look. I didn’t ask about shipping either I ordered a Magic Mill instead and have no regrets. It had a learning curve but after the first time my bread is just as good as ever. I still have a Kitchenaid artesian with the glass bowl sitting on the counter but I’ve only used it once since getting the Magic Mill. I’m sure I will use it for smaller things just haven’t been in a baking, cooking mood we have just been so busy around here that if I get dinner on the table I feel I’m doing good.
