Lucky Lady...ME!

Big birthday coming up for both of us so Clive and I decided to take a special cruise to forget about it...I mean celebrate.

The really exciting part is that The Bob Appetite Culinary school is on board and the kids and Clive gave me classes as a Christmas gift !!!

I've booked six classes. Here they are with a very brief description.

French Bistro .....Classical country style French Dishes

Essential Pepin........teaching 10 of the basic culinary techniques

A Passion for Pasta.....fresh pasta and simple sauces

Sultry Spanish Tapas .....ten different tapas from the various Regions of Spain

Crazy for Crepes.....basic of savory and sweet crepes

Southern Comforts.....Favourite dishes from Southern US.

How special is that and how lucky am I ? just cannot tell you how excited I am . Promise to take lots of pics.......

OMG! A cruise and cooking school, how fantastic is that. Are you taking the European or Australian cruise? I have been looking it to this as I don't like "just" cruising, I want to be doing something (besides eating and gambling) while out to sea. I did take a few Le Cirque cooking classes last cruise.

Looking forward to the trip report.

Oh gosh, Lucky, those are so pretty! I really like how you have them displayed on the silver tray, too. The prices for those tea cups & saucers is wonderful. I don't recall ever seeing them before but love the pattern. I live in a rural area, too. I'm about a half an hour north of Albuquerque and about 40 minutes south of Santa Fe. so everything is a drive for me. But, both cities do have tons of great shopping, etc., so I can't complain. I was born and raised in the suburbs in Michigan, and thought I'd never want to live in the country. It took me a while to get used to all the quiet and open space, but now I wouldn't change it at all! Jane, I think you WOULD have a great business doing that! I've never been to NYC and, although I'm anxious to go someday soon, I'm petrified at the thought of trying to get around in such a huge, crowded city! And, I used to work in downtown Detroit, so I am (was) used to large cities. I've told DH that when we do go, I want to hire a private guide to show us around . . . and so we don't get lost! Susie, I am so sorry. I wish you the best of luck with your Mother. I really believe you need to control your own life. You can make demands on your Mother. You can make demands on your siblings. It may take them a while to understand you are no longer a doormat but you need to do it. Do not take time off work to take your Mother to the Doctor, tell, don't ask her to either change the appointment or call a sibling. You don't need POA to talk to her Doctor, her Mother just needs to sign a release, if you go into the appointment with your Mother, consent is implied and you and the Dr. can talk along with your Mother unless she tells the Dr. not to say anything. I would tell her firmly no more shuttle to Dr. appointments without a release. Unfortunately, you can't do anything to make your Mother become more social, take an antidepressant or less nasty to you. You can change how you respond to it... and you really need to. In my situation, I had several very sick relatives and my sister took care of them all. My Aunt had ALS and was of sound mind but could not take care of her body. My sister did everything for her and my Aunt just expected it. Eventually my sister had to put her into a facility, my Aunt never forgave her, but the day after my Aunt moved out of the house, her 5yo daughter stopped wetting the bed. The stress my sister was under was incredible. You should take care of your Mother but you don't have to be her slave or respond to unreasonable demands. The sooner you stop the easier it will be either for your Mother to do a little better or another sibling to step in. Good luck. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I love you too. When we lived in Ohio we named our property "Woof and Purr Acres". Maybe that name had something to do with it, but we always had a lot of stray cats find their way to our house, some very wild. The humane society helped me with catch them alive traps, got them neutered/spayed, then returned them to me and helped with the food. I raised the kittens those cats had prior to spaying (we kept 5 of them...all males) then the other 12 after I had them tamed and very loving, we took to the humane society lady. However, one didn't want to stay with her...kept coming back out of the cage to us. Hubby gave in and back home with us it came. LOL Had we stayed in Ohio the lady wanted me to take in all little kittens that needed tamed. She said she never saw such well adjusted, loving kittens. I would have loved doing that, but wanted out of Ohio to Georgia more. We brought 9 cats with us when we moved and are now down to 3. Sadly I think one won't be with us much longer. Like us they are getting old. Every cat and dog we have ever had, we've always had spayed or neutered. I am a firm believer in that.

Dear little baby. You are so lucky, and so kind. I am now surrounded by three Schnauzers, Barney (mine), Sammy and Roxy, my daughter's kids, I am babysitting for one week. I also have a Shepherd named Scooter, two cats, Rocky and Marvy and just yesterday was talked into bringing home a 5 month old calico from our vets office. My long haired Callie died a couple of years ago. Like you, I said I need something else to care for and feed like a hole in the head, but......she is so sweet and really puts these dogs in their places. Our first Schnauzer was named Princess Anastasia (Annie) and died 3 years ago in June. Schnauzers are such loving dogs, they love attention, petting, and snuggling with those they love...which is just about everyone. They can be headstrong and stubborn but we always send our pups to training classes then work with them afterwards. You will love your little friend. Congratulations to you.

"Bob Appetit"... Is that name reserved for courses at sea? ;)

This sounds awesome! I'm a little iffy on the whole cruise thing (never been on one) but cooking classes would put it in a whole 'nother league. Jealous!

I agree I am so lucky and oh so excited.

LOL Food.....cruising isn't for everyone. We like it but we are careful to choose smaller ships and interesting itineraries. Places we may otherwise never get to and places I don;t necessarily want to spend more than a day or two at.

When the kids were in their early teens we found it a great way to give them some freedom ....but always knew where they were. Great programmes for kids that free up Mom and Dad to do grown up things ;) These days we avoid kid friendly cruises...we did our time! LOL

Cathy , the cruise starts in Tahiti and ends 39 days later in New York City..includes Bora Bora, Easter Islands, Lima , Machu Pichu, the Panama canal, Columbia, Venezuela and a few Caribbean Islands, then on Charleston and New York City... PINCH ME!

While I'm cooking, Clive will be diving.

Nancy, Internet is way too expensive on board so unless we find hot spots all my reporting will be at the end...but I am keeping a diary.

We leave in 4 weeks!!! Did I say how excited I am. !!!!

GWlolo, the cruise line is Oceania. Not sure if all their ships have the culinary classes.
