Is it necessary to use the pizza stone rack? Not at all.....
I have glass bread pans, can I use them on the stone? There is no point, the stone is meant to draw moisture out of the bread and make a crisp crust.
My oven has four rack positions, for bread making, do I put the stone on the bottom rack ( free form and/or pans ) ? Way to go....and use it with free form bread.
Should I wet the stone before pre-heating? No..
Anything I need to know about using the stone in an electric oven? Pre heat it at least 20 minutes....some say a lot longer...but have the stone hot when you slide your bread onto it.
Anything else I need to know about using it for bread? Never wash it with soap...just scrape off the bas stuff and leave it in the oven when you clean, if it gets too yucky.

Linda, do you mean leave it in the oven during the self clean cycle? The instructions that came with the stone I recently purchased said not to do that.

Sally, I never take mine out of the oven. I just leave it on the bottom rack. Like Linda, I bake my breads directly on the stone. And I have always cleaned mine with the self-cleaning cycle. But not all pizza stones are created equally and some will not withstand the high heat of a cleaning cycle.

When you are baking or roasting other things, like casseroles or cakes, etc.... you can place the pan directly on the stone. Including glass pans.

I didn't know about Search when I started in the CF.
But now I check things out first, before I Post , ( not all the time)
To look for pre answered Questions.
That way it leaves room for Cooking and Recipes.

Lou, just so you know, one of the things that I love about the cooking forum and the people here is that we never mind answering questions over and over again. Unlike some of the other forums, we don't care if the subject has been covered in the past or even recently. I'd rather someone asked than feel like they had to search for the answer first.

And Lou, there is no "might" about it. You do have something and you very much count.

Ann, I agree that I don't mind answering the same questions over and over. I also agree that Lou DOES have something and that it counts very much!

I also find that the search function is pretty much useless.

Sorry, Rita, I can't help you with the stone. I had one, thought it was far too much trouble and gave it away to the boss. She also thinks it's too much trouble and keeps trying to give it back, LOL.

My pizza stone stays in the oven all the time. I'm glad it was there last night when I blew up a potato, it caught most of the potato innards...makes it easier to clean up.

My stone is in the oven all the time, I never take it out. It sits on the bottom rack in my electric oven. I never wet it. I'm interested in what Ann said about using glass pans on hers, I don't. I worry about them shattering but I place every other type of pan/dish on it.

Another who is Ok with answering questions that have been asked before. You just never know what new perspective you may get and there are always new folks on the forum who may benefit from subjects that have been discussed before but may not think to ask the question.

And Lou...you are worth your weight in pizza dough and red gravy!

I have answered the same Questions myself, many, many,many, times.

Now I use the Search Box, which I just did today and found a wealth of Knowledge,
on Pizza and Bread Stones, that I have fogotten about.

It's not true, about not finding info. Here, on the Internet, on TV, or in Cook Books.
This is how everyone of us here, has learned to cook.

Must have been at least 2 years old.

I have asked many Questions myself.
It is true that we don't mind answering Questions.

I leave mine in the oven nearly all the time, too, but haven't run the self cleaning cycle in a very, very long time. I kept waiting for a cold night, then when we'd have one, I'd forget to do it. Now it's spring, and the cold nights are quickly disappearing. Oh, well, I guess my oven will have to wait till next winter to be cleaned. My pizza stones are safe!

This is what I was talking about.
When Pizza or Baking Stones were posted a while back,there were many things covered.
Size of the Stone, thickness, air circulation, Etc. !!!

Not all these things were talked about here.

I let it go, to see if they would be brought up, but they weren't.

AND ! this Post will drop off into Never Never Land, soon.
I don't have the time to Search your's and can't remember everything.

When you get older you learn to make every minute
count for something.

Take a few minutes and "Search " for your answer.
Then, if you don't understand something, come back and ask.
