There is a little restaurant in Victoria that makes Ramen noodles. You can eat in, but they also sell just the fresh noodles.

That's only a 14 hour drive and a 1 1/2 hour ferry.

(We love that movie....DH's favorite scene was the restaurant scene with the knowledgeable lackey out-ordering his superiors. I love watching the egg exchange between the lovers.....)

North Orange county is probably closer. Gomen is the best.

I really was hoping someone could help choosing a brand of packaged Ramen noodles. There are so many brands take Mr. Noodles they are starchy and too thick if cooked longer they get mushy. Nong shim have a better flavor but still they don't get that smooth slippery feel without getting mushy. Both of these brands tend to be more yellow that the ones I have in my memory. Noodle connoisseurs. There are so many different brands to try I would like to narrow it down to about 10.

Do you have a Mitsuwa near you? I buy their store brand frozen ramen and dress it up with vegetables, boiled eggs and store bought char siu pork from the same place.

I am in northern Canada we only have safeway, superstore and walmart. Superstore has the largest variety of international foods. We also have a private filipino store. No fresh noodles within 5 hours from me.

I was also going to suggest Mitsuwa (I just raided them a few days ago) - that being said - I think I remember a similar discussion on chowhound a few years ago and the consensus was that that the dried packaged stuff didn't cut it. Wouldn't hurt to try again on egullet or chowhound.
