Know of a pressure cooker manufacturer who

Do you know of a pressure cooker manufacturer who will let you send in your dysfunctional pressure cooker for repair? I have two pcs that do not build up pressure. One is an 8 qt. Magefesa and another is somewhat smaller Kuhn-Rikon (the one that had risotto instructions on a ring on top, but it fell off). K-R wouldn't deal with it, but put me in touch with a US parts vendor who kept selling me different parts, which were difficult to install in some instances, and never solved the problem. Magefesa has sent me a new silicone gasket, but this has not helped, and I am awaiting another email response from that company. Both of these worked well initially and then stopped working after 6 to 10 uses. That's a lot of resources for 16 uses! Both are stainless steel, heavy, and seem like nice cookware. I will not buy another from a company that just wants to keep experimenting on my nickel.

What model of Kuhn Rikon do you have, and what exactly is the problem with it?

My KR got burned by SWMBO and ordering repair parts went smoothly.

You might try these folks, they should take a phone call.

It was called a "Duromatic," but I do not see the exact model on the link you have graciously supplied. It had a ring with a risotto recipe (green, not blue), and both handles are short, not long. It was originally purchased from Pacific Cutlery Direct (PCD). I have already replaced the valve assembly and the gasket. The valve assembly was difficult to insert. What I would love would be to send it in and have them repair it, if possible. I have had pleasant experience with Pleasant Hill, so I will try them, but I do not want to continue buying parts, if they will not work. Of course.

Several companies have come out with electric pressure cookers lately (sampling linked below) and I have reviewed many of them from Cuisinart, Nesco, Deni, Fagor, and Wolfgang Puck. But none of them except Fagor advertise themselves, at least in public, as canners and we know the problems with Fagor. None of them are big enough for canning as 8 qt. is the largest size and most claim only 3 pre-set pressure settings of 2.5, 5.7, and 15 lbs. pressure. Fagor mistakenly calls 15 PSI "the most popular setting" - maybe for cooking for some in the mountains of Spain where it is made, but not for canning unless you live at high altitude. I'd need a 10 PSI setting for canning and I need to be able to vent the canner and know when the pressure returns to zero in order to pressure can safely. You can't do either with these. There are limited reviews available online from Cooks Illustrated magazine, Consumer Reports (if you are a member), amazon.com, etc. and the reviews are mixed with several comments about poor lid fitting, difficulty fitting lids, wiring problems. repairs, etc. Personally I can't see an advantage to them even as a pressure cooker except perhaps for the built in timer. But as a canner, even if they qualified, I do see some serious drawbacks in the current designs. Now if someone would develop a 16-23 qt. size with proper canning settings I'd be more interested. Until then I'll stick with the tried and true and approved Big 3 (or 2 if all they say about Mirro is true) brands. ;) JMO Dave Here is a link that might be useful: Some electric pressure cookers

I'm bumping this topic because I need to bounce some ideas on buying a pressure cooker. Right now I have a T-fal that operates at a max of 12 psi and I'm looking for something that goes to 15 psi. I have the option of buying a Fissler Vitaquick for the equivalent of about 100$, but couldn't really find any info on the operating pressure (wrote them an e-mail, haven't heard back yet). Another option would be Kuhn Rikon, but from theamazon description, it also operates at about 12 psi. My husband did find another option that goes up to 15 psi - Beem. It seems a very good choice seeing that it has two pots (one 4L and one 6 L) and a basket, and it also has good reviews. But I don't know anything about this brand. What would you pick? I don't really want to go over 150 EUR, but if there's a very important reason to go over this amount, I could. Thank you! Edit: received an update from Fissler, all of their pressure cookers go to a max of 11 psi.

A friend invite me for a dinner party, she planned a couple of dishes which needed a PC, which she did not have one. She asked me to bring mine so that she could use it. When I got to her house, I realized that she had an induction cook top and my PC was aluminum. Here was how I solved the problem: I used a large induction frying pan of hers, put some cooking oil in the pan and put the PC in the pan. It worked. A very crazy way to use an aluminum PC on an induction cook top. Not recommended, and will not be posted in the cooking tips thread :-). dcarch

I don't know anything about this one, but I will say that the ones I have researched in the possibility of buying one, I definitely want one that has the brown saute option like my Aroma cooker, and the slow cooker option and steam as well so it can be multi purpose. Being able to brown and saute prior to cooking all in the same pot is extremely nice and I use that function on my Aroma cooker all the time. Not all of the new type have a lot of those options so seeing all the options on this model is a plus. But I always heavily rely on the real users reviews. If you are getting one whether it be this one or another you should research the various options so you know which ones you definitely want and which ones you can live with out. After using my Aroma cooker for so long now I would not consider a pressure cooker that did not have at the very least those three options and I would probably also want the soup/stew option also. Usually I am able to find equal or better options on sites other than qvc so just do some searching.

Depends on the models, both may have complicated spring pressure valve/indicators.

Any food particles on gaskets, safety valves, pressure valves will prevent pressure buildup for a pressure cooker.

You may want to try to disassemble all parts and thoroughly clean all parts.

For areas difficult to get to to clean, you may need a high pressure water jet to blast them clean. (dental waterjet, or pressure washer) .

Check to see if there are nicks/dents on the rim of the pot where the gasket makes contact. The rim needs to be perfectly smooth.

The rims of the tops and the gaskets are completely clean and without deformation. On the K-R, the safety valve sputters, as does the main valve. I am not sure that the main valve assembly is correctly installed (by me!). It required stronger fingers and, perhaps, a dedicated tool or two. Also, I do not think the pressure valve moves as freely as it should, and I am going to try the dental water jet method when I return home. I am not sure that my Waterpik is all that powerful, though. Mine looks much like this one, but the recipe ring was green and it was an anniversary risotto model. On the Magefesa, there is a valve through which I can see daylight, but I think it is supposed to have a membrane of some sort in it. The pressure weight valve jiggles and steam comes out, no matter what the setting. The model is no longer made, from what I can tell, but is closest to this one.

Magefesa USA has asked that I mail in the lid for an estimate and we will go from there.
