Convert cake recipe into cupcakes

| My sister in law loves this recipe and I am going to see her this weekend. I have made this as a cake once in a bundt pan but would like to try as cupcakes.
Too Much Chocolate Cake
INGREDIENTS:
1 (18.25 ounce) package devil's food
cake mix
1 (5.9 ounce) package instant chocolate
pudding mix
1 cup sour cream
1 cup vegetable oil
4 eggs
1/2 cup warm water
2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
DIRECTIONS:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
2. In a large bowl, mix together the cake and pudding mixes, sour cream, oil, beaten eggs and water. Stir in the chocolate chips and pour batter into a well greased 12 cup bundt pan.
3. Bake for 50 to 55 minutes, or until top is springy to the touch and a wooden toothpick inserted comes out clean. Cool cake thoroughly in pan at least an hour and a half before inverting onto a plate If desired, dust the cake with powdered sugar.
The recipe states this makes one 12 cup bundt cake. How many cupcakes would that be and how long should I cook them when making cupcakes instead of a cake? Should I change the temperature or keep things the same just drop the baking time?
Thank you.

Kate, it depends on the size of the cupcakes. (grin) No, really, it does. This is basically a cake mix, so it'll make what a cake mix will make, somewhere between 24 and 30 cupcakes. Leave the temperature the same, 350F, and check the cupcakes at 20 minutes. It might take a bit more, depending on the denseness of the batter, but I'm betting they'll be about done at 20 minutes. Oh, and let us know how it works out! Annie

Thank you so much Annie. You are always so good about answering my goofy questions. That number of cupcakes sounds really good and I will start checking the little guys after 20 minutes. Much appreciated and I will let you know Thursday night how things came together:) Kate

Good luck, Kate, I think the sour cream will make those little cupcakes nice and moist, along with the pudding. So, whatcha gonna frost 'em with? I just KNOW there's going to be frosting if there's a cupcake! Annie

Annie that is a great question. Let me answer your question with a question if you'll indulge me:) What frosting might travel well? I am driving from Northern CA to Washington State and it takes me upwards of 10 hours to get there. So the cupcakes will be riding in the back of my car. If I put them all the way in the back of my Subaru they won't be all hot or anything but I will have the heat on. Maybe I should frost them once I arrive at my destination? I'm not too experienced with frosting I'm afraid. About as experienced as I am with all the other aspects of cake making so in other words, very little. Again thank you. Kate

Kate, would you have access to a mixer when you arrive? You could make the icing once you get there. Or, you could make it at home, put it in a cooler to travel, then bring to room temp and ice once you are there. That cake sounds great! Tami

Hey Tami. Yes I will. I'm going to my parent's place so all the comforts of home don't ya know:) I have seen some beautiful recipes for buttercream that might be fun to try if I'm smart enough. I think it would be best probably to make it there and my Mom would enjoy helping me with it. Thank you! Kate

Kate, I agree, a buttercream would be very good. Ashley says it needs a chocolate ganache, but Ashley thinks there's no such thing as too much chocolate. I'd prefer the buttercream... Annie
