Less Than Two Weeks To Go

Hi everyone,

The big movie day is in two weeks as of yesterday. I still have a lot to do, both culinary and otherwise, but mainly not until the day before.

I'll probably make my Mandarin Orange Cake first, since the longer it sets, the better it tastes. Oh, and if anyone makes the cake, here's a little tip for the frosting: drain the oranges first, reserving the juice, and slice them finely. Add to the juice, and then the pudding mix and the thawed Cool Whip (8 oz.).

I've never made the Tortilla Roll Ups/Pinwheels, but what I'm going to do is combine the sour cream, cream cheese, chopped chicken, Cheddar cheese, green onions, and seasonings together and spread them on that way. I wonder if some rotisserie chicken seasoning would taste good in them? I don't want to add anything spicy as a couple of people attending don't like a lot of heat/spice flavors.

I have a more definitive list of movies to take, and I'm thinking of making some kind of garland to hang up or drape over the bookshelf, but I don't want to go overboard lol. Not sure whether to crochet one, make one out of paper or find one at the store.

Sounds like a very sophisticated recipe for Tortilla Roll Ups/Pinwheels, I am sure they will "WOW" youur friends.

I hope you will have good weather. Many people are being hit on and on, non-stop bad weather, include here in NY.

You need to decide what you can afford to have replaces at your expense, and the most important...which of the things is the one you hate the most and cannot live with! Is the bathroom counter top muddy green because of lighting or lack of natural light or was the wrong color ordered? Ask to see the builders invoice. The kitchen cabinets are really big and will be the hardest to fix once you are in and living in the house. This is one that would be hard to let go, maybe you and the cabinet guy can work out a plan. You need to reread the contract or spec sheet, if it does say bull nose and curved corners and not OR, or say choose between the 2, then again, you may want to hold their feet to the fire. I would recommend being very carful in your approach and make sure you have the facts and don't assume anything, because in the end the builder will win, but with a delicate approach and playing the "we" card may get you everything you want!!! "BUT...it might be a smooth transaction. We had an offer on a house we sold 4 hours after it went on MLS. Good contract within 24 hours. A Closing with no problems. " Seems it is either feast or famine, LOL. My Mom has a contract on a house that had three offers on its first day on MLS. The only reason she got there first is that it is in my neighborhood and I saw them physically put the sign up. We called before it showed up on MLS and ours was the first viewing on the first day it was listed. Obviously the other two shoppers were on the ball as well. It was a strong cash offer so hopefully no issues :)

By the way...what do you think your relationship with your parents would be like if they had just shipped you off to live with a relative or boarding school, because your dads new girlfriend didn't really want you around? Or your moms boyfriend thought you were a drag to have around every other week, and talked your mom into just seeing you in the summer while he took off for Europe with friends? Do you REALLY want to be the kind of human beings who would toss their own child aside because their new boyfriend or girlfriend didn't like their child? You sometimes hear about a mom dumping her child on her parents because her new boyfriend does not like the child, and she doesn't want to lose him, so she betrays her own children, and I cannot imagine a parent doing this to their own child...or a dad who has remarried and his new wife does not want him to bring his own child to their house...and so like the wimp that he is...there he sits at McDonalds with his kids for an hour, because his new wife won't let him bring them to their house...and I am amazed that he is such an incredible wimp...and I wonder how in the world he became such a pathetic creature. I wonder why he does not stand up like a man in defense of his own child, and tell her that she will treat his child with respect and kindness, or take a hike...and mean it. That is the kind of man women respect, because we know that if we were a child, that is the kind of man we would want for a father, and the kind of man we want on our side. I heard once that in the state of Florida, that there are over 200,000 children in foster care. Who, and where are the parents who failed these children? How do they look themselves in the mirror, or sleep at night? Yes, kids can be irritating, even to their own parents. They want so much out us, and pester, whine, bicker, tease, cry, etc. etc. etc. So can adults for that matter. Some people are better at coping with children than others. Some have more patience for the nonsence that just seems to come with kids. Others find it irritating, even in their own children. Some people would be happier without children and the constant demands that come with kids. Others thrive on the chaos, and the "life" that children bring to a home. You MUST be REALLY, REALLY honest with yourself, and your fiance' about how you really feel, and that these feelings are not going to go away. You really need to spend the time and read, and re-read the step parent forum. But do not go into this marriage with the intent of cutting your husband off from his children, because that would make you one of those awful people.

I would suggest yes it's too optimistic. They have large thin leaves that transpire a lot of water in sun, and on a hot day they go limp, not attractive to my eye. If they aren't given enough water, the leaves of big-leaf hydrangeas (H. macrophylla) brown around the edges, but they don't like soggy soil. So it's easiest to give them afternoon shade and morning sun which allows them enough sun to bloom but is less stressful a growing situation. Be aware that as far as I can tell, the Cityline Hydrangeas only bloom on the previous year's wood, so if there's a harsh winter or a late frost, they won't bloom at all for that year unless you have protected them. Someone may correct me as to whether they bloom on current year wood, but usually when they do, it is well-advertised, and since I haven't seen any references to reblooming, I've avoided this series since I always lose the previous year's growth.

dcarch, oh yes, Tortilla Pinwheels/Roll Ups are very sophisticated lol. The garlands are finished and today I bought some items for Rocky Horror themed gift/thank you/prop bags. I bought lip shaped whistles, beaded necklaces, star shaped sunglasses, and neon colored twist shape bracelets. I was going to get feather boas but Hobby Lobby and Michaels didn't have them on sale and were way to expensive to buy for 10 people.

I know tomorrow there's supposed to be a bad snowstorm, but then the temps are going to go back up into the 40's, thank goodness. Keeping my fingers crossed that from next Thursday-onward it is milder weather.

Here are some party favors I'm putting in for Thank You/Prop Bags I'm working on for the movie day, along with the garlands I crocheted. I just need to find some feather boas (I'll have to check the dollar stores downtown-I need 10 of them, so I need to find them as cheap as possible).

Wow Brad! You are going all out. Wish I was closer so I could get an invitation. I have great memories of the Rocky Horror Picture Show. I love your crocheted garlands - you are a man of many talents! How many people are you expecting? Good idea to check the dollar store for boas, in our area, some fabric stores sell them quite reasonably. I know this from having a daughter in dance for years and years. Don't get so busy hosting that you forget to take pictures, because I'm really looking forward to them!

Brad, I got them on-line at Oriental Trading, I think, for a costume when Ashley was in Drama, she was the feather duster in Beauty and the Beast and we needed a LOT of feathers. I bought them by the dozen, and we needed that many.

Your party sounds wonderful and I'm betting you won't have much food left, you're going to make a name for yourself with your friends!

Jane, I know there will be at least 7-8 of us coming for sure, but there will be 10 people there maximum.

Annie, I will look again at Oriental Trading to see about the boas. I think I've already made a name for myself among them back in high school lol.

Sad news: my one pitcher broke! I got them on clearance at Wal-Mart. I got them a while ago, so I hope I can still find them. I posted pictures of them when I got them if you all remember. It was the red and orange one. It fell off the top of the freezer and the handle broke off.
