Aluminum foil?
Comments (9)I don't know for sure but I've heard people say that once wrinkled the foil doesn't reflect as much back. Mylar is a reflective coated plastic film. It tents to be very very reflective. They make those light weight emergency blankets out of mylar. I don't know how well mylar works once it has gottent a bit wrinkled but I've been using it. I was too cheap to buy the fancy stuff from the hydroponics store and just got a few of the emergency blankets from Wal-Mart for under a couple dollars each. I actually found that the cheap ones work a little like window tinting so I could drop a curtain of the emergency blanket to help reflect light back in to the plants but I could still see in through the blanket, I thought it was kinda neat. There is a good chance that a white surface will be more reflective than dull aluminum foil. I sould think that if the foil is the really shiny reflective stuff that it might be ok....See MoreNew engineered foor is very dull
Comments (23)I'm sorry to say but you purchased a low(er) gloss floor. Either a matte or a low-gloss satin. At this point, you will have to live with a dull floor because the finish chosen is a low(er) gloss finish. The polish you have is EXACTLY that...a polish. It is a polymer "temporary" finish. Yep. It will "add" a chemical to your floor that will slowly wear away (that's what a polish does). As it wears away, it dulls again. So you must apply it...again...and again...and again (should be every 4-6 months for the rest of the floor's life). And then, because life isn't exciting enough, you will need to REMOVE the polish/polymer that you spent so much time applying to your floor. Yet again you will be working hard to remove the HAZY, WAXY residue you have on your floor. You will chemically and mechanically STRIP the floor. Yes...wax on, wax off! After you spend a few hours STRIPPING your floor, you will the have a dull floor once again. And the polishing cycle continues. You will then have to apply another coat of polish...and a few months later you will have to do it again...and again, etc. If you start down the dark path to "polishing hell", you will forever have to do it. And it is possible you will have removed your warranty on the floor and have prevented the possibility of a refinish in the future. I don't suggest you go that direction, but if 'clean shiny' is a requirement in your home, you are welcome to apply the polish. Just be FULLY AWARE of what you are getting yourself into. It will be a continuous battle with the polish. I would rather be unhappy about the sheen - with very little work to do; rather than be unhappy with the polishing with HUGE amounts of work to do. Good luck. Polishes *sound great...but they create a maintenance nightmare that you will never get out of until you rip out your floor....See MoreBest black paint (+ shine level) in black granite tile bathroom?
Comments (5)Pittsburgh Paints Black Magic 518-7 mixed in their Accent Colors which only comes in Interior Matte Finish. I've used this paint in bathrooms several times. It is matte and it is a good fit for a bathroom. Truly, one of the very best options for black walls. Figuring out something with a black from Ben Moore in Aura would be second choice. ICI, now Azko-Nobel, has one of the truest blackest blacks called Dark Secret. Not sure what they're doing with their uber deep bases theses days - have to check it out at the store. I think it was Texashottie here on the forum (forget the name exactly) that ended up going with Dark Secret in her dining room. Her pix were fab. Be aware that this thing called water whitening can happen with all brands and grades - it's especially noticeable with super dark colors. Due to moisture, white streaks will develop, like the paint is running, and then disappear. They usually go away completely on their own over time. One day it just strikes you that it's gone. It's not surfacant leaching. It's different and again it should go away on it's own....See MoreHow to restore shine to 1 ton of polished black rocks?
Comments (19)This thread cracks me up. Rocks left outside react like rocks left outside- and one can use Pam to fix that. Pam, like the stuff in a can used by some folks. Gotta imagine that can be more price prohibitive than using rock sealer. Cheap olive oil too- and the rain will wash it away. At least those are mostly food based and not so bad for the soil. Petroleum based oil like mineral oil is just yuck, like using other petrol oils like motor oil on your rocks. I get that some folks like the wet and shiny look, but some of the methods suggested to make them shine anew is funny....See Moreann_t
