Annie, I know it's hard to believe that we would leave that beautiful snow in Michigan, but, it's true. We are going to Cathy and Ray's for lunch tomorrow in sunny Florida and we are really excited. Jim, glad you found us pleasant and we will vouch for you also. Cathy said, to come early and "roll up your sleeves" and we will cook together. That will be so much fun! However, Cathy do you want us there around 8:00 a.m. to get everything ready by noon or 1:00 p.m.? LOL Karen

When we see one we bring the feeders in, usually there is nothing there at night, which is when we usually see them...dusk and dawn. This fella decided to come for a treat during the day! He didn't frighten me but he startled my yard worker! I was in my office but heard the door open and "Lynn???? BEAR IN YARD!" This part of PA has drilling going on, in search of natural gas, there are two sites within a couple of miles of us, closer to the reservoir that sits below us. The bears and critters usually live near the reservoir or on the mountain on the other side of the valley. I think the drilling (and all the heavy equipment moving around) is what has made them move to our side. We had one out by the pool heater on Sunday, he was tagged and was wearing a monitor collar. The huge one that was here in spring also had a monitor collar on but I understand he was relocated. Our neighbor said he saw a small one run thru our top field a few weeks ago but we've not seen him. Combining the unused fields and woods on our property and two neighbors there are probably 100 acres of posted land so wildlife has the right of way around here.

Snidely, thanks for sharing that. I didn't know and that's very interesting. Georgysmom, I totally agree. In the over 35 yrs. that I live in the US, race discrimination has been the most puzzled to me. From a foreigner borned point of view, I see it differently. US is a country that is composed of immigrants from many many other countries. There are no real Americans except for the Native Americans which has a small population in this country at the moment. Different people from different countries migrate here to look for a better life. Thus, it made more sense to me that this country would have the least discrimination. After all, everyone must have had learned to live together in order to have a hand in building this country as one of the most powerful and influential country in the world. Ah yes. Then, there's the black Americans which reminded me of a true and sort of funny incident that happened at a friend's working place. At a break room, there was some debating and a bit of rivalry about discrimination between some white and black workers/employees. One of my Asian friend stepped in and firmly told the black workers to stop being bittered and complaining about the past. She further said that if not for slavery brought to the US, they would have still be living in Africa and probably died of hunger or poor health condition. Instead, they should forget about what no longer exist (slavery) and be blessed that they live here where one can enjoy the benefit & freedom this country provides. The rivalry stopped; everyone laughed & agreed.

Keep in mind that I am at the lower end of the foodie chain on this Cooking Forum.

Most of the recipes are from my Grandma Dorthea DiCicco.

Any suggestions for wine?

Great menu.

If my guess is right, I know both Sharon and Clive are lovers of big Italian reds. If my guess is wrong, I'd still go with a good Italian red.

Sharon and Clive? Does this mean they've begun their farther south trip? I hope I see them in the next few weeks in Nashville!

Lucky whoever is dining with you. Food is great, and the company even better! I like Ann's suggestion, I know I'd enjoy that.

The HG suggested some wine he bought recently...OMG! it was in a PLASTIC bottle! I thanked him for the thought but suggested that he keep it for his own consumption.

A nice Valpolicella would go well with that menu, or a Montepulciano d'Abruzzo. Neither are overpowering, but I find them both enjoyable.

That menu sounds great.

And my dh is also an 'hg' and he would look at the sales ads and say, 'oooh, lookie here. Reds are 3/10 at Walgreen's next week. You want me to stop and get 2 bottles?'

It must be Lou because of the wine. I think Clive has also been to Montepulciano, but he is not a plastic wine bottle kind of guy.

Since you said guests, plural, I say Sharon and Clive, since they're in Fl and haven't been to see you this trip that we know of so far. LOL.

The airfare from here to FL is really cheap.

Sharon and Clive are great fun at dinner, and I could not believe how much Clive and I had to say to each other, especially since Sharon and I had so much to say as well, and it was a short evening. Take lots of pictures, and video, if possible!!

I'd love to!!! I could even get to see the Ray's Knife exhibit. If I just had a way to pay for the airfare... I would. I'd even jaunt an over to see cousin Ingrid (they live in your city) and her bunch when you were done with me. Y'all have fun wihtout me, but enough for me. Hugs to all!

Dinner was amazing and the company was even better! Raymond and Cathy are absolutely delightful and lots of fun. Don't think there was one moment of silence the entire evening! Truly it felt like we had known them for years.

Just a great evening but I'll wait for Cathy to post pics before saying more.

........and remember Cathy you promised not to post any embarrassing ones ! LOL
