Choosing crab...

It's not often I can get anyhting but frozen crab legs here. Don't think I've ever seen fresh crab.

So I am stuck with either canned or frozen crab meat when I feel like crab other than crab legs. Problem is, many times once I open or thaw, the meat smells...well..."crabby". Often very strong and the flavor isn't all that great.

How do you choose crab meat? Are there certain brands that are consistently delicious? The last canned crab I bought was just a bunch of mush, no discernable chunks of meat.
