Copy catting twix ice cream bars

Has anyone made copy cat Twix ice cream bars?I am addicted to these!
I have not found a recipe for them-just the candy bars, which I do not care for.

Ohhhhh-the little 'crunchy' pieces-possibly nugget? I think that is what has its claws in me...

Just wondering if this would work..... Take a small (Fun Size?) Twix bar, freeze it, crush it, and serve as a topping, on ice cream. -Grainlady

I cannot have gluten. I have become very allergic, so this is not possible-good idea, though!
I have to come up with a 'copy cat' recipe that I can make...

Well, I learned something in the preview of Jeni's book on Amazon (and ordered the book to thank her): Like the Sicilian gelato, she uses starch to stabilize the frozen yoghurt. I have tapioca starch! I'm going to try that. The book also has the best frozen yoghurt instructions I've seen. They're for a more commercial grade of frozen yoghurt, but might be worth the trouble if I want to make a serious effort for a lot of company. Being able to make ahead and store in the freezer would be a boon. Unlike Jeni, I'm trying to reduce the richness of the dessert, rather than boost it, and her ice cream flavors sound a bit muddy for me, but the depth she goes into on techniques for storing and serving should be very useful.

Thanks for filling in the gap between the two numbers Annie. Like Annie, I eat foods with raw eggs and prefer my steak and even my hamburgers (which are more risky because when you sear a steak with the inside medium rare, the inside was never exposed directly to external contamination but the some inside of your hamburger was on the outside) medium rare. And I eat raw fish in sushi. So far the only two times I've had food poisoning were when I was on business trips. The more recent time, nothing that I had eaten was a typical suspect so my guess is that the restaurant wasn't careful enough about cross contamination or had an employee not washing hands carefully enough. And we use to make quick eggnog (milk with a raw egg and some vanilla in the blender) for my kids one of whom went through a period as a very picky eater so it was one way to get some protein into his diet at the time. I also keep in mind that it the higher the bacterial load the more likely it is to make you sick. A few salmonella cells in a raw egg that has been kept refrigerated will probably be fought off by my immune system. I wouldn't for instance make eggnog, let it sit on the counter for half a day and then drink it. Just in case (IIRC the likelihood that an egg carries salmonella was something like 1 in 20,000) the egg had salmonella, I don't want to let something with raw egg sit at a danger zone temperature for an extended period of time. Ice cream has an advantage there - you know it has been kept cold since it was made. On the other hand, if I had guests over, I would at least let them know that there was raw egg in something and have an alternative because I think they should be able to make that decision for themselves and who knows who has a compromised immune system. And my son and DIL don't want my granddaughter to be fed food with raw eggs. Since children under 5 have salmonella diagnosed at a higher rate than adults (perhaps because it takes less to get them dangerously dehydrated or because they have less immunity?) that seems to be a sensible precaution. I've put in the link for how to cook eggs enough to kill salmonella while still being able to use them in raw egg recipes. This is a compromise for those who need it. I remember reading that someone tested the pasturized egg whites vs regular egg whites and they didn't whip to as much volume. That link also mentions using acidity to kill salmonella. You have to get the PH down to 4.0. If you make mayo and let it sit for a while before you mix it with something else, that may do it. Just tossing some lemon juice along with the egg into your ice cream mix probably wouldn't because the acidity of the lemon juice would be diluted too much by the other stuff. I guess there's just not much I can think of that I want to copy! Improve on, yes, but copy, not really. There's a couple places that make a good burger but I like to take the best from all and put together. For instance, one has a better patty but store bun, another has a good bun but doesn't toast it. And so on. I did enjoy the dry rub ribs at Chili's and decided to try to improve on them, and did. Now I can make good ribs at home quite easily. Wendy's chili is decent enough for when I have a craving for chili but it's a pretty basic chili recipe IMO but not really something I'd want to duplicate. A good basic chili is easy enough to make anyway.

I'm thrilled that my kitchen is an inspiration to someone, and was remiss in not mentioning my two main inspiration kitchens: those of cat_mom (wouldn't have tried for a more contemporary feel had I not fallen in love with the clean lines of her kitchen) and Jodi_in_socal, the original GW trendsetter for the Fire and Ice backsplash. You never mentioned gluten-intolerance in your original post, and my crystal ball is in the shop for repairs so I didn't realize the food challenge.

Did you know that wheat and wheat-based ingredients have been shown to increase addiction to foods? That's why wheat and wheat products are added to things as unlikely as Twizzlers.

Even more addictive are sugar and wheat together. Wonder if that has anything to do with the "addiction" to Twix Ice Cream Bars since they contain both. If you are gluten-intolerant, how can you be eating the bars? Better read the label. The cookie pieces contain wheat flour.

I did not say anything about eating them in the last several years-only the great WANT TO EAT THEM!
It is none of your business why I asked if anyone had a copy cat recipe.

1. You never mentioned gluten intolerance. If I would have know that, I would NEVER have given you my first suggestion because I know there is wheat in TWIX products.

2. By your original post, it would be easier to extrapolate you currently enjoy eating Twix Ice Cream Bars (hence the "addiction" - look up the meaning - it's not something you last ate several years ago) and just want a less expensive way to make them at home than to understand you are gluten-intolerant and want a gluten-free substitute. That takes any potential answers to a different level. Too bad you only contributed that information AFTER the fact, not as a key point.

Now go back and look at your original post and see it from my perspective.

Unfortunately I read your first post as Grainlady did and made the same assumptions. Just not enough info to think anything else. I now have the benefit of the supporting info that is important to go in the right direction. No need to be upset as it was a miscommunication and if you leave out the gluten part then even if somebody has a substitute recipe it may contain gluten so won't help you anyways.

Grainlady is very knowledgeable about what is in different things and have given me some very valuable advice when it comes to making things when dealing with my daughters dairy protein allergy.

I've never had the twix ones, but love the snickers ones.

What do you use as crackers/cookie/wafer substitute for gluten free? Could you use that (assuming you have any) add caramel and chocolate on top of regular ice-cream instead?

I read the post as grainlady did. I just thought you wanted a copy cat recipe without all the added over-processed ingredients. Something easily made at home with good ingredients.
Similar taste and texture, as a treat. But i had nothing to add since i have no idea what candy bar ice cream tastes like.
It really was not clear you wanted wheat-free.
