Looking For A New Grill?

I was.

I'm talking about an electric contact grill to replace my Geo Foreman. I came across one that I was very impressed with. I kept reading web page after web page loving it more but not finding the price. I'm thinking I'll bet it costs $200!!!

$200 grill? You are getting warmer. The WS says $1,499!!!!

For $1,499, George Foreman will come and cook for you. LOL!

I don't think it is an ideal grill. Sexy design yes.

It is designed to give you good looking grill marks. If you average 1800 watts of power over the actual cooking surface, there can be very little cooking power per square inch. So the cooking power is concentrated where it can give you good grill marks. all the meat in between the grill marks are just slowly steam cooked with no grilling flavor.

An uneven heating normal cooking surface has its benefits. Sear on hot spot, keep warm in colder areas.

A film heating technology can have problems, replacement will cost you a $1000.

DC, was hoping you would chime in with the reality of this unit.
Yeah, it was a $hock when I finally saw the price on WS.

You can't go wrong with a Holland. I have the Legacy and would buy no other grill. Just plan your time for cooking and follow the plan. The food is just great.

I just bought the Lybx 24" grill. So far I have used the sear burner exclusively for steaks, burgers, etc. I probably won't use the other burner unless I have a lot of food that has to be cooked at the same time. The sear burner is easy to clean by just turning it to high for a few minutes after grilling. You can then brush off any food remnants from the surface.

the weber will outlast the charbroil, but at twice the price, is it worth it to you? the Charbroil has a larger cooking surface AND higher BTU rate than the Weber. also it has cast iron cooking grates, which to me equal more even heat than the Weber's stainless grate. so, for me, i would go with the Charbroil. not to start anything here, but have you considered charcoal or dual fuel grills? i saw a Char-Griller at my lowes a couple weeks back that was 2 grills in 1. gas on one side and the other grill was charcoal. ifyou plan on cooking anything that requires a long cook time, such as smoking meats, you just cannot beat a charcoal grill. gas cooks quicker, and has less mess to clean, but does not do as well for slow cooking items. i smoke my ribs for 6 hours on my chargriller, and they fall off the bone. trying to cook teh same ribs on a gas grill and they cook in under 2 hours and are TUFF!

from, did you see the marvin infinity with the everwood option? You would have to stain with gel stain to match your woodwork, or go for a full frame replacement. (I never asked about the full frame replacement when I had the guy out here.) I thought they were pretty nice, but only had inside the glass grids or permanent. The Pella guy told me they could actually take a sample of your woodwork and stain to match at the factory. The only thing is that it costs an additional LOT of money, imo, and there's no way I would do it. But if it's that important to you (or the wife!), maybe it would work for you. Not sure if that would apply to the grids too, but, worth asking maybe. They can also deliver the windows in advance if you want to finish them yourself and then come back for the install when they are done. Of course, that wouldn't work for the actual grids between the glass. Thanks for letting me know about the "roundness" of the Renewals. Did you happen to see the Anderson removable grids? We will drive around again this weekend, but any heads up about how they look and/or how they are attached would be great. I totally know what you mean about cost. I'm pretty shocked at the basically 1000+ per window cost. Just amazing, and why we are only doing one side of our house at a time!

Kathy - I read your post and checked out the link. My first thought was "if this woman can spend $1500 on a grill she does not need our advice!" :-)

Mustangs,
Lynx is a well known company in the outdoor bbq world. I don't care about the price. Life is too short if you can afford it and you will use it, get it. You may want to contact a bbq store and see if you can do a better price than WS.
