Chili dogs. Good Brooklyn dogs. Homemade chili, mustard and chopped pickle relish.

The great American burger is a favorite...with baked sweet potato fries. DH does good making the buns...my fresh pickles, homemade mustard and smoked tomatillo salsa, (ketchup)...from the garden.

We do grind out own meat, then freeze. Having this again tonight...i added duck fat when we grinded last week...
Not junk food really, but our brains just think a burger meal is comfort 'junk'....

One of the old recipes that got made over New Years was the original version of Chex Mix. It disappeared so fast DD was required to make another double batch. :-)

I ate my share of fudge and Grandma's Molasses Cookies, and now am back to lots of veggies. I've been so busy it hasn't even seemed like Christmas and our "Christmas dinner" consisted of ham sandwiches and cookies.

Next year I'm going to want oyster po'boys!

SO got a ham for Christmas from his boss, and his son also got a ham and I found 3 lbs of last year's ham in the back of the freezer. This vegetarian is getting hammed out! I have enjoyed a ham and swiss on rye, ham with sauerkraut and potatoes, and ham and bean soup. Next on the docket is some kind of layered bread casserole with ham I think . . . Not sure if that qualifies as junk food, but eating that much meat for me is a LOT. Also lovin' up the eggnog snickerdoodles I made for SO.

Ham is candy. Must be our first holiday without ham...
Love it...the meal, the sandwich the next day. Then stock and soup...

Then, i forgot about the left over blob of DH Forkish dough...
made a pizza-isn roll, a calzone...

pesto, artichoke hearts, some mixed cheese, smoked tomatillo salsa...

Everything looks SO delicious!! I've never had an oyster sandwich, they look very good. And it's quite an accomplishment to make not only the hamburger, but the condiments and buns too! But that calzone and rolling pin really take the cake!!

I love that rolling pin. One thing our families do at holiday time is purposely 're-gift' gifts. Books and home goods we no longer use...or things i've mentioned i love. My MIL gave me that pin a few years ago after admiring it. It is from the 60's when they lived out west, the pacific north west.
Not sure if it was crafted handmade. But both my mom and MIL have always shopped the craft fairs.

Interesting about the oysters. I would never purchase such a thing. A frozen breaded product. But we were visiting my hometown and HarborHouse seafood is there. (Delaware)
I've brought back a box of frozen soft-shells that are wonderful...but while visiting we always buy fresh seafood.

I expected these to be a cake of breading with a tiny oyster inside. But not at all. BIG plump oysters, light breading that did crisp nice and brown with a hot oyster not at all overcooked (being frozen.). I don't think i"ve ever fried anything. So i just used a deep saucepan...1/2 inch of mixed oils. Coconut, olive and an organic canola. Was not sure what to use but it worked.

After such a good experience ordering the Thanksgiving ducks on-line, i would not hesitate ordering some oysters, soft-shells, crab. (now that a new freezer is being delivered next saturday, woohoo.

I prefer to not shop distance, but now back at work full time, we could use a treat a couple times a year.
