have u ever heard of Maca powder?? good for u?? hype?? worth trying?? just trying to get some info and u seem to know so much about so many different healthy things...
Maca powder kept coming up in raw food recipes, and that's when I first learned about it. After doing my homework on maca root powder, I never used it due to a "laundry list" of side effects.
Yes, it's considered a "superfood" (but so are a LOT of foods) because of its high concentration of nutrients. It's also a stimulant. So do a search on "maca side effects" to get the whole picture. If you are taking ANY kind of medication, and even OTC supplements, I would certainly check with a pharmacists or physician first before taking maca root powder for any possible drug/maca interactions.
Wish I had seen Grainlady's reply before I ordered it a few years ago. I did research it and couldn't find much about side effects at that time. After taking it I did not have any gastro side effects, but I felt like I'd had a caffeine overdose. Racing heart, feeling wired, etc. I took it once more because I wasn't entirely sure it was caused by the Maca, same thing happened. Very annoying because it was not inexpensive.
I am so glad to see your post, Grainlady, about the side effects of such things as the maca powder. I am sometimes torn between what is prescribed and what is more or less natural. My doctor is one of those who is very skeptical. On the other hand, when I was trying to build up my hemoglobin and taking alfalfa, that doctor said whatever I was doing was right and to keep it up. It is always good to note the side effects. And, Grainlady, whenever I see your name, I will see you dancing around the kitchen to your heavy metal and rock music. I agree wholeheartedly, good music makes anything more bearable. I do that, arthritis and all. Barb
