Aargh! My baking stone broke!

My very carefully used stone was broken today when I lifted it from the oven. I'd last used it to make one of the no knead breads.

It was a heavy duty stone that I'd had for several years, and I used it fairly often. When not in use, I kept it on the counter. Occasionally I washed it to remove crusted on dough, but I let it dry for several days before I used it again.

Can you recommend a good quality site to order a new stone from? And why did it break? Should I have never washed it?

I hate replacing things that I feel should last forever if properly cared for.
