I flew from PA down to our house in FL last week to hunker down for the storms and have been doing minimal beach house cooking.

The forecasts are very scary! Having lived in FL all my life I wouldn't know how to react or function. I promise not to complain about the heat this summer.

They just announced that if you are out on the streets after 11:00 pm, you will be arrested.

I hope you and everyone else in the areas expecting this horrible storm are prepared, stay warm and stay safe. After the blizzard of '78, which wasn't supposed to be as bad as this one, I've learned to take all the precautions necessary and hope everyone else can.

I had a good laugh at the forecasts. I'm from Colorado and have been through a lot of blizzards. Not fun, but not the end of the world. Just part of life.

I'm from Colorado, but am in NYC on a trip right now, and I have to say this is much worse than what we have in Colorado. Yes, we do get snow storms, but storms of this magnitude are very infrequent (it has been years since we have had a storm like this in a populated area of Colorado). And, we don't have to deal with the same types of issues like mass transit shutting down. This is not a typical snowstorm, it is the snow plus high, sustained winds that has everyone so concerned.

NYC / western LI already seems to be downgraded from 2-3 feet to 1-2... Yawwwwn. I thought this one would be the real deal. Who knows, maybe it still will be but at this moment it doesn't sound like it anymore.

The other problem is that there just is no place within a large city to put all that snow, it has to be hauled in trucks somewhere, it can't just stay piled on the sidewalk. And the likelihood that it'll melt before April is pretty slim.

So, stay safe, everyone and warm, and try not to drive if you can help it. Even though we're very accustomed to getting snow and dealing with it, the blowing and zero visibility that dlynn mentioned causes all kinds of problems, like the 193 car pile up we had last week here in Michigan, closed the interstate for two days. It was kind of fun, though, one of the vehicles was hauling fireworks and they all went up, I saw a you-tube video of the 1-96 crash/pile up and fireworks were just a-popping!

Anyway, a good snow always seems to be a great time to bake bread, especially if you have a wood fired oven!

Yep - fresh bread, soup and slivers of my random selection of portugese cheeses... I cut up the cheeses last night to bring some to my cat watching neighbor and my mom. One seems to be portugese havarti. Lol.

My mom got a cod from the huge room of much cod.

Stay warm and dry. Take snow removal breaks. Drifting snow is a pain to deal with though lovely.

We laugh a lot, but not at storms. Especially the NEast. I've been through too many over the years. As do others all over the country, and the world. Natural and un-natural disasters.

This one was kind to us, not so much coastal and north. No loss of power for us and just a few inches....on top of a foot we had last Saturday. It did take me 3 hours to get home last night but shutting down the city in the evening hours was a good call. Cars get stuck and prevent the plows to get through. Emergency workers cannot do their jobs efficiently. What a mess years past.

Made a lovely soup last night, cornbread for breakfast, plowing snow. Prepping bone-in thighs for a favorite braising recipe, now in a marinade, then more plowing. Bake some bread rising, plow some more. (actually 'shoveling' but we feel like 'plows'). : )
