Christmas Cookies with Bud and Makayla, 2007

Yes, we had the annual Christmas cookie bake. I made the sugar cookies and Bud and Makayla came to help decorate. Amanda frosted while the kids decorated:

Bud really liked the colored sugar. He sprinkled and sprinkled and sprinkled:

However, I neglected to tell him that he was supposed to sprinkle ALL the cookies, not just one, LOL:

Makayla took a break from sprinkling to eat some frosting.

Melly sent some chocolate sprinkles from the Netherlands, they were very cool. Some were chocolate, some white, some chocolate and green, some chocolate and orange. The kids had a ball....

We also made ice cream to go into the new ice cream freezer the girls got me. Bud did what he does best, eat the stuff while his sister stirred.

We made some raspberry bars and some chocolate/peppermint bars:

We made some of Ann T's Cream Cheese Brandied Cherry Balls, Amanda's favorite, and Ann T's maple cream fudge. I beat the fudge in the KitchenAid mixer and it worked like a charm!

I kept a dozen of each type and sent the rest home with Amanda because Makayla says that Santa LOVES cookies. Plus, it saves me the calories, LOL.

And so, another year is baked into oblivion.....

I love your annual cookie bake, Annie! The grandkids are getting so big! Now that's what I'd call a sugar cookie!

Good grief, it's 7:00 A.M. and I can't believe I could be craving fudge so early:-) Truthfully, I am a real sucker for iced sugar cookies. And I'd even eat the one Bud decorated, IF I could find it under all that sugar! It looks like a fun, sweet time was had by all the bakers and the decorators. Thank you so much for sharing Annie!!

OH yeah! Zhu Zhu Pets - we have 2 of them that live here (they came home to this house when they were on sale at Target). They were a BIG HIT 2 weeks ago when some little kiddles came to visit :) Only one little kid cried when he couldn't take his home)and his mom said (privately to me) that one would be under his tree at their house on Christmas Day and so I had to let him suffer. Thanks all for some truly great ideas. I think sometimes its easy not to see the forest for the trees and this little one is flying here from the 22nd through the 26th and I want to make it special, cause she won't be with her mommy. But she will be with her daddy who adores her and so of course do her grandparents! We'll all do the best we can and I sooooooooo appreciate the ideas. Books are on the agenda and so is baking (although that will be a struggle for me LOLOL). I already own a low temp glue gun so that should work for both her and me! No jeans, Cathy! Thanks for the advice! Thanks all - I couldn't reply and say thanks sooner (I'm sorry to say) because we went to visit the other grands down in Raleigh and had no internet access (surprise to us).

I hope you have a wonderful time baking tomorrow rhome! Double ovens.. swooonn.. lol. Boy am I a slacker compared to ya'll. For the New Orleans boxes I made regular chocolate chip, peanut butter with colored sugar [as per tradition] and fudge. The kids only like certain stuff and the fudge is Christys family tradition so she has to send her sister and mother some. I sent them a pecan pie too. I've also made meltaways, world peace, milk choc choc chip, shortbread, more fudge and caramels for Christys fellow employees. The caramels sure did turn out great this year. I forgot to put in the vanilla. lol. I think I like them better. You can really taste the butter. The execs got pecan pies. I have dough in the fridge for the rest of the milk choc chips and I took some of that dough and instead of chips I added bunch of old fashioned oats to it for me. I am weird in that I don't like cookies to sit around very long. I'd rather have them fresh, so I tend to make doughs and just bake off a pan or two at a time. So, as it gets closer to Christmas I'll be still making our ricotta cookies, some rugeleah, sand tarts, and for the Christmas dessert I'll make a pecan pie and chocolate pie. For Christy's stocking I'm making Ann's crisp truffles and some chocolate covered raisins. So, let me make a list.. hmm.. Standard chocolate chip Peanut butter World Peace Meltaways Rugeleah Milk chocolate chocolate chip Oatmeal Shortbread Sand tarts Ricotta cookies Sugar Cookie cutouts [maybe, I like to make the shortbread into cutouts, so that might do for this year] Fudge Caramels Crisp truffles Chocolate covered raisins [she doesn't like nuts] Pecan Pie Chocolate Pie Yup, I'm a slacker ;(

Ann T, it wouldn't do her any good to get any "ideas", the doctor took care of that after Bud. Somehow, he was enough, LOL. kathy, I think it would be be a ball to get a bunch of the forum "kids" together. Except they'd probably spend all their time talking about how weird all us grownups are. sorry LindaC, not even a taste. She was 17 days old in that picture and her mother is still pretty picky about what she eats, LOL, if you can imagine. Sol, next year she gets all the cookies and fudge she wants. Pam, if sugar, cookies, frosting, sprinkles and candy are involved, i don't think Bruvver will ever get so cool that he won't get involved! RR, I love my life too. It's busy and crazy and full and sometimes I'm tired, but I love it all. Even that snow out the kitchen window. Tell Maggie to eat an extra cookie for me, but don't tell her that I let Makayla have COFFEE in that Christmas mug by her elbow. Well, about a cup of milk with lots of sugar and a little bit of coffee, but still, it was coffee, and so very "grown up". Bud just wanted milk with his cookies, he's such a brother! Those cookies were SUPPOSED to be checkerboards, LOL, but they were a little.....um......misshapen. (grin) Cathy, we let Makayla pass out presents at the family Christmas party too, she even got to wear my elf hat that plays "We are Santa's Elves". The kids got $50 worth of fun out of that $5 hat! Pat, I like peanut butter on Ritz crackers, I'm not so sure about adding chocolate, I'll have to try that. What great pictures! I remember decorating sugar cookies when I was little--how wonderful that Bud and Makayla will also have happy cookie memories. They are getting so big! Is it my imagination, or is Makayla starting to look just like her mother?

Oh yes, Amanda, Makayla does look just like her mother. She acts like Aunt Ashley, though, so I feel sorry for her parents, LOL.

Just think, before you know it Amon will be decorating cookies with you, picking out the "best" ones for Santa...

I look forward to these pics of your GC every year. I really want to start this tradition with my Grandchild(ren). Maggie was more interested this year in eating the sprinkles than decorating the cookies. Sigh, we'll try again next year.

That looks like it was a lot of fun - well maybe not the cleaning up part... I'm glad they liked the sprinkles. The best part about the dutch sprinkles is that they taste good, too. My little one has been sprinkling/pouring the ones that look like flakes in her hot cocoa. We only made chocolate chip cookies for Santa this year. It is not so easy to bake cookies in my barbie dream house oven. One day I should post of a picture of it for you. I can't complain to much, though. Life is good!

melly, you live in a Barbie Dream House? LOL I'm telling Makayla that, she'll be so jealous.

You are right about the sprinkles tasting good, Amanda was eating them right out of the box.

The kids really liked the different colored ones in the little boxes and they were eating them like candy. I still have some left, though, Makayla is going to have a "sleep over" with me in the next couple of weeks and we're going to put some on waffles.

Thanks again for the treat, it made our cookie baking so much fun. I'll have to tell Makayla and Bud they can put them in hot chocolate too!

Love your pictures of your baking with Bud and Makayla. They are both just precious. I love Bud's decorating techniques (akin to mine) and the fact that his truck isn't too far out of the picture either. Did it get decorated too?

Your bars look great. Are those 2 recipes on the forum?
