SEATTLE!

Views from the Space Needle:

Me:

After sightseeing around the Needle and having some hot beverages in the lounge up there, we stopped downstairs in the gift shop and I went to the Ladies room. When I came out, I almost bumped into Dale Chihuly! A woman nabbed him for a picture but I was too shy. Now I'm kicking myself!

The next day we went to Mukilteo to catch a ferry to Whidbey Island:

We loved Whidbey:

We had a delicious homemade from scratch meal at the Knead and Feed with this view:

Afterwards, we waited for the local Christmas Parade. It was very small-town and we loved it:

A very nice visit.

What a wonderful trip. Seattle is definitely on my list of places to see. Doesn't Terri PacNW live on Whidbey Island? Maybe she was in the parade! I don't think she has a basset hound, though.

Thanks for sharing the great photos, Gina. By the way, your hair is so long! I like it.

Hi Folks - appreciate the feedback. Couple notes: LiveWire, time will tell but I disagree on the playroom. We have an 18th month old and a 21 day old, and hope to have several more. That could mean we have toddlers for the next 5-6 years. Having a designated safe area within view of heavily used living areas seems pretty logical. Showplace - two things: 1) How about a full height trash by the clean-up sink (window) and a 10" high wastebasket in a 12" drawer on the prep island? Someone on another forum posted this idea, and it seems to make sense since a prep wastebasket would be for trimmings and other organic stuff that needs to go out frequently... 2) I think I get what you're talking about with the pantry idea, but do you happen to have a link you might point me to? Joanie: good points. We actually have a bonus room upstairs that will serve as the playroom when the kids get a bit older. At some point the playroom on the first floor will become an office. Til then we expect that most of the people we'll have over for dinner will also have kids of similar ages to ours, so our hope is that we can let the kids do their thing in the playroom or mingle in and out of the dining room/playroom while the parents enjoy dinner and some wine... Think that's realistic? KathyNY - to the right of the diagonal DW is our trash in this design. Perhaps we swap the placement of those two so it goes DW, sink, trash, DW. That would create a little more standing room b/t sink and DW....??? Sounds like we have some thinking/work to do, so I welcome additional comments!

WOW what great pictures!! Looks like everyone had a great time! AND...I'm really amazed that Sharon's husband Ernie looks so good! I remember her posting about him being diagnosed with cancer (not long after MY husband died) and my heart just broke for him! He looks wonderful!!!

I set the heat to 60 degrees so I think I'm ok unless the power goes out. It would take quite awhile of no power and cold weather to freeze the toilets to the point of breaking them, wouldn't it? Hmmm, drain traps? No, I'm not draining the heater. My builder said I any time I kill the well pump I should also cut power to the water heater otherwise I risk burning out the heating element. Does that make sense? Thanks so much for your input!

Okay this answers my question on conversations..
I love Knead and Feed..and I've bought a fair amount of goodies in the kitchen shop for swap gifts!
Yes Pam..I live about 8 miles from Coupeville..that is where Sue (mntnester) and I met when she and her hubby and daughter and partner came site seeing.
I recognized that wharf shot immediately!

Oh, this thread and the one in Conversations bring back wonderful memories of our trip to Seattle and Whidbey Island. Terri, wasn't the Mad Crab where we got together? I didn't remember the name of the restaurant, but it sure looks like the same place. I'll have to save Gina's photo of it. Gina, it looks like your trip was as fabulous as ours was (and we had rain the entire week, so I think you had better weather).

p.s. Terri, thanks again for the homemade jam and cookies! I'm savoring that memory, too!

I have friends who live on Whidbey Island. They moved there a few years back when living in Napa was making them claustrophobic. She is an artist, he is an attorney. They love it there.

What a great trip! I have wanted to go visit, I hope I will someday.

Okay but being that I'm VERY local..I'm bias..LOL My dad's family has been here since the late 1800's.

Oh, I'm so envious! I've had Seattle and environs on my "to see" list for a couple of years. Definitely somewhere I want to visit! My last trip was when I was 13! Maybe in the spring if I can get a favorable airfare.

I LOL when I saw the Bassett Hound club. I had a Bassett for 17 years.
