| Yesterday was my third Saturday selling my breads and rolls at a local farmers' market in the small town of Gibsonville. I had some repeat customers from last week, two customers who had promised last week to buy from me this week, special order inquiries, and once again, I just about sold out - and before 11:00 a.m.! Each week I have increased my offerings and increased the total dollar amount sold!
Here is my "stand" almost all sold out with a woodworker's wares next to mine; the railroad tracks are just yards behind the market:
These prints were being sold by a sweet young teen:
This photo shows more of the vendors and the casual nature of this market; the pink area just beyond the vendors are roses surrounding a fountain:
Here is the band shell/stage where musical performances are often held in the summer on Saturday evenings. This area has electrical outlets also; the young teen and her parents plan to sell Brunswick Stew in October to fund her trip to a youth leadership seminar. They will offer samples from a crock pot and sell quarts of the stew kept cold in coolers.

Yippee, glad this is working out for you! Now I want a picture of you behind your table, and some shots of your products. Aren't I demanding, LOL. Besides, you can always use that kind of a photo for future marketing bwahaha

Thanks for your encouragement! Yesterday I sold the following: Harvest Grain loaves 100% Whole Wheat loaves Amish Wheat loaves Old Fashioned Buttermilk Rolls Next week I think I will try Honey Wheat rolls, more Harvest Grain and 100% Whole Wheat, Amish Wheat, and perhaps Angel Biscuits -- a Southern recipe that people have grown up with. I may make some Best Ever Cranberry Muffins as I have a bag of cranberries in the freezer. And I started some potato flake "sourdough" starter this morning since I had 2 people ask about sourdough bread. The grain and whole wheat loaves seem to sell better than white bread, but the bags of small dinner rolls sell no matter if they are white or wheat. I hope I can manage the sourdough time wise and that my loaves are taller than another vendor's!

Teresa, I'm so glad this is working out and that it seems to be a fun adventure! If I were closer to you I'd stock my freezer for sure. It's nice to hear about the young girl, and the support she is getting from her mother, to fund her trip to youth leadership seminar. I wish you all luck in your ventures.

Teresa, Love to see where you are selling and the casual community atmosphere. The park is very pleasant and the scent of roses if you are down wind would be heavenly. Yea!! So glad your bakery business is growing. Taking orders for the next week is a great idea, and those people should just keep on ordering after the farmers market is over. Judy

Congratulations on your growing business. Repeat customers is a wonderful sign of quality. How long will your market continue? I enjoy this kind of market. There is one at Grey Forest here that reminds me alot of your market. Keep us posted! Brenda

The market schedule this year was Saturdays from May 2 to Nov. 14 -- which is longer than many other markets in the area that usually close in Oct.! If asked, I want to offer bread delivery once a week after the market season to regular customers that order in advance. I think I need to ask that their order be at least 2 loaves of the same bread recipe or a full recipe of rolls -- the extra can be easily frozen -- in order to have delivery. What do y'all think?

Teresa, I'm so happy about your success and that you are sharing it with us. I am just beginning to think about baking bread again and I often think about how much fun I had and how much I learned with you at Paney Camp. Your idea to offer bread delivery after the market closes is a good one. You need a sign out soon so people can start thinking about it. Having a just before Thanksgiving delivery would be great if you can do it. I think many people would love to have your baked goods on their holiday table - I know I would. Lee

Oh yes, I think bread delivery is a good idea too, as long as you can get those orders in advance. People might order for the holidays, but they might find themselves "hooked" on good bread with soup or chili, when it gets a bit cooler, or maybe they'll just decide they like real bread, no matter when. Your little market looks a lot like our local farmer's markets, a bit of everything. They are delightful places to spend a Saturday morning. Annie

I would love to have a market like that here! I'd be there to buy your bread for sure. Now you have to make friends with the person with the canopy so you can get out of the sun! Lots of luck to you! |
