Cafe Hopping Down in the Town (Pics)

Well I wasn't really eating and drinking at every one but had a myriad of things to do Tuesday downtown which involved passing through the central plaza. What a great way to destress because I was really up tight about getting all my errands done on time, but when I walked through this peaceful place I felt myself unwinding. The tall palms and Indian rubber trees gave beautiful shade and I felt myself relaxing as I saw people lounging on benches, sipping coffee under parasols and heard children laughing as they chased pigeons.

The air was fresh and cool although a warm day was predicted.

Restaurants were setting up their tables for the midday dinner and adding finishing touches to the outdoor blackboard menus. I sometimes forget how pleasant it is to take a morning stroll around this lovely plaza. And I managed to finish my errands in record time.

With newspaper kiosks bordering the square, it's a custom to buy the day's paper then take a coffee with a sweet bun

at one of the many tables while reading the news.

Thanks Sharon. By the way, are there any Americans who live in your town?

Reminds me, we should have another thread about posting pictures from people's local walks, shopping, daily activities etc. That was fun last time. I'll post it.

Gina as far as I know there aren't many American living here on a permanent basis. Problem is the residence permits for non-Spanish people. If one is not a European national whose country is a member of the European Union, it's difficult to get a fulltime residence permit. If one has a work permit or is married to a European then a residence is easier to acquire. Otherwise non Europeans are allowed to stay in the country for only 6 months at a time.

I love the idea of posting pictures of our local scenery and daily activities! Of course I will contribute and will try to add some travel pics of airport, hotel, food along the way. Good idea.

sheesh, does that mean I have to admit that I nearly filled the back of the trailblazer??? Got: Jap maple, flowering maple, lemon verbena, lemon grass, silver thyme, star jasmine, variegated salvia and a really neat red/white salvia, heliotrope, pink chaos coleus, and some other stuff I can't think of now. It is a world of mis-information and I think you certainly have a right to be upset. Heck, I'm upset and I haven't even bought the stove yet. As I asked/stated in an earlier post, I planned on installing the electrical receptacle, per the diagram, to the left of the centerline in that 9" clearance area they show. Do you think that square box thingy on the bottom left of the stove is going to interfere with it if I install it in that area (is the plug a flat-type plug or one that takes up a lot of room when plugged in)? I already have a gas stove, so the pipe is where it was installed 20 years ago. I'll deal with moving it if I have to when the time comes. But I need to get the 120V installed and don't want to do it twice. I'm sorry to be asking you for answers in "your time of pain", but I'm desperate to get correct answers to my questions. Having the benefit of actually being able to look at the real estate at the back of the range, where would you suggest others (meaning me) install the gas and 120. I know what you mean about nobody taking responsibility for anything anymore. Thanks in advance.

I'm very sorry I did not answer the questions from the last few years... I've been out of reno mode for a while :) It's probably too late, but here are the replies: @walkin_yesindeed - the vanity finish has held up just fine. However, it's not the original paint. We sanded and re-painted with new Ben Moore bathroom paint. No issues with dampness (we do run the fan for every shower, though.) @kirkhall - I have NOT been happy with the touted un-stainable-ness of the epoxy grout on the floor. I mean, it's better than regular grout, but it didn't stay white no matter how much I cleaned it. It looks fine, since the tile is multi-toned, but it's definitely not still white. The shower grout, however, has held up extremely well. @SparklingWater - I don't recall the demo being terribly difficult, but that may be because I knew what to expect from other parts of the house. It was tile over a dense cement. @MrsD - I think the grout color is standard white. @MayaEoff - Our tub is the standard 30" size.

We need to go backwards! I talked to my friend and the inspector deemed the house 'un-inhabited' by the bugs, as it was old damamge, but the lady was insisting on having it unnecesssarily treated anyway. She(friend) was told by her agent it's normally the obligation of the buyer to have the treatment, and told her it's 'your call'. She told the agent it's either the furniture OR the treatment, but not both. Apparently the lady didn't take too kindly to that, and recinded her offer. In hindsight, I told her they should have split the cost of the treatment, and let her have the dang furniture. My friend thinks it was the best thing to happen, even though the house is still on the market. The lady accused them of removing/exchanging a light fixture, and taking out a newer dryer and bringing in an older one. She brought her brother, who happpens to be a lawyer with a 'shady' reputation, along every time, and friend thought he was the one trying to force various issues, and get something for nothing. She IS eager to sell, and may have to 'lose' the agent so she can lower the price. Yes, she needs to bank $185K, or take on a small mortgage with the new house~those are her options. ;o) patty_cakes

what a wonderful stroll you had, it's lovely ; good idea Gina about the pic thread, I've been oblivious to my new area I live in and it's nice enough to photograph then share.

It's just as beautiful as always there, Sharon, I love to see a piece of your world, so different than the one I'm used to.

Daily pictures, huh? So you want that one of me chasing the new chickens around, trying to get them to go outside in their new pen. They don't like it outside, they're....well....chicken. LOL

Sharon -- so lovely. What a nice day to start a day, sitting in a cafe with the newspaper, coffee and sweet bun.

I have been thinking about posting pictures from my commute home. I drive past some really lovely spots with beautiful old homes, sheep, goats and horses in fields and also a field of black angus cattle. What's unusual about this is that it's the suburbs, not the country.

Slice of life? I have some interesting pictures from my colonoscopy this morning, but I think you don't want to see those. FYI, I am completely healthy.
