Hi, I am diverting myself from the Exchanges posts; waiting for my partner to get home so I thought I'd show you parts of Solomon's party and a few of the 37 adults and 14 kids that were there.

Renee, that boy has gotten so big! He's still handsome as ever and Melissa is also growing right up.

I'll bet there was a cacophony of sound in your house.

Karen, Thank you for helping me look! I'm looking it up right now, and... argh! It is so close! 'Elizabeth Francis Woodall' has black tips on the stamens while mine seem a brownish/orange and a EFW has a very light yellow edging to the ruffles. The rest of the coloring is dead on. Going to check out 'Broadway Pink Slippers' and... that is much pinker than mine. Thank you for the name of that daylily nursery. I'll keep looking through their dl's. What a great assortment! Alana, I love baby shops. When Gymboree opened here I was having a blast picking up little outfits for my daughter and niece. Love that girly stuff. I hope things go quickly for you in Dayhoit. Never heard of it either. Thanks be for Google, eh? It has helped me get in and out of places that were too small for most gas station maps. Hurry home and keep an eye on these thieves. Hey Vic! We have rentals here in Cleveland and Lakewood. One is our old house that we used to live in. The guys are usually late with the check and it takes a phone call or two. Once they switched to new cell phones and I did have to drive over there. Nothing like me showing up with a van full of kids to make them want to get that check there a little quicker. Want me to drive to Michigan. Shouldn't be more than a couple hours. I'll threaten them with having to babysit. That might do it. I'm sorry about what happened with Jamie's job. Ed's customers are pretty slow paying right now. I told him he better start getting some money up front. It drives me crazy when he floats the cost of materials and they take forever to pay him at the end of the job. He is finally starting to listen to me about it. Deb, I think no one wants the game to end. They all know it's over when your box gets grabbed. LOL! Does the garage sale start tomorrow? Ancestor sleuths; I need some advice, help

Ancestry just had a special. Go ahead and join when you are up to it but cancel as soon as your 14th day rolls around. In the meantime, after you've made a free account somewhere is the option to sign up for the free newsletter and I think it's a different box to check for specials. Read everything on the subscribe page so you don't miss it. They don't send a lot of mail and the newsletter is very worthwhile. There will probably be a 6 month world special for $99. If you don't need access to anything outside of the U.S. I would just go with a discovery subscription. I caution you about the ancestors who have been traced back to 1400. You will HAVE to do your own detective work to be sure you have the right people. You always start with yourself and work backwards. Finding one family with joe as the husband and mary as the wife and they have a boy jim and a girl sally is not going to be good enough. You have no idea how many people have those names, even in the same place. And the farther back you go, the harder it is because the census didn't require the name of everyone in the household until 1850. Before that it was head of household and hash marks in age and sex columns. It's not as easy as it looks on TV. I do want you to keep your enthusiasm but I don't want you to think this will be solved in a year or two. My cousins have elected me chief researcher because I'm more careful than they are. They run things by me that they've found for me to fact check. I'm trying not to put my arm out of joint patting myself on the back but I want you to go into this knowing it's going to be a lot of fun work! Get yourself some three ring binders at the Salvation Army or Goodwill. Next time Staples has a case of paper on sale, buy it. Get some cheap ink from Amazon.com. Print everything that you think fits most of the parameters of your search. It's a lot easier to print it now than find it again later. Citations. If you haven't heard it yet, you will. I didn't do it when I started because I was "only" going to look up my grandmother on my dad's side. Well, let me give you the best piece of advice I can think of. When you save something, make sure you write on it where you found it and everything else so that if you were to look for it the next month you would be able to pull that sheet out and know exactly where you found that information. After I got serious I had to go back and do it all over again. Not fun! Second thing, and you could do this now, subscribe to some genealogy blogs. There are so many you will find a few you like. You probably won't understand what they're talking about until you do some research yourself but in a short while you will. And they know where the other resources are. Ancestry has a youtube channel full of tutorials. Go there and watch a few. Have your eyes glazed over? It happens to everyone I talk to!!

This thread makes me hungry! I didn't get to make roast, rice and gravy on Thursday (like I said earlier) so I'm making it for tonight. It's in the oven right now, just the way my mom always did it. Dusted with cajun seasoning and flour. Topped with garlic, onions, and bell pepper. It makes it's own thin, cajun style gravy to put over plain white rice. We had this meal practically every Sunday while I was growing up. It was one of the few meals I actually looked forward to, lol. Mom hated to cook. We had a ton of peppers to pick a couple weeks ago. I made vats of green and red salsa, and I refrigerator pickled a condiment of chopped peppers, onions, and garlic. That's the perfect thing for rice and gravy. Can't wait. We'll have left over cauliflouwer (steamed with a little butter) and probably frozen green beans to go along with it.

What a sweetheart and he really seems to be enjoying the party. They do grow up fast, don't they? I bet it seems like yesterday that they were bringing him home.

Lovely family photos Renee and it looks like a memorable first birthday party.
Little Solomon has sure grown hasn't he. What a dear little boy.
Great idea to have them playing musical instruments. I can imagine how it all sounded.

He is an absolutely adorable little guy! And what a wonderful age! We had a birthday party on Saturday for my little Arianna who turns 1 the end of the month (it was the only time we could all get together)She is all the more precious to me, because she is definitely my last grandchild. None of my kids can have any more. And all of mine are girls!

It was a lot of fun and darn it all, I haven't seen a photo of me either and there were about 5 people taking pictures. I suppose it is because I usually have a camera in my hands for events.

The twin's have their 2nd birthday in August. I'll hand the camera to someone else so I get in a photo.

Renee, You have a lovely family! I sure hope your children live close to you for I don't think I'd be able to stay away from the grandchildren. Beautiful!

They are spread out but no one is more than a 4-hour drive; that's Arthur's youngest daughter from his first marriage. They live outside Baltimore. She is Mother of the eldest two, Jason, 13 and and Daniel, 11.

Her sister (the middle of the three)lives in NJ, outside Cherry Hill, just under 2 hours if not during peak hours. Samantha (8) and Gabrielle (3.5) are her daughters.

DS, the eldest, is father to the twins, Melissa and Jade (almost 2) who live 1 hour and 5 minutes from either of my homes.

Our daughter together, is the mother of Solomon and they live in NYC about 10 minutes away. I'm there all the time.

Location, location, location. I'm there a few times a week.

Who told the others to move?

Bubbe (to Samanatha, Gaby, and the twins)
Nana (to Jason & Daniel)
Grandma (to Solomon)

What a beautiful family. Solomon is a little cutie. Love the color of Melissa's hair! I am glad that I am not the only one that has different names from the grandkids. My son's boys all call me Gram and Howard's daughter's kids all call me Mimi, as Dylan couldn't say Grandma , came out as Mimi so that is what I have been for 10 years! The little 17 month old, Trevor, that I sit for calls me Mimi, too. He is just like another grandchild to us.

Melissa is a real red-head like her mom. Jade, her twin is darker. They are fraternal and not one bit alike. Like that from minute 4 when I first met them. I am having internet problems so I can't upload right now but I will post photos of both for you to see.

I have a hard time remembering what to call myself when all the kids are around. It's "give Bubbe, I mean Nana, a hand. Come to Grandma, I mean Bubbe." Oy! The job description is Grandma but the names are confusing.

Renee, thanks for sharing the photos, they are wonderful. My favorite is the last one of Solomon and his mother. That is a wonderful, artistic photo that seems to capture both of them. I also love the family portrait with Solomon's little tummy.
