Summer Hair Cuts .... After shots....

Here they are. Although I haven't taken any of Abby yet. She isn't cooperating.

. He thinks he is a dog and he acts like one. Always has. He is very smart. Can't you just see the intelligence in his eyes?

He might always have a scowl on his face but he really is just big teddy bear.

Stetson is moving very slow these days with arthritis. He is losing his hearing and is going blind. But he is still happy and still

. I gave him the bone off the Prime Rib we had for dinner and he took it right outside and tucked right in. But I do worry about him.

Your animals are beautiful and I just love the look on Monty's face. He looks unhappy with his summer coat but I bet he isn't really. Stetson has such georgous coloring and I hope you have many more years with him.

I too have been searching for years for a live Piper Methysticum. In 1996/97, Gnostic Garden were selling them. Firstly, there is no law against the live plant. The kava ban was purely for internal consumption - products design to be ingested, such as dried root, kava extracts etc. Essentially, kava extracts could be sold for cosmetic purposes and stated that they are not for internal consumption. Live plants would have absolutely no restriction. However, there is a law in Hawaii that prohibits any live kava plant being exported. Fiji seem to be pretty protective of their living heritage too. I have made enquiries to several US based nurseries for them the get a phytosanitary certifcate and send a live plant. Unfortunately there was no uptake for this. Today, I have found this place: http://www.ktbotanicals.com/piper-methysticum-kava-kava-live-plant-p-12697.html They say they'll send out plants anywhere, but if it gets stopped at customs, then that's that! I too have thought of a holiday in Fiji and smuggling some live plants back, but that's an expensive and risky pursuit. I'm happy to pay money for the phytosanitary certificate to get one of these ultra-rare Europe-based plants... They do have some live plants in Kew Garden you could always try and lift. And what's all the fuss about zones? Surely this would be a house plant and tended to in a very specific way? Afterall, after going through all the trouble getting one, you wouldn't want it to die?! Just make sure the thing's well insulated before it makes its journey in the summer months - it'll probably be put in the hold of an aircraft which can get pretty cool... I've been doing the "Flobbie" for a couple of yeas but a couple of weeks ago when checking out of Walmart I spotted a lady with the haircut I really liked and asked her if I could borrow her for a few minutes to show the hair dresser in the Beauty Salon. So I dragged her there and asked if aanyone there could cut my hair like hers and one gal Jill, said she could. I thanked the lady (who had a good story to tell when she got home) and Jill commenced to cut, wash, set and comb mine out. It was great. I think I told this story here sometime in the past week or so. I've been back once and plan to go the end of this week. It is nice to find a gal who does what you want her to do!!

btw.. the only way to create problems with a L ... is to give it a haircut at height ... and the reason is.. with no insult to the root mass ... when you cut to 3 inches or so.. it will grow 3 feet next year from the cut .. but if you make that cut at say.. 3 feet .. and it grow s the new shoots at said 3 feet.. and get to 6 feet next year ... the second year.. to 9 feet ... and the thing collapses ... perhaps a bit of an exaggeration ... but i hope you get the point ... no haircuts.. per your title .. ken

Well ... I've just had another damn haircut! Went back to the guy who cut it last week when I was attempting the messy bob, but found it took too long to get it right before work in the mornings so I was just blowing it out straight, and it was a bit too long to lay right. I'm now shorter on the sides and in back, and very pleased with how simple it is to style this baby into a swinging little bob. I'm done with the changes for now. Only took a month of multiple stylists and entirely too much money to arrive at a style I'm loving. (Eeek. Entirely too much obsession over hair here!)

Ann, they are a great looking group of animals! I'm fascinated with Monty's looks. I've never seen another like him! Here's wishing Stetson many senior years. As long as he's eating, you're good!

I also love Monty's stern look and the fact that he always looks vaguely worried about something. LOL Beau has beautiful eyes, they DO look like he wears eyeliner.

Stetson, though, Stetson is one of my favorites as you know. He's so handsome and so ready to pose for the camera and so clearly sweet. I'm sorry to hear that he's aging, although all our pets do. Here's hoping for many more happy years for Stetson.

Oh my!! Monty looks as though he's wearing UGG boots! I cracked up!

They all are so beautiful Ann. I remember when our Captain was aging, losing his hearing and going blind. He was so afraid of the weather during that time...He wasn't sure what was going on so he would get scared. It wasn't until he lost all hearing that he quit being afraid.

Stetson has to be one of the most beautiful dogs I've ever seen.

Oh, they will be so much more comfortable with their "summer do's"! They are all so cute.

Ann, have you tried anything for Stetson's arthritis? I am not big on drugs, but Mojo was so miserable with arthritis we finally opted to try Rimadyl. He is running like a puppy, now! No side effects that we have noticed, and if it gives him a few more pain free years, we feel it is worth it.

Monty with his furrowed brow - did he smell something unpleasant or does he just disapprove of us on general principles?

That Beau is so handome. I think some cats have the wisdom of the ages in their eyes.

Stetson is always my favorite, since I'm a dog person. I hope he can enjoy his bones and his family for a long time yet. The last few months I've noticed my mini poodle Andy has a little trouble getting up the front steps. 'Course, thirty minutes later he is flying around the house like a wild, young puppy - and he is about 8 now.

I'm so sorry that Stetson is having these difficulties, I know how hard it is for 'Mom & Dad', too. He really seemed to enjoy his prime rib, though.
