A day at the beach with Makayla and Bud

Last week we took Amanda, Ashley, Makayla and Bud and went to Ludington to "the sandy beach". That's Makayla's name for Lake Michigan. The Lake was clear and nearly as flat as an inland lake, calm and lovely.

Makayla loves the water, she's definitely one of us:

She and Mommy kicked the water with their feet because there weren't enough waves, and lay on their tummies to "swim".

Bud wasn't as brave as his sister, he wasn't sure he liked all this water

He also wasn't so sure about the "Little Swimmers" he was wearing instead of diapers, LOL

Elery and Makayla made a shark out of sand. Well, Elery made a shark and Makayla dumped water over it because "sharks have to live in the water". Well, of course they do!

We got so hungry, we had to have a picnic. I used the basket I got from David, and the beach blanket, it was perfect. We had turkey and roast beef sandwiches on homemade bread, cheese, crackers, apples, and homemade chocolate chip cookies. Ashley made a trip to the snack bar for ice cream and the kids used the cookies to make ice cream sandwiches. Funny, Ashley even looks fully made up when she's going to the beach. This was taken as we were leaving, she looked a bit more "messed up" after lying on the beach for a couple of hours. I shoulda gotten a picture of her then. (grin) She would have been very unhappy with me, I think.

It was a long drive home, almost an hour, LOL, so Bud was hungry again. He had to sit on Elery's lap and have a peanut butter sandwich.

When Amanda left to take the kids home, Makayla kissed Elery and said "Thank you SO much for taking me to the sandy beach, it was so fun." She was right, it was a good day, in spite of the sunburn I got!

Annie, those pictures are such a treat to look at after this very LOOOOONG Monday! Both of your daughters are so lovely, yet so different. Poor Bud, he'll just be at the point where he's getting used to those Little Swimmers before summer will be over, and then he won't wear them again for another 6 months! And Makayla sure looks cozy on Elery's lap. That's a serious picnic lunch you made - where's the PB&J??????

How wonderful that day was, I'm sure. Lake Michigan looks just like the ocean. Enjoy these beautiful summer days, they do go fast (unless you live in Florida, where it's summer almost all year long:-(

How sweet it is. I really enjoyed Buddy's reaction to the "Easter Bunny." I'll bet that bunny felt like a rock star with the wee ones. Heh. That picture is a definite keeper. Lordamightee. I've been looking at these pictures for the last 15 minutes, and I still can't pick a favorite - thankfully, I don't have to. But, I will say, the picture of Makayla tucked into bed, is the sweetest. Btw, the spot you chose to set up camp, looks just like one of our little hideaways, up in Luddington. Wonderfully Zen-like. Eileen, that was the ever-present "veggie pizza", my daughters love the stuff. Bake a crust out of crescent roll dough. Yeah, the stuff in the can, LOL. Mix a brick of cream cheese with a cup of mayo and some dry ranch dressing mix. I don't measure, just dump the dressing mix in, stir and taste until it's good. Top with fresh vegetables of your choice, chopped into pieces small enough to eat easily. Mine usually has cauliflower, broccoli, some green onions, carrots, red peppers. Even the kids gobble it down, go figure. I made it once with homemade pizza dough and no one wanted it. Back to the canned crescent rolls. (grin) Annie

What a fun day! You'd think with over 10,000 lakes we'd have a nice beach like that nearby....not! LOL

Wow, Annie - I can't believe how big Bud has grown! What a fine looking boy he is - I'm sure he's going to be the star quarterback in 15 or 16 years! Thanks for sharing your fun trip to the beach. And your beau looks like he might be a keeper, too! lol!

Looks like your family had a wonderful day at the beach and Elery is looking like he fits right in. What a great tan he has as well!

Great pics Annie!! Looks like a fun day all around but makes me miss the beach-I have about a month till we go to the beach 8-( sniff sniff.

Elery is really very handsome! He has a kind and gentle smile...like he just belongs in the fray so to speak.

What a fun day! Beautiful children, handsome man, good food and a very sandy one hour ride home with a couple of toddlers. Heck yeah, if I were Elery I'd stick around too ;-) It really doesn't get better than that.

Jessica, he really likes to cook, he cans his own salsa (but has decided that mine is better, smart man!) and actually enjoys Penzey's, Trader Joe's and that Mediterranean grocery. I tried to convince him to sign up but he says that the forum is "my own space" and he's not going to "intrude on it".

I think he's just scared of you! Plus, I figure after he meets a few of you, he'll be here out of curiosity.

A lovely summer day! Ashley is always glamorous! I can see those babes now, sound asleep on the ride home, tanned and gritty. Makayla looks a LOT like her pretty mommy in that photo.

What a fun day at the beach. Makayla and Bud are adorable. I love the pic of mom and daughter and the one of Ashley. Elery looks like he is having a great time, too.
