Adding Text with Photoshop..

I hope this will help some of you..with so many great tutorials out there..This one may be all wrong but it works for me..

Sorry it took a while to get it to you..I am partially off work today and we are babysitting DGS..he has fallen asleep and I am staying close by so this is the perfect op!

First Open your Photoshop program and a foto:

Next..

Click on the T in the vertical bar at the side..

I often pick Scriptina..As the font..which is shown at the top..After you click on the T...Place your cursor where you want the text and type..(Also note that there are 2 layers at the right..this comes in so handy once you get it)

Once your text is there..Go to Layers at the top a drop down menu will appear..click on Flatten ..

Now you will see that there is only one layer on the right.. called backround now..That allows to go and Save:)You do that where File is..again a drop down menu..

That's it!! You can pick colors..move the text..resize.. drop shadow etc..

I'll add one thing - Once you flatten the image, the text is now part of the picture. You'll need to pick your color, resize or move before you do the flatten step.

If you are saving in a .tif format you can leave the layers intact, but this will add to the file size. I usually save two documents one a .psd file with my unflattened layers and one in whatever format I need at the moment. The .psd format allows me to go back and manipulate the layers as needed.

Thank you Rudd! Oy I thought my tut explained that,many thanks.
I save 3 ways.. Hardly ever in Tiff since it is SOOO close to HIGH.
In printing ..it made no diff in my photos.

Melissa........ I agree about wanting my journal entries on HMF to be for my eyes only and you can select to make them private. Since I am on the site more than the average user, I probably depend on HMF more than most users because I am also always testing functionality. My suggestions to use HMF and its features are just that ... suggestions. What is easy and automatic for me, may not work for you. As for the worksheet in Excel, I haven't experimented, but in Lotus, when you are setting the page up for printing, you can tell it to print all of the columns to one page and the program automatically shrinks your font so that it will fit. Sometimes, it shrinks it so small, you need a magnifying glass .. lol. I am also working with an older version of Excel, so I am hesitant to offer suggestions about Excel. I have found Excel tutorials on Google and that may be a way of finding out how to set up your spreadsheet. Smiles, Lyn

OT: How annoying! New in-text ads

I had a difficult time figuring that thing out... When you are on the 'Disable' page it will say down below "Disable Vibrant Ads" with a "Click here to Disable". Click on this just ONCE. Click it again and you will re-enable it, lol. If it diables it correctly you will see the underlined 'Click here to disable' has changed to "Click here to Enable". I found it very tricky yesterday! Had to keep checking on GW threads to see if it had disabled the ads or if I needed to go back and click something else. By the way, I read somewhere that a member had to diable their FireFox program in order to get it to work. Hope you get it to work! CMK

Here's another site I like, Retouch Pro. Some of you have received greeting cards over the years I've created out of photographs, using some of the tips learned at this site. When I have time (ha!) I would love to experiment with this more. I've thought of buying Paint, as I hear it is a good companion to Photoshop. Maybe when I retire. :)

Thanks Monique and Doris. I was going to ask that, with my very limited experience with Photoshop, I wasn't sure if you needed to save the layers before you flatten.

I really appreciate this and aside from that one question I had this seems very clear. I'm going to try what Sharon posted first and then I'll try with Photoshop. So be forewarned! I'll probably be back with questions.
