Fluffy Hiding from the Vet (pics)

He's been having daily visits from the veterinarian to combat an asthma infection, so when the doorbell rings he runs to his safest hideout - under the table. This photo taken last year but he still does the same thing now every day. :-)

And here he is with Buffy. Both of them love to hang around on my work tables. No wonder my keyboard is always full of cathairs! LOL.

What about adding several more patio blocks so that you can position the grill in front of the airconditioner as a sorta screen to block the ugly view of a air...I think it might also unclutter the patio part so that you would be able to enjoy more so the new bed your creating...might find room for a chair or bistro table t hen to sit and enjoy your new bed or watch the grill while it cooks? A inexpensive arbor trellis across the front entry of it.might also add dimmension.... Stepping stones to the meter...and to hide it a bit even..what about a two armed shepards hook with several hanging baskets..just be sure to plant heat hardy, low water plants in the baskets..and go with BIG baskets and water crystals in the dirt. That might hide a bit the meter without obstructing the ability to read it. I too, would watch drainage...you might want to consider adding the cellar window cover over that window also and seal it maybe? Maybe some large grasses or small ornamental tree near the corner? I think it could benefit from some height and movement... Keep scale in mind...don't just fill it with little stuff...layer maybe? A bird bath or fountain in the middle might be nice? The bowl only portion might be a solution for the end of your retaining wall? A large enough one would cover that situation maybe? What about a concrete figure there? A finial type even? Or a one of those short concrete pillars with a light? Solar if electric is a problem? or statue or a pot on it? As kind of a anchoring feature of the wall? Another inexpensive dimmension might be a barrel on its side with flowers spilling out? I think its a good start and you have lots of options! Lots of random ideas. I see you have a nice birdbath and bistro table that you prolly want to reuse..

Thank you to everyone and especially to Worthy for posting my pics on the "builder's only" site. That was really helpful. After reading all the comments here and on the site Worthy posted on, plus everything else I can find about foundations and foundation repair and after talking to an engineer (from another state unfortunately) who has the expertise to actually do non-destructive foundation testing, we've finally decided that our best option at this point is to go ahead and allow the builder to do the "cosmetic fix" with high-strength, non-shrinking grout and then keep our fingers crossed that no structural effects show up down the road. Turns out that appropriate non-destructive testing of the foundation is pretty much cost prohibitive for a residential project. Plus, such testing can only result in one of two outcomes: 1) A finding that there are no structural problems which means we've bought "peace of mind" at the cost of not having enough money to finish the build unless we scale back to the very most basic of finishes and leave out pretty much every detail that made this our "dream home" to start with. - ergo, we wind up with a basic tract-home quality house that was built for a high-end custom-home price and which we would never ever be able to sell for what it cost to build; or 2) A finding that there are structural problems which will cost who knows what amounts to fix and which, in theory, our builder should be liable for. Unfortunately, in the past two weeks, I have also discovered that our builder lied to us and to our bank about having appropriate insurance in place before the foundation was poured. That in itself was a total breach of our contract and fraud but no insurance company will now insure the foundation because the work done prior to coverage! Plus, it has become clear to me that despite my having checked his references - including his financial status with his bank - he is actually on very thin ice financially. I suspect his bank is actually aware of this but was less than forthcoming to me about his status. All of which means, if we found out we actually do have foundation problems, he would probably bail from the whole contract and possibly even split town! My lawyer tells me a lawsuit in that event would be throwing good money after bad because if the builder is essentially broke and had no insurance then he is pretty much judgment proof which means even if I win there would be no way to ever collect from him. So, if there are foundation problems, we would have to pay to have them fixed or sell the property - with a known bad foundation sitting on it but no house - to someone who could afford to either fix the foundation and finish the house or have it jackhammered out and start over fresh. (Can't even imagine what it would cost to jack-hammer out nearly 2000 sq ft of rebar reinforced concrete slab!) So, we have fingers crossed that there are no real structural problems and are going ahead with the build on the CHANCE that the foundation is "good enough" and we'll wind up with our dream home without losing our shirts in the process. I'm not usually a head-in-the-sand kind of person but, at this point, I don't feel I have any other viable choice. Needless to say, I am livid especially because I DID check this guy's references every which way from Sunday including checking the website of our state agency that is supposed to register and police builders. They showed him as having a clean slate but it turns out that their on-line records appear to be at least 18 months out of date because in the last two weeks I've found out about 2 major lawsuits that have been pending against him for well over a year - both of which include claims of fraud as well as whole strings of construction defects. Plus, I've found out that the county D.A. is considering bringing a grand jury on him and indicting him for criminal fraud! At this point, I'm hoping he manages to stay out of jail and not declare bankruptcy long enough to even finish my house. And in the meantime, I'm at the site every single afternoon checking every single thing that has been done that day for myself and spending half the night researching what each stage of the build SHOULD look like. Builder is still scheduling subs and directing the build but, after confronting him about his lack of insurance and the two lawsuits, he agreed that from this point on, all financial matters will be routed through me and I made d--n certain he got the requisite coverage. I have also contracted for an independent third party inspector (not ATS) to come out an do several "phase inspections" at key points in the build - although I can't imagine any other problems/defects that could be quite so potentially expensive to correct. Hopefully this nightmare won't get any worse but with all of this going on, I probably won't have much time for visiting this forum so again, thank you to everyone and I would deeply appreciate prayers, blessings, good thoughts, and/or the sending of positive karma my way.

It's hilarious. "My sister-in law is from Oklahoma and has a slight accent. She has cats and when she lived in the south she would take them to the groomers and have what is called a Line Cut. To her a line cut is when all of the fur hanging down below the cat's tummy is taken off (because it gets matted or snarled). When she moved to Chicago with my brother, one of the cats fur got all tangled up during the move so she took it in for a line cut. She was quite surprised when she heard the price as it was twice as much as it was down south. She confirmed with the groomer that he understood what a line cut was and he said "yes, I know what a LION cut is." It seems her accent came out sounding like LION not LINE and this is how her cat was returned to her. (see PHOTOS) She cried for a week...but not as much as the cat. It was November in Chicago and the cat needed all the fur it had." Gas in car to go to groomers.....$4.50 Cat car carrier.....$32.99 Grooming fee.....$80.00 Getting the look from one seriously ticked off cat.....Priceless!

Beautiful Pyr! I also have livestock guardians, so I'll share a few of my experiences. She's a little thin, but not much - it's really SO much better for these dogs to be on the thin side to avoid problems like HD. LGD's really can't be compared to dogs from the sporting or herding groups. They're serious working dogs who were bread to work independently of man, not particularly with man. They rely on a big bark to deter predators. They are willing to back this up with speed and power IF they need to. In other words, LGD's are slow, unless they need to be fast *g* They walk slowly, they obey slowly .... right up until they spot something they perceive to be threatening. Then they move very very (did I mention very?) quickly. My girl is a 120 lb, 31" spayed Akbash (Anatolian Shepherd). She is a very tall, massive female - as large as most males - and well outside the breed standard. I also have a male neutered ASD who is 31" and 145 lb. They eat remarkably little food for their size. The male eats 1.5 c of Wellness 2x/day with NO scraps or other food. The female was maintaining perfectly with 3/4 c of Wellness 2x per day. Both sometimes skip a meal and resume the next day without playing catch-up. The female was diagnosed with osteosarcoma 2 months ago and now needs to eat when I need her to eat in order to take her meds, so I am now supplementing her food with canned Wellness. Even so, a can of food lasts a week. I will take exception with the above poster who questioned their "brightness" LGD's are NOT eager beavers. They are not a golden, a border collie or a GSD..... their whole life is not based on working WITH you. They don't fetch (more than once or twice - the third time you'll get a look that very clearly says "I suggest you hold onto that this time" Obedience is something they have to do, not something they want to do in order to please you, so they aren't like other dogs in the working group like rotti's, boxers or berners either. Their whole approach to training is much more akin to dogs in the hound group. It can be done - I'm an obedience instructor - but it requires dedication and persistence to get to a high level of reliability. They're very very smart and are very quick learners but there's always a little glint in the eye that says "Why should I?" Your biggest challenge will be teaching them "becasue i said so" I love the livestock guardian dogs and hope you enjoy your new addition!!

Yes there are five from our original bunch (all from the same straycat greatgrandmother, who bred exponentially in our garden before I caught them one by one and had them spayed), the names are
, Buffy (female)- seen in the photo above, smaller than the rest and about the same age - around 10 years old,
, who sleeps in strange places
who has white fine fur like a rabbit, seen together with Suzie (both females) who was blinded in an accident. Now Bunny stays close by her side, even though Suzie knows her way around the house and garden with no problems. She can even run across the lawn following a butterfly overhead by the sound.
And then there's the newest addition, another male, who came to our garden one day and decided he liked the free food and all the women (4 of them) and so stayed on, living outside in our backyard. I named him
and it looks like he's too happy here to leave LOL!

They never have run away riverrat. Heck they have it too good at home - warm patio, lawn, bushes to hide under, food twice a day, and at night when it's chilly they can come inside and sleep on a blanket-covered chair - or in Buffy's case a warm electric heating pad in winter, and two of them sleep on my lap for a while if I'm watching TV. Free veterinary service (free for them I mean lol). If anything they're getting more and more attached to being around me but I stop at having more than two at a time on my lap :-).

They're all over 10 years old so they're in their senior years and have no urge to wander off any more.

Aah, Sharon... I love them all! You are such a good kitty Mommy! I think it's hilarious when Kit hides, but her tail is still "out". She really thinks she's hidden. Really great pictures of your furry family. I wish Kit would sit on my lap, but she won't...only beside me. She's ten years old too, but I still think of her as my baby...I don't want to think of her as a senior. Thanks for sharing!

Sahron, you are indeed a good kitty Mommy. I was glad to read that the shots are almost over. Are they just given in the scruff of her neck or do they have to go into a vein? We gave our diabetic cat insulin injections twice a day for several years. It was far easier than when we had to give him pills, as you know that's a nightmare.

Now, for the time being our household is catless, but all of our cats thought they could hide under the glass topped coffee table in the living room. We never had the heart to tell any of them we could just look through and see them.

It's the same with Fluffy as he has been hiding under that table since last year LOL. But he forgets that we know he's there, especially when his tail is out. But as long as his head is underneath the cloth he thinks it's dark for us too :-).

The injections go into his backside. I'm holding onto the scruff of his neck and now can manage to hang on tight for about 10 seconds while the vet does his part. Today is the last day, thank heavens!

The name "Fluffy" always makes me think of Cartman's potbellied pig (on South Park).

Today when I was parking across the street from the back of my house, I noticed that the fence to the house across the street was opened up, and so I looked inside, and the house was completely gone. All that was left was some of the concrete foundation, which laid out the orientation of the rooms. It was like visiting a ghost town. I mention this because the woman who lived there had a black cat who spends most of his time in my yard, and still does! I'm not sure who is feeding him (not me), but he does not look hungry. He catches mice in my yard that are around the aviary, and he can drink water from my pond, when the waterfall is on. I won't leave cat food outside because it attracts possums, but I do think someone else is feeding him. He has a very nice disposition, but long fur, and so I can't get too close to him.

Lars why can't you get too close to him? Are you allergic to cat fur?
Seems odd that the woman would move away and leave her pet cat doesn't it.
I've only heard about but never seen South Park.

Here there are many stray cats as they breed on waste ground and as the weather is mild, they live outdoors and feed from back doors of hotels and restaurants. Several of the local animal shelters also try to catch and neuter them to stop the proliferation of homeless animals. My bunch originated from just one homeless mother whom I fed......and a few weeks later she came back to our garden with 6 babies in tow! Then they all disappeared for a while and came back with.....more babies! I had to enlist the help of a friendly retired Irish veterinarian to start catching (trapping) and spaying them all. So these are now the last of the bunch and they are quite domesticated and go no further than our garden wall.

In 2002 Fluffy had an accident and we never did find out if he had fallen from a roof or had gone out into the street and been hit by a vehicle, but he had a dislocated shoulder and broken leg. So he was operated by our Spanish vet and had a cast and splint on his leg for some weeks. The vet would come to check him out from time to time and Fluffy was so upset from being examined that he ran to hide in the cactus garden every time our doorbell rang.

I took a pic of him there in the garden at the time and as yesterday was the last visit from the vet, I printed out a full 8.5 x 11 inch semi-gloss colour print to give to him, with the caption 'waiting for the visit of Juan Carlos'. The total of seven daily visits to our house, including those on Saturday and Sunday only cost us slightly more than US$50. Some things are still to be had for little money here in Spain.

All I remember from South Park was Cartman yelling "You leave Fluffy alone!"

Cats don't need mild weather to thrive outside - my parents have a lot of cats that breed outside, but coyotes get a lot of them.

Yes, I'm allergic to cat fur (or dander), and I can be around short-haired cats for a bit, but if I pet them, it gets pretty bad. I really like cats too, and I would have one if I weren't allergic.
