Joining the AHS does have lots of benefits. You will be invited to join robins where you can communicate with other people that share your interests. You will receive 4 Daylily Journals annually full of information about daylilies. For your membership fee, you will receive a voucher for free daylilies. You will receive your regional newsletters. You will be placed on the AHS Membership list and unless you exclude your information, you will receive catalogs from the various growers, introducing their newest introductions. I personally have never felt inundated with them. And AHS just started delivering a Newsletter via email; very nicely done I might add. Most of the people that run AHS are volunteers, and they work for AHS because of their love for daylilies and the people that love them. Please give them a little more patience than you would someone doing this for pay. I currently belong to a local club which charges a membership fee. The membership fee barely covers the cost of making an annual yearbook and postage costs. If the local club holds a Flower Show, AHS will support the effort but does require that half the Club members be AHS members. I am considering joining a second club and feel the information I get from the meetings and networking with other members to be invaluable. I have also been able to meet most of the noted hybridizers at the Club meetings. So if you're interested in Daylilies, you can't beat doing both! Ed

Thanks for the comments on the "girls". They do match the decor.....but that was by accident. We had silver poodles previously....but they are harder to find in Texas, for some reason. Got these girls about a week after loosing our previous "child". Had to drive to a place east of Waco to get them, from a breeder there. They "played" all the way home, in the worst of rough-house way. Anyway, they hadn't done any real damage to one another, by the time I got them home, so that was ok. They stood together that way, because they naturally did that. They would go across the house, like they were joined at the hip. They don't like being separated at all. It is always a hassle to take them to the groomer or vet, because you can't take just one. Anyway.....they are our "kids". The good part, is they can go to the "country club" when we need a break from them, or have someplace to go where "kids" aren't permitted. They do pretty well there, and hardly miss us, until we get back. (Thank goodness for a really good kennel.) Rick

Salonva - Murphy also came from the south. I’m not sure exactly where. Our local Humane Society has a “Love Train” program where they get dogs from kill shelters and bring them here where they will be adopted. The truck comes every two weeks or so, and honestly, people get a number before they even open so they have a chance to adopt. There were 7 who came from Murphy’s litter, in addition to many other dogs. DH happened to be home early from work when we got the notification of their arrival (we asked for notifications for labs under 6 months old). We decided to look while our kids were are school. The man in front of us was looking at Murphy (the last male, which was our preference). He pulled the paperwork and said he was adopting him. We looked at the females but I just didn’t feel that “click” with them. So we left. Later that evening I noticed that the online post for Murphy hadn’t been pulled yet. When I called to clarify they said he was available! They agreed to hold him only if we came NOW. So.... kids got a surprise visit to the humane society. We all fell in love with him. His whole litter had chemical burns on their back which was frightening. 1. I felt terrible for the pups, but 2. I was afraid of what type of damage there may be. Luckily, Murphy is almost completely healed and his hair is growing back. The staff at the humane society said it looked like in undiluted flea dip gone wrong, but we will never know what happened. I like to think it wasn’t something malicious.
