I put this on Discussions on a TGIF thread, but I guess it really belongs here. So, here I am, new hair!

Thanks to y'all I am a brunette again. Whew! It may have been tempting fate, but I decided to DIY again, due to both time and budget constraints. I wanted to get this done before dh returned from his trip. "Brass Banisher" followed by conditioner followed by the suggested Natural Instincts Brass Free Light Brown followed by more conditioner seems to have done the job. The only concern is that the Natural Instincts isn't permanent, so I'll have to find a permanent ash brown product to try in a few weeks or so (after lots more conditioner.) On the plus side, my hair feels quite silky, much to my surprise. Meanwhile, if I can get some good referrals for a top notch colorist, I may try to squeeze the budget next month to have it professionally done...then let it grow out and live with the grey temples!

jane - yes - you're right - it is surprising how many redheads we have! annie - well, you were actually right - my NATURAL color WAS brunette! Actually, I always considered it a "dirty blonde" - very light brown, with lots of lighter highlights. I was always adventurous with hair color, though - and had it every available color at one time or another, and was a redhead for a long time! I had every shade of red from strawberry blonde to really red to auburn. Loved red! Now it's just keeping the grey covered! I've been away - in North Carolina for a week - and I think it's going to take me forever to catch up with all the posts! And of course, I have to look at EVERY post, cause I don't want to miss anything! Took my laptop with me, but the only wireless connection I located was password protected. I know I could have probably gone somewhere to get connected (library, cafe or something) but I didn't really have the time to do that.

I can't wait to see pictures of Maggie. Love the name. If you wanted to try another DA rose, I have had great success with Pretty Jessica which laughs at the heat, is upright and stays small but tall for a DA rose. I would say mine is about two to three feet wide, if that and about four to five feet tall. Constant bloomer. Next one would be Princess Alexandra of Kent but give her room to grow. She is a beaut! Flowers bigger than my hand in spring and fall. Smaller flowers in the heat. She takes a beating and keeps on ticking! Next would be Munstead Wood. Love, love, loveo him. He also takes the heat. All three have to be the best DA roses I have seen for the heat. Now, that being said, my first timer roses that have been in the ground about six months (if that) and on their own roots, that seem to be doing pretty well for me are also Lady of Shalott and Alwick. They are both babies and being subject to full sun all day long and until this week, 100--110 degree heat. Both are producing sporadically with tiny flowers but their leaves look good and they are continuing to put on new growth. I think once they get established in a couple of years, they will be fine. I hope Lady's flowers tone down the orange a bit in the future. Another rose, still very young and on its own root that seems to be doing well is Occhi di Fata. It is starting to put out a few more blooms and the growth is good. It is a charming rose and I hope for great things in the future.

Hi Kim, so many comments to fish through but I think the only for sure thing so far is the wood look tile flooring? SO do yourself a big favor here and commit to white tile. Keep it clean and classic. Bring in fresh color with your paint. If you want that blue tile then do just a touch as a stripe or trim in the shower. What are your counters? Cabinets? Fixtures? Here I've used the wood plank tile on a herringbone for floor. In shower kept it simple with a beveled white large format subway for walls. Inset niche with a Carrara hexagon and did the same on shower floor. It leans coastal with the paint color and Capiz shell chandelier.

Jessica, um.....why do I need a MySpace Account? Ashley's friends told her she needed one too and she told them she didn't have time to keep it up. I guess I don't know what it's used for, really, except teenaged chat.

Shaun, I'm not thin. I'm thinner, but not yet thin. I'm working on it, though.

I did a deep purple-y auburn for a while. Fun! But hard to keep looking fresh. I switched to low upkeep brunette.

Did I hear (read) you say on my dehydrator thread "the grandkids may like fruit leather" or something of the sort? Surely you don't have grandkids! Thought you looked fine before, looks like ya can't go wrong no matter what you do. I do like red heads... my favorite person in the world (Lucy!) was one! Don't tell me you used her secret Henna rinse!

Thank you, everyone. I always wanted to be a redhead, and this is the first time I've had the nerve. The color is actually called "Golden Apricot", which I think is very appropriate for the Cooking Forum, LOL.

Nancy, I'm still the same, you'd recognize me easily. (grin) It's that darned big mouth that does it!

Peppi, should I come and visit, you could help me take Chicago by storm. The two of us together? Oh my. As for "that body", well, I have everything I've always had, some of it is just not where it used to be. (grin)

Bobby, you are a sweetheart. I'll be 52 next month, plenty old enough for grandchildren. And oh boy, do I remember Lucy's secret henna rinse!

You remind me a bit of Reba McIntyre with that hair color. That's also the color that DB's hair was when he was in his 20s, but it's a bit darker now. When he was little and people asked him what color his hair was, he would say "orange". I like the lighter shade of red that you got. My sister has darker red hair, and I've been trying to get her to put highlights in it, but she won't. I like your color better than hers.
