Market Day in Tacoronte

I've posted a few pics on the WTD thread but wanted to put the album link here with a few more pics of the excursion last Saturday I made with my friend Anne. We made a quick visit to the local English library and I made some photos of the inside and the grounds.

Then we drove up the coast to one of the local farmers' Saturday market in the village of Tacoronte. There I bought some green beans, herbs, country bread and locally made honey vinegar. The market was near to closing time so I got a parking space right near the door. Some of the stall sellers were packing up their goods but we did some good shopping and both came out the door laden.

. Those were good beans - we had them with our turkey dinner !

We drove further to a seaside town where bathers and fishermen line the water's edge. Across the street from the shore are fish restaurants where we stopped to dine. Food pics on the WFD thread #189 and in the album link below.

so I had to jump out of the car and take a few more photos.

It will probably be our last outing until the fall as Anne goes back to England next Saturday. :-(

Thanks! Of our 4 girls, she is by farm the hardest working and most observant. You show her once and she's got it. Last spring she helped me put our drip tape. I pulled a wagon with the drip tape roll in the back. When I stopped her job was to stop the roll from unrolling. She caught on very quick. We got the job done very quick. Last summer she would come out and pick cherry tomatoes with me. She would pick more than her sisters. 4 to 6 pint baskets. Not to bad for a 3 year old. Best of all she WANTED to do it. Jay

Glad your market went well, congratulations. We were very intimidated at our first market, but until you jump in you just don't know how much to bring, how to display your produce, etc. Having friendly vendors at your market is a big plus.

Saltidawg, maybe she means things like "The seller is unreasonable and abusive." Since the listing agent is supposed to be working for the seller, saying things like that would not be ethical since it's just an opinion and not a fact. If it's because of some actual flaw in the house that was revealed during the inspection, then the listing agent (and seller) is required to disclose the defect whether it's detrimental to the seller or not. But I'm not sure if they are required to do so before you even see the house, just before any agreements are signed. I'm sure someone will jump in to clarify that point. Probably, if asked, they have to disclose it right away. If it was something to do with the buyer (financing fell through, etc) then the listing agent isn't required to let anyone know, but it would probably be in their best interest to do so in order to put speculation to rest.

I've only seen gasteria twice, and I overpaid the second time because I didn't buy the first lol. I have found a couple neat aloes. I thought gasteria/aloe hybrid possibly because of the distichous (sp?) growth, but learned here that aloes often begin that way and begin to rotate as they mature. I have id'd the striata and still have a NoID. Have to wait until it's larger to ID I suppose. It doesn't seem that happy, I think I'm underwatering it and it wants more light. Those spines used to be bright red. Kd

Beautiful pictures, Sharon, as always, I love the pictures of the ocean and the vendors. The market is very nice but I'm wondering what "honey vinegar" is. Is it honey that has been fermented somehow to turn to vinegar or is it vinegar with added honey for flavoring? And what would you use it for? Salad dressings, maybe?

Karen - we were charmed that day and had three "princess parking" experiences LOL. The English library is down a tiny narrow, crooked street with a space for 3 cars outside. Someone pulled out just as we arrived. Same things happened at the market - someone was leaving and I pulled into their space when we got there and at the beach - which was packed that day - I saw in the distance a car was leaving a space just in front of the restaurant. Anne and I laughed so hard as we couldn't believe it !

Linda I also love those calla lilies. Our new gardener has just brought us bunch of them with roots from his own garden for planting in our front yard.

Annie - the lady who was selling the honey vinegar said it is especially good on salads, and I see on the label it says the same. I'll have to look up how they make it as I've also never seen it before. I still have to open and taste it but I'll wait until I make our next salad. The label says in Spanish....'harvested and produced by artisan methods'. I would imagine it starts out as honey and then is fermented, but I'll let you know.

Sharon... Breathtaking! I always love your pictures, but you know that. I feel like I've just been on holiday, visiting your lovely area. And, I've enjoyed all your excursions with Anne. What a wonderful life!

Sharon, I couldn't open any of your links on the WFD thread and the same thing happened here until I opened the "Link to Photos" ... then everything opened fine. Odd.

I always enjoy 'tagging along' on your outings. So many neat things to see.

I bet honey vinegar is like cane vinegar. I use the cane vinegar with hot pepper jelly and olive oil to make salad dressing.
