Winter storm...

Last night's snow was perfect - I haven't seen a snowfall so beautiful in several years. There was no wind and decent temps, so I talked Scott into going for a walk. It was breathtaking. So serene.

Will and some neighborhood kids enjoying it...:-)

It's relatively calm right now but we are supposed to expect another 6 inches or so tonight.

Linda, that' so funny - Christmas Eve snow is exactly what I said to Scott when we got outside...:-)

Thanks, we love our house too. I can say that cause even though we've worked hard to "bring it back" - it's charm was there waaaay before we bought it...:-)

Crazy winter storm!

These crazy swings from the 40's to the single digits have me worried about winter sowing jugs. I have a few that have sprouted, not hardies, either, and I have serious doubts they can sustain three days of single digits so I'm hauling them back and forth from the garage. The snow will be a welcome insulator! I am also grateful I have nothing poking its head above ground of the very few things already planted. I did plant many many many tulips last year for the first time, so I've been watching to see when they will appear. No sign yet. I know I shouldn't expect them for a looooooong time up here. It would take ridiculously warm weather to make them pop out this soon.

I have a nice grove of the native Hamamelis virginiana that blooms late Oct. into Nov. Yours look like they have bigger petals than mine. Their bloom can be sparse, almost invisible to full and very showy from year to year. I had a nice collection of small seedling trees I wanted to re-home. The utility company came in this spring and did a very targeted attempted murder of them. The spraying crew boss must have freaked a bit when he called them off before major carnage could happen. My easement is an official no spray zone. I opted not to complain. Because. This spring I will know how many survived.

Ellen, it's a bit cooler here at the beach - only 75Â°, but beautiful and sunny.

Snow pictures always amaze me. Those globes look surreal, and I find it interesting that your snow is red colored. The one time I was able to photograph snow (on Mt. San Jacinto), it came out blue in the photo. Your house is very beautiful also. Those pictures would have scared me as a child. Whenever I saw pictures of scenes with snow on the ground, I thought the white parts were ghosts.

Lars, each time I see a photo like this, I always think of you - I think you're the first person who ever told me that those spots can be spirits...

I think the snow looks that color because of those odd colored streeet lights - like baby aspirin. I think there are a couple of those on that street.

The picture is just breathtaking. As much as I am tired of winter now, that picture is just so peaceful and serene. Lovely! I, also, love your house. It is a home with character.

Stacy, that's the kind of snow I love. Of course, we got 41 inches of it in February alone, so even I've had enough. LOL

Here it's 40 and the snow is melting, but it's going to take quite a while.

That's a perfect picture ! And a great example of why winter in NY can be lovely .(esp when I'm inside looking out LOL).

You need to save that to use in July !
