Who's afraid of a little color! LOL!

DS#2 (soon to be 5) was *over* the baby room decor (bunnies and blocks on the border, pastel colors, etc) so I let him choose the new colors for his big boy room. I think he chose wisely! LOL!

Ok, is the lower color blue or periwinkle??
On my screen it looks more purple.

Whos afraid of color???? Not me!!
Amy's room is classic red and Drews is an almost neon teal and raspberry!!!
The kitchen is bright yellow and blue and once I get better the whole living area will be Wild Hawk (think coffee with just a wee splash of cream).
The family room is electric blue accents.

Naw, I am not afarid of color....in fact, one of our trucks is purple!! LOL!!!

The lower color is called either Regal or Royal (I can;t remember) and it is somewhere between blue and dark purple. It is from the Rugrats collection of paints.

Teal and Raspberry, huh? Wow I bet that is bright and fun!

It has taken a long time for em to stray from shades of white - but now that I have, I am all for it!

Interesting points Bboy, some of the big nursery sellers around here turned out to be friggin' weeds - like Norway maples, shrub honeysuckle, and Multiflora rose - they practically propagate themselves! Kind of like the fast food of the plant world. I think someone who advocates growing exclusively native plants is an extremist (although combining the word "nazi" with "native plant" is the other extreme). People like to grow exotics and that's not going to change. I take a moderate position and grow mostly natives but also grow non-invasive exotics like Lilacs, Daffodils, Peonies, etc. These are beautiful plants, easy to grow, and unlikely to take over the countryside any time soon. IMO it's well worth trying to control invasive species. What should people do, just roll over and let them spread rampantly until that's all that grows in the wild? It may not be possible to completely eradicate invasive plants that have become widespread in wild areas, but who knows - biological or other improved methods of control may be developed someday, that could eradicte or bring invasive species back into balance. Hopefully people will learn from experience and determine more efficient plans of attack for controlling invasive plants in the future.

we are not afraid, lol. it started in the neighbors yrd and does spread into our blue spruce and around on the ground. we started trimming the spruce a couple of yrs ago then the creeper started climbing up it. easy fix really, the last 2 yrs i have just used a garden rake to pull it down. since it comes out all attached to each other it is only a 5 minute job but needs to be done yearly. we love it, it creates a great privacy fence. i read a tip somewhere about creeper and ivy too if you are worried about it on your house. if you girdle or sever the stems at the base and let it die off, it shouldnt do damage to your shingles or siding when you finally pull it off.

I am ready to work out in the yard too. Last week it was pretty nice but then of course over the weekend we had mostly rain. My lawn is like a swamp back there, the groundwater level is so high from all the snow and recent melt off. But...my bulbs are starting to grow and I can see the tulips, daffodils, hyazinths, crocuses, iris and alliums peeking through the ground... Over the weekend I was soooooo mad...because my crocuses were just getting ready to bloom and along came 'some-bunny' and ate them all...:( I really like my decorating bunnies much better then the real on that frequents my backyard...at least they won't eat my flowers...lol I am still a beginner when it comes to gardening...we moved into this house about 2 years ago...it had existing landscaping...a bit too formal for me...but it was nice...so the first year I didn't do much...last year was a major remodel year...inground pool was completly remodeled...addition was added...I created some more flowerbeds in the backyard and planted some grasses and mostly bulbs in the fall....this year will be the year to add the patio that connects the addition and the old patio...and planting perrenials and deciding on a new design for the landscaping in the front of the house...I will probably ask alot of questions during the planting season...I manage ok with creating potted arrangments but I am not sure how well I'll do creating gardens...LOL

Hi all! I am so grateful for all your comments. We had this house built 19 yrs ago. I am 55 & just retired from teaching. My husband is in county politics, so we plan on being here awhile. Our son is grown & the house is too big for the two of us, but to sell & buy smaller what we want would be about the same money. I figure this is my last kitchen so I need to do it up right. The cabinets will be good quality for around here. Custom made by a popular area cabinetmaker, or a small company in the next county. Kitchen Jewels from Jasper, IN--anyone heard of them? Someone asked--our appliances are GE Profile. WE went to the local Parade of Homes today & every house we saw was dark cabinets, dark counters, & dark or SS appliances. Now I'm not sure I like that look all put together. Our kitchen is fairly small with one over the sink window. It opens completely into the dining room & it opens into a sunroom. (I found out later why the saleslady wanted me to order the pink chairs--she wanted to see them to see if she wanted them in her house!! She could have had mine!) I won't mind the cleaning of the black granite. I would wipe down my counters anyway. Some of you said my appliances will be wearing out soon. Not the stove--it is never used. I am a non-cook. Hate to cook. That may get me kicked off this forum with my very first post!

I missed out on the decorating gene entirely, so I would have painted it white. LOL Ashley assures me that the green and blue are both "cool" colors set off by the "warm" yellow accents. She likes it a lot and says it reminds her of a "rugby shirt". Whatever that means.

It's definitely a boy's room, I'm sure he loves it!

Wowee! A Nemo room - I LOVE Nemo!

Its really great, Alexa. Did you do the painting? I think its great that you let him decide (maybe with a little guidance?) on his room. I still see him in my mind doing a cartwheel on the landing on your front stairs (and holding my breath and no, he didn't fall and break his neck) and yes, I'd say he's way out of bunnies and pastels, LOL).

I love it Alexa! Great colors for a boys room. I'm saying that sitting in a room I sponged using 5 different colors. Nope I'm not afraid of color either.
Now if I could just figure out what color to use in my dang bathroom.....

Yes, I did the painting. It was really fun and not nearly as difficult as I thought it might be.

He actually picked out the colors pretty much by himself. We brought home a stack of those little color samples from Lowe's and sat on his bed (with the Nemo comforter) and selected his 3 favorites. I made the decision how to put them on the wall though. He originally wanted a solid color on each wall and I thought doing the stripe would add a little visual interest.

Thanks again for all the nice comments and 3 days into this he still loves it and says "wow" every time he goes into his room - too cute!

Awesome! :D I love the use of bold, bright colors on bedroom walls! I so want to change Zane's room. It's currently a boring soft green checked wallpaper. :(
