I agree, with your tight space you could use that 4 inches. I wouldn't think it would be too big a problem to adjust that connection, either.

Oh it looks lovely Lars! And I can appreciate your wanting to have every inch of space as I have the same problem in my tight little kitchen. It's a bit like cooking in a small galley of a boat or on a camper isn't it LOL! I pretend it's fun.

I hope you can have that pipe shortened easily. And good luck with the gas oven. I had one years ago when I was in a rented apartment and even cooked a turkey dinner for 15 people with it. The turkey turned out perfectly. I'm sure gas ovens must be even better nowadays.

oooh lars - it looks great! I know exactly what you're going through.. My previous stove didn't quite fit in the opening and I wanted to make use of the space - always planned to have some vertical "shelves" or dividers to store cookie sheets. We never got around to it, so my new stove is wider to fill the space - lol.

Very handsome, Lars. You should definitely get the pipe shortened. Otherwise, things will be falling behind it and they will be difficult to retrieve. Four inches in a kitchen can make a big difference.

I had a pedestal sink installed in my powder room. At the time, the door was off of it. When I re-hung the door, I realized it would clear the sink by about a quarter inch. Sorry, but you really do need to be able to close the door to the bathroom. So, I took a rasp and sawed away a chunk of the door so it would close.

Lars, Congratulations! I know you're going to enjoy your new stove, and I'm in complete agreement about wanting to use every inch of your kitchen. (I can see by the tools on your magnetic bar you're a serious cook. My bench scraper is among one of my favorite tools.) Will you put some kind of splash on the wall next to your stove? You will love that higher heat burner, and I'm looking forward to seeing what comes out of your kitchen! My oven gets as much cooking time as the burners, so I can see why you wanted higher heat there as well. Enjoy that first pizza!

It's beautiful, Lars. It looks pretty powerful, too. I'm anxious to see how well you enjoy cooking with gas. I thought it would take me a while to get used to it, especially with the high BTU's of the power burner, but I got accustomed very quickly and I love the instant on/instant off nature of cooking with gas. We have LP, though, not natural gas.

Woo Hoo! Giddyup! It is beautiful!

I still haven't read the manual yet, but I did glance it at - enough to know that I need to prime the oven, which I will do today. I've been reluctant to cook on it because I always make such a mess when I cook, but I did make rice yesterday (to have with enchiladas) I sautéed the rice with onion and garlic before boiling it, and so I used my high heat burner. It's going to take a bit of getting used to, since it gets hotter than my previous one, and I didn't need to turn it all the way up. I think I could have used the medium burner for sautéing, and I'll try that next time. I've actually been making salads lately, plus I had made very large batches of lasagne and enchiladas so that I would not HAVE to cook for a while, during my adjustment period. I'm anxious to make pizza, but I need to buy some more flour first. I also don't know how to turn the oven on yet. :(

Lars, very exciting! It looks great -- I'm the same way with these things, I get excited and then it takes me a few days to take the time to read the manual and get on with it -- I have a feeling you will love it - enjoy!

What a beauty! It really does look like my GE! Funny! Once you read the manual it will be easy to work. On mine there is a bake button to turn it on on the left of the clock. There is a broil button for the broiler. Then a +/- button to the right that controls the temp. The +/- button is also used for setting the time for the timer and setting the clock. The high output burner is great for bringing large pots of water to a boil fast, but that is all I use it for turned up all the way. Enjoy your new stove!

That's a very sharp looking stove. How exciting to get a new appliance... I am so happy for you! Hope you are able to figure out all of its features and quirks soon enough!

Lars, my oven smelled funny at first. I was told to run the cleaning cycle and that would help get rid of it. It did help some, but I still get a little bit of that smell when it is heating up.

It took me awhile to get used to the touch pads. I always had ranges where you just twisted a knob. I'd still prefer that.

I did turn the oven on Wednesday to burn out the new smell (if any), and it really did not smell. I'm still not sure how it works, and so I'm going to have to read the manual again. There were too many buttons to push, and I was never sure what was happening. Once I start using (like possibly this week-end), I'll get the hang of it. The range part is easy, however. I did learn that to make the clicking stop when you first light the burner, you have to turn the knob off of the "light" setting. I don't think that was in the manual, but I figured it out fairly quickly. I'm really enjoying the range part of it.

BTW, I found out from the manual that the highest heat setting is 550°, and that made me happy. I don't think I will need it hotter than that. It's got a nice large window and light, which will help me prevent things from burning. I'm scared to use the self-cleaning feature, after Arabella's experience.

I'm going to have to clear some space in the fridge this week-end before I bake pizza because I like to store the dough there, and I make large batches. There's room - I just have to rearrange things. I wish I had help with the fridge duties once in a while. I'm going to start going through my recipes to see what I want to bake first. I'm not going to roast anything until there is more fridge space, however. I'm anxious to make bread, but I have a new job that started today, which will cut into my cooking/baking time, but it's a very good opportunity for me.

I wonder what kind of chili this is. I have a feeling that it is going to be very hot.

I was very happy with the pizza, but I discovered that when I set the oven to 505°, it only reached 450°. I think there is a way of adjusting the thermostat to fix this - otherwise I will set the oven at 550° - the maximum setting. The pizza took 13 minutes to cook instead of 8 to 10 minutes, and so I think it will be helpful to get the thermostat set correctly. If I have to, I will call Sears, since I have 30 days to be satisfied. I would rather be able to make the adjustments myself, however, so that I will not be dependent on others or have to wait for them.

The pizza crust was light and crispy, although it could have been slightly more crispy. It was one of the best pizzas I've ever made, if not the best, and so I'm very motivated to make more. I plan to make pumpernickel bread this week as well, but right now we do not need any more bread. I'm stocked up on ingredients, however.

I want to get a couple of more pizza screens so that I can have a pizza party and make three pizzas at once. I have more dough in the fridge right now and will probably be making calzone tomorrow, for lunches later in the week. I can already tell that I am going to have a lot of fun with this oven. DB helped me figure out how to turn it off.

Lars, what a wonderful change for you! I get it!! I was just as over the top when I got my new cooktop (pre renovation) and I finally had burners that worked AND I could boil pasta.

It's pretty and it's practical, and I don't think there's anything silly or sad about enjoying a stove/range. We're not asking you to gush over a chihuahua carrier or some such fluff!

And, yes, I agree ....you have a hot pepper there. Looks like potential for habanero or something else vicious.

Lars, watch out! I think you have a very hot pepper there in your back yard.

I'm worried that I might have a deadly nightshade! I asked some people on the chili forum about it, and they said it probably is not a chili at all! I'm definitely going to have to ID it before I consider eating it. The clusters of fruit are not typical of chilies, I think, but I don't know that much about them.
