In cold zones, the easiest way to have happy healthy Dwarf Alberta Spruce is to plant them in a location out of the winter and early spring sun ... such as on the north side of a building or structure. I have the very attractive selection named 'Sander's Blue', though it always burnt badly in March and looked so crappy that I had shovel pruned it. I got another one at a good price at Canadian Tire and put the thing near to the north foundation where it's now been very happy and looking darn good. I always water it well prior to winter and only safeguard it from the neighbor's dogs peeing on it.

Thanks, everyone! Glad you enjoyed the pictures. Bebe, you called that one right. Those strands took me 15 mins. apiece, and that was if I didn't make any mistakes (I made a lot of booboos since each strand had its own pattern). The math/pattern alone on that was tough enough to figure out. I started out thinking I'd bead fringe for the whole thing, but quickly changed my mind. If you're not insane already, doing that job will put you there. lol I'm putting the surgery off till I finish the toy box. Both hands have bad osteoarthritis in the thumb joint, and hurt all the time, so I'm eager to get them fixed!

Rose, you are so talented! I love what you have created. A quick question. Do you know if that new model is compatible with Apple computers? DD used to have the Silhouette, back when she did a lot of scrap booking but sold it when she got her Mac Book as it didn't work with it. She is thinking of doing g more projects now so was wondering if it would be worth looking into. Thanks!

"Lindsey_CA, that's not a beaten up look. Some call it 'patina'." I think there's a huge difference between "patina" and "beaten up." These two pics which I just grabbed off a Google image search for "distressed furniture" show what I mean. I think they're hideous, but would be beautiful if they were refinished.

That's lovely Linda. It would be a very special gift for someone. Those stained glass hangings look so pretty against the light don't they.

How you are feeling these days? You seem to be mending very quickly and it sounds like you're keeping busy.

linda, that is just lovely. i took a stained glass class a few years back at the adult school. i only made a few things, but nothing that comes close to your caliber of expertise. what a wonderful talent!
