Sharon, you're right. If I had the usual snowfall, which we measure in feet, exercising the horses is much more difficult. I'm very lucky right now.

OK, Karen, when Ron comes to shoe him, I'll take pictures. He's going to get "heels" of a short, a heart/bar shoe with a built up heel. Wedgies, of a sort. LOL

That will make him walk on his toes, the way a horse is supposed to.

Ellen, that's "therapeutic" shoes. (grin) My horses usually go "barefoot" in the winter because I don't ride them out on hard surfaces. His shoes will also need grips so he doesn't slip and fall in the snow and ice, if we get any this year.

Karen, not THAT wedgie. Sheesh. Remember those wedge soled shoes we wore in the 70s? THAT kind of wedgie. (snicker)

hehe Annie! I bought a pair of 'wedgies' recently. Apparently they are making a coming back! Only these are not as high as I remember the ones from the 70's.

I can't wait to see Cope in his new shoes, all prancing around and shaking his hinny!

Ann, I sure am relieved. For a day or so he was so bad I was afraid I'd have to have him put down. Fortunately he's not a performance horse, all he has to do is carry children around, go on trail rides with me and not be in pain every day.

LindaC, just imagine getting your toenails ripped off and you'll have a good idea of how he feels, the poor baby.

Ricky is doing his time at hard labor. Dad decided his punishment because I just wanted to beat the h*ll out of him. Instead he's been cleaning the pen that Copenhagen was using in the barn, he's doing grooming and tack cleaning, and he's doing all the chores that I usually do because now I'm using that time to work the horses.

He's getting worked hard enough that he'll think before he takes the easy way out again but I still don't trust him to feed my horses.....

Good to hear the young man is having to pay for his mistake although surely giving Copenhagen the wrong food would have been an unintentional error. Or maybe he just wasn't listening when he ws told about the food.

BTW way you probably didn't do anything wrong in your photo. It looks like the camera metered the bright light reflecting off the white snow, making the horse look too dark by comparison. Next time zoom in a little and try not to get much snow or sky in the photo. If you have a SPOT metering option on your camera use that, and it will take a light reading just from the horse in the centre of the photo and not be thrown off by the white ground.

Thanks, Sharon. My little camera doesn't have a zoom while you take a picture, but after it's taken you can increase the size. I can't get it to stay bigger when it's loaded on the computer though. I could step a little closer, as long as I don't get hung up in the rope.

No spot metering either, as far as I know. There is an automatic setting, I can turn the flash on or off and I think that's about it. Maybe it would be better with the flash off, although it didn't flash. I'll have to keep trying.

As for Ricky, he didn't know that the alfalfa was going to make the horse that sick, but he had specifically been told not to feed that hay to the animals. It was on the hay floor instead of up in the mow and was easy to get to, so that's what he fed them, but there was no way he could mix it up, it was stored separately. The punishment is fitting, I guess, he tried to do it the easy way and now is being repaid by a lot of extra work. I'll be filling the hay feeders from now on, though.
