WANTED: This was so cool...

Now I know I'm ahead of the game but as my last batch of cookies just arrived, I thought this was a fitting time, for me at least (lol) to send out my thanks to Sharon and Alexa for organizing this exchange, and to Diane, Lyndaluu, Sherry, Alexa, and Lori for all my wonderful cookies.

My entire family will be thanking all of you at Christmastime, as well!

And most importantly, so will dear old Santy Claus - for Christmas eve, we will leave some of these out for him to gobble up so he has enough energy to finish his travels. Poor guy, last year, I think I left him store bought cookies...

We're just hoping he even bothers to stop here this year...

If anyone sees him, will you put a bug in his ear that we have some REAL cookies for him this year?

I agree with Stacy! This has been great. I have almost all of my cookies and it looks like almost everyone on my list has mine. I can't wait to put together my cookie tray. Santa will be lucky if there is one left for him! LOL
I think he will make it.....I made him a whole tin full of brittle!

This does look fun. Maybe I'll learn to bake before next year's exchange, LOL. All I know now is oatmeal and PB cookies!

Oh cool! I've seen parasitic wasp pics on tomato horn worms (evil...evil horn worms), and always wanted to see them in my yard. They seem to look more like sacs hanging from the worm. Was this one stuck to that mass of yellowy eggs?. I saw ladybugs on my plum trees with lots of aphids. Go ahead aphids- have your fun now you little SOB's. Your day is quickly approaching ;)

Hi Linda! We just found a Tiger Swallowtail caterpillar in our backyard and I was thinking of you and all of your Black Swallowtail caterpillars. We've studied up on him a little and found that they love most of the tree leaves in our yard! So he's set up in a huge old lizard tank that my brother left here from our garage sale. Some in my group just don't get the whole pic thing yet, but they love the food! Ann, I agree, it was great talking to you! Sherry, if you ever want some more HC just let me know. "Reply to solargary...I took a look at my 'cracked' windows in relation to the return air vents and had an A-Ha moment. I also threw another blanket over the house fan in the attic. Is there some kind of special blanket or material that can be thrown over attic protruberances to deal with heat loss? I thought about sacrificing my best down comforter to the job but decided it might be better used on my bed." I have a whole house fan also, and built up a box around its perimeter made from 2 inch thick rigid foam board. In the winter I put a lid on this box also made from 2 inch foam board, and put a couple of rocks on it to make sure it seals down to the foamboard edges (high tech eh). I then throw some batt insulation over that. The foam board box seals up the whole fan in the box, and also keeps loose fill insulation out of the fan area. Another notorious leak area is the hatch to the attic. I've seen studies that concluded that a large part of the total attic heat loss can come from a leaky hatch. For other penetrations (like wiring, plumbing, can lights), I raked away the existing loose fill insulation, then used the polyurethane foam in a can (eg Great Stuff) to seal all the gaps. Its a bit messy, but easy. You have to be a bit careful insulating around can lights if they are not approved for direct insulation contact. For the problem of increased depth of loose fill blocking the soffit vents, they make thin foam board "chutes" that you staple up the roof sheathing before putting in more loose fill. The chutes keep an air channel open. Home Depot type places sell them. Bushleague -- I'm also a big fan of the Onset loggers -- I'm up to 3 of the 4 channel ones (don't tell my wife :). Gary

Been thinking about this exchange, I loved every minute of it, but I think we can improve on it.

Maybe next year we should start way earlier and the deal should be freezer friendly cookies, which most are anyhow.

That way we could avoid two things, the delays in the postal system due to Christmas rush and give us a bit of a break on our busy holiday schedules. I, for one, was freaking out trying to get the cookies out on time but not too soon...didn't matter the postal system held them up! LOL

I loved this sharing, the tins and the treats, the notes, the anticipation, it really has made the season special. How bad can it be getting a tin of cookies from my friends every day for a week!

Any ideas on how we can make this an even more wonderful experience gladly acccepted.

Chase, I agree earlier would be better. If this was earlier I might take part, actually I might next year anyway. Freezer or just shelf stable. I have made biscotti before and been amazed at how long they were good for. No surprise I guess, they are like a stale cookie right out of the oven.

Also maybe folks could choose how many people they want to send to. Send out to 3 people and receive form 3 etc. That way it would make it more manageable and affordable for all. I for 1 have really enjoyed watching this one. Although who knows if my keyboard will ever recuperate from the puddles of drool. LOL

I had fun with it too. The timing didn't bother me because we delivered on a Monday and the weekend is always a busy baking time for me anyway. Earlier might work better, though, because I know a dozen of my cookies are still floating out there somewhere. It's just such a busy time for mailing.

I'm beginning to wonder if they've been eaten by some delivery person or they'll be too stale by the time they get to their destination to eat.

I want to thank everyone for making this first exchange a success! Yes, there may have been a couple of hiccups, but over all, I think everyone had a good experience!

I had to sit this one out even though I love to bake. I just knew I would run into time problems and the last thing I wanted to do was to let anyone down. So I just sat here and drooled too.
It would be great to try it earlier and then the recipes and pictures would be timely for those who want to make the cookies on their own for the Holidays. Maybe having everything sent before Thanksgiving would work?
Heck....I love cookies ALL YEAR!

Next time I wanna do it too!

And what about opening it up to candy OR cookies? Many candies will keep better than cookies and not get stale.
