WANTED: Your favorites are now my favorites!

I received my wonderful swap package today, on my birthday, which makes it even more special! Thank you so much for sharing your favorites with me, Teresa. I couldn't post earlier as I was out shopping for a new computer....the old one died a slow death.

I couldn't wait to rip into the box. Teresa sent a nice note and labeled everything with her reasons why each was her favorite. I almost forgot to take pictures of the nicely wrapped favorites.

The first items were 100% cotton dishcloths and some beautiful flour sack towels, all locally made. They go great in my kitchen. There was also tucked in with them a Bert's Bees lip balm (which I immediately used as my lips have been dry)

The next item I opened was a jar of Amish Wedding Red Sweet Pepper Relish, which looks delicious and will be tried tomorrow.

Last, but certainly not least, a beautiful small baking dish made by a local potter, in my favorite color, green. The photo does not do justice to the baking dish. Teresa also included a recipe for baked brie. I will be trying it soon.

Teresa, thank you again and I will think of you each time I use one of your favorites.

How lovely, and on your birthday, that's great. The dish is great as well as the towels. And I see a recipe for baked brie?? Enjoy them all, Marigene.

I guess Godiva Chocolates are my favorite candy for the occasional chocolate fix. Sees Candy has gone way downhill too except for a few classic items. Their stores are full of candy bar type stuff and they got rid of Sugar Sticks!!!. Now, they still make them because they are still put in the boxes for holidays. But you can't buy them alone anymore. You have to buy a box of stuff you don't want to get 2 or 3 of them. I like Russell Stover candy at the drugstore. All my old favorites have been reformulated or changed. UNO bars are no longer much different from a Three Muskateer. Annabel took the middle layer of chocolate out the Rocky Road bar. Hershey's has recently change their chocolate Kiss formula also. Probably think we won't notice by introducing all the silly different varieties but people did. Even Lifesavers messed up their flavors. It will be just like what happened to hamburgers *sigh*. A whole generation of kids grew up on McD's so they think In and Out or Sonic are something special. LOL I still like Swedish Fish. But only the original red ones. The multi-colored ones are just wrong.

gs-I saw GVF in a smaller theater venue last month-and I just know that the next time they come to my town they're going to be in a much bigger venue. I'll pay the price for their tickets-I just love them. I was thrilled to see so many over 50's in attendance. Have you heard The Struts? They opened for the Foo Fighters this past tour and just released their 2nd album. Got to do a M&G with them this summer, also. They're very fun.

Lars I hope you get to try true chestnuts. They are a pain to shell but then the delicious flesh can be used in many ways. Using them for savoury dishes including chestnut soup and chestnut stuffing for chicken. Using them for sweets is my favourite and are mainly French based. With sweets you can use the cans of slightly sweetened puree… French Imported are the best. There is Mont Blanc which is a delicious slightly sweetened chestnut puree formed like vermicelli. Also chestnut mousse. My favourite are the Marron Glace - candied chestnuts. The imported from France boxed ones are better than the ones in a jar. Also adding that you can buy Unsweetened cans of chestnut puree as well and the trick is to read the french label and not buy the wrong one. Hah! ask me how I know.

I feel for you so much! I bet you know all I'm about to say, but I'll say it so you can see it. If you're doing an elimination diet, you're much better off doing it right the first time. That is, truly eliminate with no cheats all the suspect foods. It's a dead bore, crazy making and screws up your normal life, but if you felt fine it wouldn't be an issue. You CAN do this. Maybe you need to have a tapering down time. Of course don't go radical until you hear what the doctor has to say. Just remember, the doctors hear so many "I can'ts" that they may give in when they really want to shout at you that you need to do this to feel better. The trick is, cut out everything potentially bad. Give your body time to heal on the highly restrictive diet, however unfun and uncomfortable that may be. For other things, it can be as short as 6 weeks, but your doctor should have a number in mind. Then, once you're pretty well as healed from the "bad" foods as you're going to get, add in one eliminated food and see if it's okay. Then set it aside, wait awhile and try the next, repeating until all have had their chances. Then add back two at a time to see if they pair up to be "bad". It's a total bore, but it works. If you're not going to do the whole thing, there's little point in doing part. I had a friend who did that, and she was perpetually deprived because she wasn't really eliminating the baddies from her diet, just giving it a lot of lip service and a half-hearted wave. In your case, before clearing more out of the kitchen, I'd look for a few things that you can for sure have and see what you can make out of them to replace the eggs that you eat when you can't think of what else. Make sure there's some nutrition similarity, and that what you invent tastes good. Then start tapering off actual eggs. Without soy and nuts, I don't know how you're going to find a good dairy substitute. Avocadoes might be a good sub for cream cheese on toast, and might be satisfying, but they're not cheese. Pâté , maybe?

Teresa you had perfect timing having your gift arrive on Marigene's birthday. And what a nice gift. I love cotton flour sack teatowels and the pottery dish is cute. I love the artichoke painting.

Well...I am very surprised that you got the package on Saturday, Marigene! I thought it would be Monday at best. Good work, USPS!

That's the kind of towels my mom use to use and swore they were the best. And she use to make sweet pepper relish too. I haven't had some in years. And such a pretty aritchoke plate. Very nice gifts.

How perfect that it ended up as a Birthday present!

Those dishcloths are just great & flour sack towels are the best-- you'll have trouble going back to ever using terry cloth .

Pretty little baking dish too-- so versitile.

Very cute dish! I'm going to have to look for some of the small straight-sided dishes, they seem to come in very handy.

I like good kitchen towels and I don't think anyone ever has enough of them, and the artichoke dish is very cute, I'll be expecting to see it in some WFD pictures in the very near future.
