WANTED: Doucanoe's delightful package arrived!

Hello all,

Well, first I need to apologize for going MIA... my stepfather passed away November 1st, so I immediately flew out for the funeral and to support my family. I just returned home late Thursday night. I also came home to a note from the postmaster about an attempt to deliver a package... I headed down to the post office the next day and received a lovely package from Linda (Doucanoe). She even created a theme of her favourite things. Unfortunately, I'm not able to post the photo, and have emailed Ann for the favour. In the meantime I'll describe the goodies. Linda's theme was "wine and cheese" also a favourite of mine! I received a lovely bottle of Clos du Bois Shiraz, which I'm looking forward to enjoying with my DH (I started a cleanse today, so no alcohol or fun food for the next 12 days). The wait will be worth it!

The second item was a lovely glass cheese platter with different varieties of cheese appearing on the plate. I really love the curved handles and the flat design of this plate, one that will be put to regular use!

And finally a cheese tool set that any cheese master would be proud of! I love the smooth, simple design of the cheese tools and will also enjoy using these.

Linda claims she didn't cheat, but sent me a lovely magazine of her area. The magazine covers some lovely cafes and bakeries, and makes me crave sweets!

Very Nice, Linda! I love the cheese platter! and the cheese knives and forks. Of course, anyone who reads my posts knows I love wine! What a GREAT favorites and theme!

El, I don't think anyone who is a regular would think that? But who knows, I could be wrong as well? I just thought, like I said before he might pop on just to say it was him, he may get the urge to lurk for a min or two. Also had the thought that maybe we shouldn't jump to conclusions, automatically assuming it was Mike..I don't know if there is anyone else in on the SS who is from Arkansas, or not, but we could have been wrong about it being him..know what I mean? Didn't want to jump out there saying it was Mike, saying what a great SS he is, and then it NOT be him, ya know? I know it will prob be awhile before he's back again..but we can hope it will be sooner than later. I feel so bad about that situation. And for anyone who may think we are clicky..we're not :) lol

Yikes! I'm so sorry Janet! Having had a car totalled and a front porch damaged by hit-skip drivers, I'm always sympathetic by people who try to do the right thing and get nailed by the letter of the law. Admittedly, I've skated thru more than my share of mishaps. Just out of college, I got pulled over for going 45 in a 25mph zone. I explained to the cop that I'd come back from the Middle East and was having trouble with speed limits. He thought that was funny and let me off with a warning. Here in Columbus I was making a left turn on red (from a one-way street to a one-way street, perfectly legal.) But I wasn't watching and nearly hit a pedestrian. I was pretty shaken up, so when he started to yell at me I yelled back. He backed down and told me to be more careful in the future -- it wasn't until I was three blocks away that I realized the guy was a uniformed cop -- and we'd been right in front of police headquarters. A few years ago in July I was driving behind an SUV on a narrow downtown street with construction. The driver was on a cell phone and weaving back, and I felt very morally vindicated when a motorcyle cop pulled up behind us and turned the light on. Until I realized he was signalling me to pull over. With a sinking feeling, I realized my tags had expired on my birthday in January. (I apparently have issues with timeliness.) As I handed him my license I realized that my recently replaced license was also expired. I got my ticket and had to go to traffic court. (Renewed my tags and license before my day in court.) You sit for a few hours, then get 30 seconds with the attorney; sit back down and then get 30 seconds with the judge. The attorney said, because both had been expired six months, there would be a $250 fine and I would have to take the driver's test again. In the interlude before I went before the judge, I counted up on my fingers, and realized I had renewed 1 day short of six months. I explained that, took my $30 fine and was feeling pretty smug as I went out to my car. Where I found a $30 ticket on the windshield for an expired meter. If bad catches up with you, I think good should, too. Hope your lucky break catches up with you soon, Janet!

What a wonderful package! I remember those toast racks, altho' I think we ended up using it for napkins as well! The bar set is tres chic, and I love the regional foods. I think those are often the coolest part of swap packages, but they get a run for their money in this one!

The homemade marmalade is a terrific gift! I love the homemade jams/jellies/preserves/marmalades. The cookbook sounds like one I'd really enjoy. I'll have to check it out. The spice blend sounds great, too. I can's see the pix in the OP, but I see the bowl downthread. It's beautiful. Sure would like to see the kitty toy!! Enjoy your treats! Great job Marcia!

I like the cheese plate very much! So nice with a thick soft edge and would go with just about any decor too.

And the cheese serving set is just wonderful! I am so lacking in nice serving pieces.

Oddly enough Maryanne just suggested a Shiraz, so it is now on my holiday booze buy list!

Good job Linda! I know Catherine will put everything to good use too!

So sorry about your loss, Catherine.

Now that you're back home and getting caught up, I hope you can take a minute to sit and enjoy that wine.

I love the platter. Now that's something I bet you'll get alot of use out of.

Catherine, I'm sorry for your loss. it must have been nice to come home and find Linda's lovely swap box waiting for you.

I love the wine and cheese theme. And especially the "cheese tool kit". When you are ready to open the wine, you can have a little private wine and cheese party just for you and your DH.

Catherine, so sorry for your loss. I hope you are getting back to some normalcy after a sad trip.

Glad the box finally arrived! Did I send a Shiraz? I thought I grabbed a Pinot Noir. Oops! Well, I love all the wines of this vintner, I am sure you'll like it. Hope you will be able to put the plate and tools to good use, too!

It was fun putting together this package for you. I am so glad you like my favorite things!

Catherine, Very sorry for your loss. It's a nice distraction to come home to a "good" surprise.

And what a lovely surprise! I love the theme idea and the items are just gorgeous. Even the card works with the theme. Enjoy the wine when you're able to.

What a lovely "hug" from a friend. to greet you when you returned.

That platter looks great, and the cheese tool set is impressive. (I didn't know there actually were "cheese tools"!)

Catherine, I'm sorry for your loss. I know that Linda was concerned at PFPP that you would receive the package in tack and timely. It appears that it was a needed pick-me-up. Linda described the platter, but it is nicer that I imagined.

So sorry Catherine to hear of your loss. I am glad you were able to come home to a happy pick me up. The glass cheese platter is beatiful, as are the knives. The wine sounds wonderful, you will have to let us know how it is.

I'm not quite sure how I missed this one, I knew I was missing at least one.

Catherine, I want to send my sympathies regarding your stepfather, I hope coming home to Linda's nice package made a small bright spot for you.

That plate is really nice and could be used for so many things. The cheese tools are interesting too, I never knew there were so many tools that could be used with cheese!
