Diane, sent me a cocoa~latte drink machine. She states she loves hers..and figured if I didn't like it the boys would get good use out of it. She's soooooooo right...they've been nuking milk and mixing in Nesquick lately. LOL They'll be so thrilled..I'm sure I'll never get to use it for Chai!

~but the funniest bit..Diane, thought I might not like it so sent the receipt and a print out of all the stores nearest my zip code. LOL

DIANE, I'm NOT taking it back!!! But thanks for the extra effort!

She sent a spoon rest, It's a fancy one, with a removeable ceramic dish with a little flower shop painting in the bowl. I have a make shift spoon rest, but it's not the right shape, so thinks "flip" out of it all the time! This is the real deal!

And the last, but not least was 5, FIVE! adorable green scalloped edge dishes. She wasn't sure if the color would match..and she again was second guessing herself..

I hope this photo, proves she shouldn't have..

That's my favorite counter piece of green ceramic! I usually use it as a fruit dish!

Wow, Diane DID match that green perfectly, didn't she? What a great job and those little dishes are so cute, one for each of you.

A Cocoa-latte? I've never even heard of it, but I'm sure you'll send the boys off to school and use it for Chai, eventually. LOL

A spoon rest? Now that's something everyone needs and so many are awkward sizes and shapes, a good one is worth it's weight in brillo pads!

Well Annie, #1 son came in to see me washing it up..He's just finished off HIS first 16oz of cocoa...LOL!
It's certainly a nifty thing!

George, I bet you're right, but I hate going out on a limb like that. Merton, I thought maybe I could find a comparison of the cucurbita seeds that would help you, so I checked my copy of Suzanne Ashworth's book SEED TO SEED: SEED SAVING AND GROWING TECHNIQUES FOR VEGETABLE GARDENERS and here is how she describes them: Cucurbita maxima: Thick seeds that are white or tan or brown with cream colored margins and thin cellophane coatings. (As George pointed out, your Lakota is a maxima so should fit this description.) C. moschata seeds are small, oblong and beige with a dark beige margin. (Your butternut is a moschata so one of your two solid tan types of seed ought to match this description.) C. pepo seeds are cream-colored and each has a white margin. Your acorn squash is a pepo so its seed should match this description. The problem is that your spaghetti squash is a pepo also, so its' seeds ought to match this description too. C. agyrosperma (formerly mixta) seeds would be the easiest to identify because they usually have small cracks in them. (They are described as white or tan with a pale margin and cracks in the skin coat on the flat sides of the skins which are covered with a thin cellophane covering.) None of the squash in your packet are agyrosperma types though. If you have specific variety names for your spaghetti, butternut, acorn and Lakota squashes, you probably could google and find descriptions of each squash, including the approximate size of the mature squash and that size might help you figure out which of your pepo seeds is which. Or, you might e-mail the seed company and see if they can tell you, by description only, which seed is which variety. Dawn

Our first home had a small opening between the kitchen and family room. There was also enough room in the kitchen for a small table to seat 2. The pros of this arrangment is that the mess in the kitchen was not visible and the noise was somewhat contained. The con was that during parties/gatherings-everyone ended up in the kitchen no matter how much we tried to get them out to hang out in the family room or dining room. The dining room was never used except as a dumping room. The house we rented while building had completely separate rooms. There was not even an eat in space in the kitchen. I hated this arrangment. Everything felt too choppy. It didn't work for a family with a young child. Our new home has one really big room. The cons have been mentioned- the kitchen mess is visible by all. But it has forced me ot be neater. And if designed properply, there are way to contain the mess. Also noise is sometimes a problem if one person is cooking and someone else is trying to watch tv. We almost never watch tv during the day so it's not a frequent problem. Having the dining room between the kitchen and family room creates somewhat of a buffer. The pros-it suites our lifestyle. We are prefer casual living and entertaining. All of our family live out of town and we have lots of people staying with us frequently. It's nice ot able to be together but have space to spread out. Plus I'm a women, but I love th NFL so it's awesome on Sundays.

I have Norton waterstones, 1000 and 4000 grit, and use them on my Henckel's and carbon steel knives. There are numerous YouTube videos out there on technique, but I learned most of what I know about knife sharpening from the Cheftalk website, which harbors fanatics on the subject. I've never used oilstones...they seem unnecessarily messy...nor have I tried a strop. The Chef's Choice sharpens well but removes a lot metal, so I use that on my ''throw-away'' knives. We have a lakeside summer home with lots of guests, and knives are frequently abused or lost. I can't bother with expensive knives and time-consuming sharpening there. I just use a steel for ''touch-ups'', which tells me I really need to get busy and actually sharpen the knives. This all works for me, but I don't own any Japanese knives that require different sharpening angles. I know Chef's Choice now makes a sharpener with adjustable angles that some people like. I've been rethinking the practice of washing knives by hand. I've always been told, and believed, that it's evil to put knives in the DW basket because they bang around and that dulls the edges. However, I now think maybe they're safer in the slots in the plastic top cutlery rack than they are in my soapy hands over a granite sink. And DW detergents are much less noxious now than previously. So, assuming the handles are impervious to DW's, is it safe to put knives in the DW now? I don't know but would be interested to hear others' opinions.

John, I wonder if you were an Italian grandma in a previous life? Many Italians in the North End of Boston where my DH grew up had second kitchens in their homes. They had tiny little sweet Nonnies (grandma) that wore aprons and pinched your cheeks. The 2nd kitchen was so the rest of the home would not overheat with all the cooking. But I believe it was for another reason, let me explain. My husband's Nonnie had a kitchen in the basement. And boy oh boy if you went down their uninvited you would get your ear pulled. It was her private space to roll out pasta, stir heated sauces, canned tomatoes, store her back patio garden grown tomatoes, onions and basil, and that basement was her retreat from the family drama. If someone showed up to dinner unannounced, no worries Nonnie had pasta in the freezer, Risotto ready to go, or a cheese that was for company. She would magically appear laided with food to make them feel welcome. Sometimes Nonnie would spend time with a sister or daughter. They would cook, laugh, cry, delight in each other's company but mostly it was for his Nonnie only. Her 2nd kitchen was her escape from the familial drama and place to enjoy her passion for cooking. Not really the heat. It was more than keeping the heat out of the city brownstone. Sometime if you were lucky Nonnie would invite you to help her but this was rare. My husband only in his 40s still remembers his nonnie rolling out Gnocchis in different containers so each one of his aunts, uncles and adult cousins could take them home. She made special meatballs for this uncle who wanted only pork and this one who wanted raisins in his and this Aunt who wanted small ones. Everyone was spoiled with food. It was her way to express her love to her family. I wish you could build a 2nd kitchen for yourself. One with giant locks, bolts and secret codes that only those truly worthy could enter. They would bring you joy while you cook and not interupt or destroy the magic you need to create amazing dishes. When we do entertain, ( i am not the chef you are) I am one of those people who pre-cooks. I know this is terrible. I make the lasagna hours before so only have to bake it, or have DH grill while my accompanyments are simple. Otherwise the interuptions and chatty kattys drive me batty. Those ramekins are as perfect a match for your kitchen as my salt box from Beverly is for mine. She must be clarvoyiant too! And the spoon reat is always needed and the machine appears to be perfect for your house. Good job.

oh i just love it all. the green bowls/dishes/ramekins are just excellent. i have to get me some of them. what a perfect match.

everything is wonderful. isn't it so great when the rest of the family gets in on the items and enjoys them just as much (if not more LOL) great job diane. enjoy it all terri!

Everything was beautifully wrapped. I will have to find that cocoa~latte drink machine. I would love one of those drinks with all this cold weather lately. I love the spoon rest. Very pretty and practical. Wow - the bowls match perfectly! Nice swap.

I have the "Back to Basics" hot chocolate maker and I, too, LOVE IT! It heats to the perfect temp and then automatically shuts off and then starts up again when the beverage cools. It's perfect for parties or when the kids get home from school. It will also foam the beverage if you want...I like mine foamed! I already used mine twice this year! Last year for St. Patrick's Day I made White Hot Chocolate tinted green and bumped with brandy and it was a huge hit.

The little scalloped dishes are so cute and just the right size for a side, salad or even mini pizzas. Love that shade of green!

I keep several spoon rests around my kitchen and can always use another one!

Diane, regardless of the theme you always come up with the best gifts for your partner. So much thought goes into everything you send. I love the hot chocolate maker. Something for the whole family to enjoy. And you couldn't have done a better job of matching the colour of Terri's fruit bowl.
