WOW!!!!! Aptosca really shared some great favorites!!

Oh, boy! After the nor'easter last weekend, what a nice surprise last night to find an incredible swap package from Clare / Aptosca!

Sorry Clare that you had to reach out to Ann to find out where it was. I know FedEx said it was, but I really don't think it was on the porch over the weekend! but thank you, Ann for being such a good moderator for our swaps, It's in the house and safe now! (also, I couldn't access Gardenweb over the weekend... what's with that?)

For your first swap, you sure hit a home run with me!! I hope these really are your favorite things, because they sure fit my theme!!

Apologies that the pictures are so big. I know with some research I could learn to resize them, but I want to get this posted NOW!

First, here's a picture of the all the elements of the swap package:

I love the wrapping paper on Friendship! Very elegant! (and look at the Magazine on Aptosca's home area... I love reading about "local" stuff... as Brenda55 found out when she sent me a local mag in another swap!

Then, ohhh.... Fresh from the garden! I'm jealous! I've always wanted a lemon tree... and meyer lemons. They look soooooo good! I plan to use the microplane I got in another swap on at least one of them. (and the lavender is making my house smell GREAT).

Then I started opening the packages...

What a PERFECT book for me. Not only all the cocktail recipes, but all the information along with it. I started reading it last night. This book is AWESOME!!!! I think I'm going to ask my husband to make me a "White Lady"

Here's a pic of some of the additional information, and it's SO BEAUTIFUL. Look at these pictures!!

Next I opened the candles. I LOVE THEM!! I also keep candles around the house. These are just so fun, and such a nice "theme" in the shape of wine bottles, and the scents are great (autumn spice for the red, and pear for the white)...

The last thing I opened is incredible. Look at these coasters. Clay, and sturdy, and fabulous.

...and just to show you, I do collect wine stoppers (I drink more wine than DH, and I really don't drink a whole bottle everytime I open one!) I'm including this bonus pic! The bottle stopper that matches the coasters has it's place if pride in my swan bowl!

Clare, I can't thank you enough! I LOVE my swap. I'm so glad you participated in this one, and I hope you do it again!

Oh Elizabeth I so love your swap package! The book looks wonderful and informative. I really love those candles, I have never seen them before and now I am going to have to look for some, as they would fit so perfectly in my kitchen, lol. The coasters are beautiful as well. How nice to get some homegrown meyer lemons. I don't think I have ever had one so you will have to let us know how you liked them. Enjoy your wonderful package. Great shopping Clare!

I have quite a few roses -- all pink, my favorite. I know some of you have said this hot year wasn't good for roses, but mine thrived. Most of mine are hearty, non-fussy varieties. And they have all had amazing second flushes, so much better than hte last years. The blooms were over more quickly, tho... can't have it all. In the beginning of May -- normal time for planting bare roots here in northern CT, I planted a Grus en Aachen I got from Wayside Gardens. It leafed quickly and then began pumping out flowers -- amazing. I always loved this rose because it supposedly does well in shadier circumstances than other kinds. I counted about 30 buds on a new shoot yesterday. Truly remarkable. When I am better at posting photos I will show some of these perfect blooms. I wanted to mention that this amazingly floriferous rose came from Wayside Gardens, a company that I see has been having financial difficulties. There are so many bad -- I mean Horrible -- reviews of Wayside lately on other complaint sites that I felt I should give some credit where credit is due. It saddens me terribly, as most of the plants in my gardens are from either Bluestone or Wayside. These have always been my go-to places. As it has become more difficult for independent nurseries to compete with the big box stores, I feel it is important to continue buying from all different sources. So I can only say I wish them well.

Thanks everyone for your nice comments. I can hardly believe this but today I didn't take one photo. I had to get to work early, and when I got home this evening is was still 95, and I was to tired (or lazy) to make the effort. Early to bed tonight for sure. I did take a quick peak at some and they seemed to fair okay in these high temps, but still no rain. I am enjoying all your photos and my list is growing. Thanks again. Jane

Great pics everyone. I really love most of them, but here are a few of my fav's... Asiatics ff88 select and Sphinx .....someone said it may be something else but I like it either way. Sorry it's a little blurry Also like some of the tango's LA's Fangio and Royal Present Martagons Any that grow and bloom, I have a few now, but only a couple have bloomed so far. OT's I also like silk road and scheherazade. Orientals I like the fragrance, but really like the OT's for performance better. Species this one is a little unusual as it is a runner. Trumpets - White Henyri Now just need more ground so I can buy more......... Flora

Thanks, Alison, for posting these. I was just going to start a thread (in one of the forums, I'm not sure which would be most appropriate) because I wanted to see garden spaces with all the plants relatively low to the ground. And lo and behold, here are some beautiful ones! (Though not all of these are using shorter plants.) Please keep the beautiful photos coming!

The candles are fab and so unique!!! Love the bar book too...lots of drink mix books this time, must be the "season" is approaching!

And the coasters are too cool and you can never have enough coasters.

Very unique and well thought out box of goodies, Clare, you do a great job!

Yay! More booze! And what a lovely box. The packages are so pretty, homegrown meyer lemons? (envy) and lavender? Love the candles/coasters/stoppers as well. And, of course, the book.

White Lady:
Sophisticated Prohibition Era Cocktail

Ingredients:
1 1/2 Tbsp Gin
1 1/2 Tbsp Cointreau
1 1/2 Tbsp Lemon Juice

Directions:
Mix all ingredients and strain and pour into a Cocktail Glass.

Serves: 1

(this one has egg white, too)

I am glad it got there ok. I was worried with that hurricane coming your way. And I am pleased you are pleased. Now I know what a White Lady is too. And you can use the lemons to make it!

Oh yeah, homegrown lemons, and now Bizzo can make some of those lemon drop martinis!

The coasters are cool and those candles are very unique, I'll bet the ripe pear one smells really good.

So, how long can you leave a bottle of wine with a stopper before it's not good to drink any more? I figured you just had to drink the whole bottle, LOL>

I love the meyer lemons, those look really nice, and homegrown, too, I'm so jealous! I have one itty bitty meyer lemon growing for what must be a year. I'll have a martini with it in 2010! Enjoy your gifts, Bizzo, they are really great! Cool book and candles! Nice job, Clare!

Great theme! I pick meyer lemons from a tree in my DD neighborhood. The person that has the tree just lets them fall off and rot...Sigh! I promise you will enjoy them.
