The box is on its way South...hope it gets there safely..My first swap, and I hope my favorites are my swap buddies too!

Fossilnut....I live in upstate NY zone 4b so I'm quite familiar with cold. Whatever plant,bulbs or roots you plant in Washington state will have to be cold hardy. The list is too long but favorites are of course tulips, daffs, iris, campanula, shasta daisy, phlox, And of course Lilies. and a hundred others. If they are rated hardy to zone 5 or colder you can leave them in the ground. There will be no harm. Winter hardy plants/bulbs REQUIRE being frozen. If you plant winter hardy thing in pots you can leave those to get covered by the snow without harm. I leave mine right out in the yard in pots. By the way...the reason for planting Tulips, Lily and things like that deep is NOT to protect them from the cold. It is to protect the bulb from the heat of summer. If you toss a Lily on top of the gound and leave it all winter. When snow melts it will grow. Dahlias, Caladiums, etc you will need to dig up and store or take south with you. I rarely water my flowers ever. I let mother nature take care of her stuff. If we get 14 days with no rain I will put the hose out. Canadian Shrub Roses will do well in WA. May I suggest the climbing Rose "WILLIAM BAFFIN" rated to the bitter cold of zone 2A. I have 4 and the climb to 14 feet every year with absolutely NO CARE at all producing thousands of blooms per plant. Lovely Rose. You can easily plant enough winter hardy plants so that you will have color every day from March to October.

If you come through Spartanburg, check out Hatcher Garden & Woodland Preserve. It's not that big, so it doesn't take that long to tour, but has several picnic areas, so is a nice place to have lunch and only 2 miles off I-26 after taking I-26-East off I-85 (Follow I26-East about 5miles to the 3rd exit, Reidville Rd., S.C. 296), then you turn left, and it's 2.2 miles on the left. If you're taking 85 to Clemson, anyway, I see no reason to not make the little sidetrip and see where I spend some time volunteering. The only sad part is the streams aren't running right now as they're doing some water-garden renovation over the winter and I had a tour there Sunday and it looked nowhere near finished, but it's still nice, with winter jasmine, winter honeysuckle, Peggy Clarke flowering apricot and witch hazel all in bloom there right now (all four of those are in bloom in my yard, only about a 1.5 miles from Hatcher, right now, too, but only one of the four came from there, lol). Maybe the recently named TS Andrea, now off the coast of GA/FL, will give the firefighters some help. It is already raining along the coast, from Saint Simons to Jacksonville. Our daughter lives over on the south GA coast and she said the smoke had been terrible there, but the wind had changed and was now from the NE. Guess that's why the FL folks are seeing it. Maybe it be high enough in the atmosphere that those people don't have to breathe it, like so many in GA were forced to do.

Well I'm back from South Florida. It was HOT! Shaun, I swear I responded to your post. Thanks for the suggestion. We didn't get there this time but I think I'll be heading back down within the next year. We did get to Butterfly World. My daughter loved it. You're in an enclosure with butterfly's, and birds flying around you. A butterfly landed on my shoulder which was kind of neat. The kids wanted to do Miami's Metrozoo so we did. They have never been to a zoo before. They had a great time and would like to go back. Did I say it was HOT? They also wanted to do the Museum of Discovery and Science in Ft. Lauderdale. They enjoyed that a lot and it had AC for me. We did spend a couple of days at the beach. Our apartment was right on Hollywood's Broadwalk in a fairly quiet section. My dad does not do the beach so he stayed in the apartment and could see us from the window. My son also made me take him to a couple of music stores so he could play guitars the stores here don't carry. Thanks so much for the suggestions. The kids had a great time and I survived Florida in July. Can you tell I don't like the heat? Tracey

Now, Donna, you know I may have gone in a different direction..scrub brushes, sink cleaner, and Heloise's hints on keeping the kitchen clean! Because I do LOVE a clean kitchen...or maybe a very handsome house cleaning man..now that would be nice...

Hello! I'm in the South....and Carolina is a "finah" place to be in.....dishes? did someone mention dishes???? Just in case, I notified Sandy in the mail room that I would be on vacation Thursday afternoon and Friday. Going on a quilt retreat with my Quilting Forum friends! I hope it's meeeeee!

Hi Debbie, nope, not your box, but you are welcome here at the nut house!
Michelle, love those penguins! They have lots of energy, I need some. It is tiring going to the door every ten minutes to see if my box is there!
So it is Sat. Someone should be getting part of the swap. But I guess they have to wait to get the whole thing till Monday!
