Susie Sent Sunshine and Lemons!

I was gone all day today, actually had a very productive couple of days, and when I finally got home I found a box waiting for me! I hurriedly closed up the barns for the night, fed the animals, let the dog out, let the dog in, fed the dog and then methodically made myself my late afternoon latte and then and only then it was time to open the box!

Inside the box were many, no several, no wait a minute ONLY 3 items. Oh yes that's right only 3 items in categories as such.

Category 1: For the table: Bright, round sunshiny yellow placemats with matching, acrylic divided plates.

Category 2: From the kitchen to the table: Yellow lemon serving tray with 4 acrylic, covered-in-lemons glasses and 4 matching lemon coasters. The serving tray can also be used as a appetizer tray and then use the coasters as plates, I thought this was pretty cool that they could pull double duty. I already tried it as a tray and it worked great with the glasses so I think I will use it as a tray.

Category 3: For a nice quiet day: The coolest cookbook, "Basic Cooking" by Sabine Salzer and Sabastian Dickhaut. I love this cookbook! It is very basic but just glancing through it I realized I've forgotten so much and do need a primer which I don't have. The chapters are laid out in 2 ways: Part 1 KNOW - HOW and Part 2 THE RECIPES. Some of the chapters are Smart shopping; Cool Basics; Rapid Boiling; Roasting and Braising; The Fantastic 14. For Part 2; Pasta, potatoes & more; The lowdown and The recipes; Meat; The lowdown and The recipes and so forth. Very simple and basic but very straightforward and an easy read. Plus there are many tips all highlighted with bright yellow lemons! The recipes actually look pretty good too!

The Stealth Category for HSO (his stomach only): Snacks for my husband! Chocolate Covered Lemons, Entenmann's Pop'ems (lemony glazed donut holes, DH's favs) and I think Polish?? lemon Jello.

These swaps amaze me! Anyone who does not know we are still in construction on our home and although we moved into the master bedroom and no longer share the bathroom with my crews, which was a nightmare, we still have so much work to do!! But we did begin our exterior room last week and the structure is basically done and the stone floor is being installed next week. But I've been thinking that I should pick up some acrylic plates and serving pieces as I don't like the idea of china shattering on a stone floor! And I am just tickled that Susie sent me exactly what I needed and so cute too with all the lemons. And DH, who has already eaten all the donuts, says Thanks too!

I love everything and thank you ever so much for your thoughtful generosity.

Very nice....so bright and summery. I really like the tray and the coasters/dishes. I'll have to check out that book...I'm always looking for basic how-to cookbooks for my library. Chocolate lemons....mmmm....

Thanks, Maria! I'll keep watch on my mail very closely! Now I'm very excited! :-) Engy - Welcome to the forum! With the best of conditions and culture, Hippeastrum take about 2 or more years from seed to flower. Pollinating them and creating different crosses is a lot of fun... as for what the next generation will look like, that will depend on how the genetics set up. There are some interesting and informative posts here in the forum about crossing, and if you do a search, you'll have lots of good reading material. Keep following along, and you'll see how several of us make our crosses and harvest the resulting seed. When it's time to pollinate my flowers, I'll try to take some photos.

Howdy Reda, Do you ever order on Ebay? I was checking available fertilizers..tomato for one..They sell organic tomato foods..But there's so many to choose from. They're all a bit different, too. For instance Cave's Famous tomato fertilizer is 4-7-3 Nectar Tomato is 2-1-4 Agloflash which is non-organic is 4-6-8.. NPK, (N) Nitrogen, (P) Phosphate, (K) Potash.. I wonder if you'd do better w/a Palm fertilizer. One seller on Ebay, sells a palm food called Sunniland. 8-6-6 Nitrogen is important for citrus growth. For instance, my citrus fertilizer is 12-6-8 Notice there is a higher amount of Nitrogen? There are a few more palm foods, a couple palm spikes, which are, IMO, a waste of money and of no use to plants. They also sell citrus food, unfortunatly, most are spikes..Sunniland sells one that sounds excellent..there's also an organic citrus food called, Citrus-Tone by Epsoma. I would imagine shipping charges would be outrageous... Why not go to www.gardenwatchdog.com ? On the left side of screen, click UK. They'll list a good number of nurseries. You can narrow a search by typing 'citrus fertilizers', or just 'fertilizer' plus get feedback regarding the nursery. Do you have Home Depots that-a-way? I stopped there today, and noticed 'Osmocote' had Palm and several other fertilizers. They also had a Palm food that said good for citrus, but I can't recall which brand.. LOL If you see scale, and want an organic, then Fish Emulsion is for you..do I not sound like an ad? LOL..In fact, today I fertlized and Superthrived citrus, hibiscus, etc..As I approached my Olive tree, I noticed it had scale..darn it!! Tomorrow, I am going out w/my mister filled w/FE and water..It's getting a good spray..Had problems w/this Olive tree before..and of course it was sitting adjacent citrus so they'll get a good spray, too..I swear, that plant must be a scale magnet.. Oh Lord, I've no idea how you'd make home-made citrus food..I'm sure somewhere here on GW somebody has posted recepies for fertilizers...Don't forget not only would you need something to cover NPK but minerals also..Iron, mag, etc..lol Oh I scrolled up and noticed Rhizo mentioned Epsom Salts..if you have it lying around, give a shot to your tree. (and other plants, too) Have you ever tried rubbing alcohol and cotton balls to rid scale? It'd probably work if a plant has few scale.. Don't feel bad about the rain and cold..this last wk, I'd say it's the worse summer in years..cold, rainy and drab..Cold to me is anything under 70F degrees..Today was nice..sunny and warmer..Hope it stays warm or even warmer.. Once the sun comes out, soil gets a chance to dry out, a dose of proper fertilizer is used, and rid ALL scale, your citrus should do fine. In the meantime, I'd use your house plant fertilizer, until you decide what to do or order another type. I also hope you get your lemon to bloom/fruit..but remember, it needs sun to set buds/fruit. Glad it's so popular :-) Colleen's Dead Easy Microwave Lemon Butter 4 oz butter 3/4 cup lemon juice (about 3 large or six small lemons) 1 cup sugar 4 eggs Peel yellow rind from lemons and reserve. Cut off white pith from lemons, halve them and remove any seeds. Place lemon flesh into blender and whiz into juice (should be more than 3/4 cup due to being fluffy). Add reserved rind to juice and whiz until finely ground. Place juice/rind mixture, sugar and butter into a largish microwave safe bowl. Microwave on high for 3 minutes, stirring halfway through. Meanwhile whiz eggs in the blender until thoroughly beaten (this eliminates any white stringy bits). Whisk eggs into mixture and microwave a further 5 minutes, stirring every minute, until thick. Cool and pour into sterilised jars. Store in refrigerator after opening. Makes 4 to 5 medium sized jars. If you overcook it and it separates (much nicer than "curdles" :-) ), beat another egg and stir in, cook a little longer.

Kelley, I will need to look up that ZB lemon. Good to hear it is pushing out some growth. Yes, if I ever have the chance to visit Italy I would love to visit his lemon groves and have a good chat with him. Laura, you are welcome. I hope you and the family are having a great summer. It is flying by pretty fast. I am going to try that recipe soon, my kitchen is being used daily for processing and canning lots of produce from the garden. I agree, the Santa Teresa Lemon has great flavor, I had to cut back branches on both trees this spring due to scale. One tree has a few nice looking, small lemons on it that I hope hold on through the winter. I dug my Bearss up and put it back into a pot. It was planted too close to a door and during the winter when the door opened the tree got a blast of cold air and it did not like it, dropped it's fruit.. I gave it a trim and it currently has tiny lemons. It is outdoors now but it will be moved upstairs on the balcony to get full sunshine and brought in before we get frost. I am really looking forward to getting lemons off of this variety. Meyer is only so-so for me. Vladimir, that book looks like something I would enjoy very much. I will try to see if our local library will be able to order it and get it in sometime during the winter months when I have a bit more time to relax and read, along with a good cup of tea. :)

'Category'? I haven't seen that term from the time of the regular, non-restricted swaps! LOL!

I love those lemon plates. I've seen a lot of pretty things in melamine (I assume those are melamine). Very coordinated package, and just right for you, Michelle!

Jessy, It's a time warp thing! I defer to Maryanne who only sees ONE set of items!

My cabinet makers are coming over later this afternoon to finally tie up some loose ends and I am serving lemonade in my new glasses.

But, very nice cheat Susie. Very colourful. Love the matching tray and coasters. And the glasses will be perfect for a nice cool refreshing glass of lemonade.

Those coaster/plates are really cute and so are the glasses.

Of course, I love anything with lemon so I think this is one great darned package (even though I agree with Ann T and think that Susie blatantly cheated, although in the nicest way, LOL)

It all started with the book which gave me my theme LEMONS!!
I thought "how summery"!
Since some of your house is a work in progress I thought some casual items would work best for you now and the bright colorful designs would be a cheery addition.
I honestly thought the tray would be perfect to serve lemon bars!!

To my defense, I considered the table top items to count as one since you "could" call it a set LOL!!
Aw heck...it was all so darn cute and affordable and I could not resist LOL!!
