WANTED: Brown cardboard packages tied up with tape

Well it's only one package, but the song says packages. My swap box is on its way to the wild blue yonder! Here's a hint: it's NOT going east, so that leaves out everyone in South Jersey and the Atlantic Ocean, due east of Philadelphia.

Should arrive in 3 - 7 business days. I hope it's three, or at least this week. I'm so happy it's oudda here. I hope everything makes it in tact. This is such fun.

Pam, I know the feeling, my package is out for delivery today..so excited. Here is my hint: the state has grass and trees. heheheheh...

My goodness, it could be me! There are plenty of trees and grass in PA.

Renee, you must be checking the tracking number every five minutes. I know I will be once it gets closer to the optimal delivery date!

i will periodically compost shredded paper... phone books... cardboard, etc if i need some dry brown materials... but as others note.. soy inks aren't completely "eco-friendly" to 100%. A very small portion of the inks and the coatings are composed of non-eco friendly based materials. So if you want to be a 100% organic stickler... you should recycle it if you have the ability vs route to your garden. The benefits i would think still outweigh the sliver of negatives... as many things in life are. I opt to recycle as much as possible since many of the printed items (not counting newsprint and phonebooks type media) you receive have an aqueous coating on them... which isn't like the high gloss stuff... but non-the-less isn't good for the ground.

I just checked my pile two days ago (one week after putting it all together) and have some updates: 1) Despite hosing the thing down thouroughly last week, it still dried out. Darn heat wave. 2) I didn't shred the cardboard enough. Shredding cardboard sucks. 3) The glue didn't seem to have attracted any insects, although this could have been also due to the ant colony that was expanding into the compost bin. The bin is next to my shed and I have declared war on the ants that live there. (I won round one a few weeks ago with the garden hose, but they are currently winning round two.) 4) Despite being fairly dry, the temperature was at 130, so I am pleased. 5) I turned it, stirred it up (take that, ants), and added some greens and shredded wood chips (free mulch from the county) and hosed it all down as I went. 6) As I turned it, I noticed that some of the grass was clumping and sticking together with white moldy stuff. There was also the same white moldy, stringy stuff on some of the cardboard. Something must be working right... I'll let everyone know of any new changes when I go back next week.

Certainly if cardboard is your thing you can get all you want at places like wallmart. I see stacks of it on carts and all I have to do is ask for it. But a lot cardboard is not my thing. I will use some but much more newsprint as it is just easier to handle. As opposed to some others I do add peat to mine as I always have a lot on hand as I use it for plant mixes sometimes. I prefer it over coir as with coir I always find long strands left that doesnt get used come harvest. I usually mix peat, newsprint, coffee grounds, compost, cardboard. But Im always adding newprint as a cover layer for added food.

Well, I'll have to check the garage when I get home but I sure don't see how anyone would get in. They always just leave it sitting on my front porch.

I guess I'll check anyway, just in case.....

No garage but a barn and my UPS driver knows better than to put something in there. I'll hit him. My mailman however puts packages in my truck and doesn't leave a note in the mailbox to let me know.

Okay -- I'm home. Giess what!! I still have trees, I still have grass, I still have a garage, but I DO NOT have a package from Renee.

The suspense continues. In the meantime I almost got killed at an intersection by some yahoo speeding down the road. I was going to pick up a chicken caesar salad, not rushing home to see if I got a prezzie!

Oh, Darn Pam!

My package says it was delivered today at 11:45 am. Post office tracking is not as good as UPS - no other info.

Also to a place with trees and grass;) Okay, I'll drop a big hint - a state that has two words!!

Since when is New York east of Philadelphia? Seems I always travel north to get there. Tee hee.

Bubbe, I swear I saw my life flash before my eyes. That other car missed me by millimeters. My family would have been wondering "what the heck is this package??" and I would not be there to tell them what's up. Whew.

My brown cardboard box made some major progress overnight. I hope it's on someone's doorstep tomorrow. It's darn close now.

Between checking this forum and the tracking info on the package, I am not getting a lot of work done.

And, like, you know, Long Guyland is Northeast of Philadelphia!

OKAY. PAY ATTENTION! Everyone in North America should stay home today and watch for a big brown truck. My swap box is in its destination city -- or small town -- or suburb -- or rural location -- or whatever.

After seeing some of the contents of the other boxes, I am wishing I could suck it back and be a bit more creative. This is my first swap. I'm still learning!

Anyway, I'm excited. I hope s/he likes it.
