WANTED: A Slice of Martha's Vineyard arrived

A heartfelt thankyou to lindainct for brightening my day yesterday. These swaps seem to have a way of showing up at the perfect time. It's not that I was having a bad day, it was just a crazy day. With the kitchen remodel going on, I NEEDED CHOCOLATE! AND WINE! Linda sent me items that were purchased on her recent trip to Martha's Vineyard, which happens to be a favorite place of ours. I can't wait to try the wonderful Pear Ginger marmalade and Basil/ Garlic herb vinegar.

She even remembered Kiki with a special dog treat.

Thanks everyone for your input. The evidence suggests that these things are indeed elephants. Though the vendor assured me they weren't elephants, and one of 'em was softneck, one cannot argue with the following: -- The two mutant little cormes on each one -- The number of folks in this thread who can look at the pics and say with certainty that they're elephants. I never grew elephant before, so I can't identify them by sight. -- They were not cured at all, and tasted and smelled terrible. I planted 11 of these cloves, four from the softneck on 16 October, rest from the two hardnecks 22 Oct. I'll try to remember to give a report of the results in June. Jay

Whoa! I'm ambling in a bit late on this swap. My horse pulled up lame and dab-nabbit, I couldn't make the round-up sooner. A litte Texas spirit from Bubbe here! (No, I'm not drinking yet). I love the regional stuff too. How excellent are those condiment dishes and the deliciousness to go with them? I love these swaps, so original, hardly an item repeated ('cept maybe a weeny prong or martoonie glass). I am loving the Fonda San Miguel Restaurant book. Terrific package, Brenda. CatMom, I am considering it. I didn't get my hands on her yesterday to put the collar on. So funny, my DH hasn't seen her yet! For some reason she disappears whenever he is around. She loved all the teenaged boys who were here Friday night, some of whom are big, so hopefully she isn't afraid of men. In the meantime, some fleas showed up on my dog Oscar. Of course DH is blaming the stray...I'm going to try to dust her with a little Diatomaceous earth. Until I know she doesn't have a family I wouldn't feel comfortable using Frontline or anything more aggressive. I included a photo of His Highness, depressed about his flea bath. Beth P.

I see the plane remnants washing up as comforting, like coming home, a sign. Jackie Kennedy Onassis' property is a reflection of what I've read and seen of her throughout my lifetime--beautiful property, luxurious, but not ostentatious. These properties may go the way of the "Downton Abbeys" of the world--they are expensive and labor intensive to maintain. Real estate cycles we can always depend upon. WSJ printed a recent article on Miami--which was in dire straights some years ago, came back full force and now luxury properties are being discounted. Seems foreign investors have backed off a bit. I imagine there are strict zoning laws as to what can happen to this property. As to Caroline and children, on a much smaller scale, my observations are that our children and grandchildren generally do not want to own property that takes so much of their time and resources, for the most part--out of sentiment. That goes down to family heirlooms, jewelry, furniture, etc. They usually want a few things but not everything we have inherited. Styles have changed, younger people seem to relish experiences more than possessions. Not a bad thing entirely; I suspect some they may regret later when they long for a historical connection to their ancestors. Caroline possesses more heirlooms of all sorts than most of us; there comes a time it becomes a burden, and yes after around fifty-five years of age most of us get a heads up from life to get our business in order and enjoy what life we have on our own terms. That property is a nice reminder of our history and glamour, the enigma of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, walking on the beach in ankle pants, a scarf and sunglasses, an enigma to us all, captivating. If only we did not know every detail about so many now!

That looks like a refreshing package! The bright green of the bowl and the white wine and vinegar would be a breath of fresh air...then you could dig into the chocolates! Enjoy your treat!

Oh yes, I'll second that "yum" on the pear/ginger marmalade, what a great mix of flavors.

I really like the color of that salad bowl too, it's so nice and summery, but I just can't believe that Kiki has gotten so big!

Wine and chocolate, who wouldn't love that, the perfect gift.
I love the salad bowl and serving spoon and fork, any salad would look good in that.

It's starting to heat up and get sweltering here -- all those colors seems so cool and citrus-y crisp. Even the yellow tissue paper has a nice splash!

Neat assortment of things, too. I love the sound of that marmelade. Is Kiki's biscuit whale-shaped?

Pear Ginger Marmalade sounds up my alley. Debbie, would you mind typing up the ingredietn list. Maybe I can recreate it (I guess I am being inspired by little miss Annie the canning recipe recreater).

Great package!! I think it is great when people include items from their travels. That is one handsome salad bowl.

Robin, here are the ingredients in the Ginger Pear Marmalade. Let us know if you make it and how it comes out. I haven't tried it yet, but will be buying some english muffins and will try it soon.

That salad bowl was supposed to be in MY package. It's the green of my accent walls in the kitchen(and my new almost completeded shower & laundry room).

MV seems the ideal summer place so how cool to have a whole package of things from there!

Yes, I knew that Debbie used lime green in the summer thanks to one of the "informational" posts and Kiki's treat is in the shape of a whale. The Good Dog Goods shop had all sorts of dog cookies in various designs.
I'm going to try to replicate the ginger pear marmalade,too.
Debbie, thanks for posting the picture of the salad bowl with your existing placemats etc. It looks to be a great match. I was having second thoughts when I started seeing other shades of green called lime.
