WANTED: Testing the Waters..............Mini Summer Swap???

| Just wondering if there is any interest in having a mini summer swap? Mini meaning 5 items or less and you can define or shape your own theme around "Summer". Suggestions would be Entertaining, Patio dining, BBQ, Picnics, summer drinks, etc..
The best time for me would be to get the process started in the next day or so with a sign up post, and give until maybe Thursday June 15th to sign up, get names out to everyone by June 18th or 19th and have a mailing date of no later than July 22nd. That would give everyone about 5 weeks to plan, shop and ship.
So if there is any interest let me know and I'll start a sign up thread.

Wasn't sure I would be able to do a regular swap in my finacial situation but I think I can swing a mini swap...sure will give me something to look forward to and having 5 weeks to plan and shop sounds great! Cheers!

| Wow, I go out for a couple of hours and come back to find that 21 have already signed up. Welcome back Jane. And it is nice to see a couple of "virgin" players as well. I was going to start a separate thread for signing up but instead let's just continue to use this thread. | Well, all along, I've been telling myself that when this day came, I'd have to bow out - as summer get so crazy here - after all, we only have about 15 days of nice weather - lol. (well, maybe a little more...) But here, it is...and all I keep thinking is, I'm going to Toronto in a couple of weeks -RIGHT after the partners are announced - how perfect is THAT??? With Chase and Phyllis to help me shop!!! So I apologize to that little voice that kept telling me to graciously bow out of the summer swap - I'm not listening this time. | I am so sad that I really cannot participate this time. We are buying a new house and the closing date is right in the middle of the swap. I don't think i will have the time for it. We are going to be visiting my family in Wisconsin when it ends, and I would love to look for items on my trip and mail it when I get back. I would probably be mailing, loosely, a week late. | Mary, Welcome to the forum. I think it is great that you want to join our swap. We like to encourage as much participation as possible but we do have the requirement that all participants must be active members of the cooking forum and post on a regular basis for a month or two before signing up a for a swap. I'm sure you can understand that most members do not feel comfortable having their names and addresses given to complete strangers or sending to someone that they do not know at all.

| Netla, that hasn't historically been a problem. I've shipped to Canada, to Germany, to Australia and to Japan. Sometimes the postage is prohibitive if a person is on a really strict budget, but there are always people who will jump into the fray and say they don't mind shipping to other countries. When I'm going to be short on cash I don't "volunteer", other times I do. SOMEONE will take up the gauntlet, I'm sure, and another swap person would be ecstatic to get a package from you. Annie

| At the risk of sounding like a very wet blanket --- based on some people's responses, I think maybe we should be a little more specific about what a "mini swap" really is. If we really are supposed to keep it to 5 items, I think people should try to stick to that, because otherwise other swappers follow the "rules' and then feel like they didn't do enough after people start showing their swap boxes. Otherwise maybe we shouldn't say it's a mini-swap and just go for the whole sha-bang. |

| LOL! You don't sound like a wet blanket Iris. But, we have addressed this before. Actually I think we address it every swap. LOL! The simple truth is that the members of this forum are extremely generous and apparently we love to shop and have a serious problem with "limits". Although I do intend to try and stick to the "5 item limit" and just be very selective about what I send. |

| Maggie. Because it is a "Secret" Swap it doesn't matter whether the number is odd or even. If you used the list above as an example the first person on the list, Linda (Doucanoe) would send to the next person Jessica, and so on right down the line with the last person Netla sending to the first person on the list. I try to make sure that no one sends to the same person twice and that you always send to someone in a different State. Ann PS. My Internet Provider has been having technical problems with their Email. So I have not been able to access my email account since last evening. Hopefully this will be corrected soon. |
