When I swap shop, I research the person. If I would see my partners likes 'vintage antiques' etc., I wouldn't hesistate. But if I see 'contemporary', I'd pass it by, unless it specifically ties into something that person likes (for example, Mustangs loves gadgets). So I guess my answer is - depends on my swap partner, not my whim.

Pauline, I would love things like that. My taste is pretty eclectic, though, so I'd probably agree with what Jessy wrote.

I agree with what Jessica said too. I put together a swap box once for Renee that was 90% Vintage items because I knew that she had a collection of vintage items in her country home. I like vintage items that are related to cooking or serving so it wouldn't bother me to receive something that wasn't new.

Yes, I agree Jessy. I have a sister who thinks patina is a dirty word (get it?). Everything in her home is new & shiny, I don't think vintage or antique would go over big with her - lol

New or old it doesn't matter to me. I have a beautiful old Ball canning jar that Lindainct sent men in my first swap and I love it. I have new pottery from wizardnm and old pottery also. I love it all. I guess I'm easy.

Pauline, personally, I think vintage items are wonderful. I am not an antique collector, but have a "vintage" (victorian) house. Plus, I think that is a wonderfully thoughtful touch to a package. I love my cake plate sent to me by Jessica in the last swap...the fact that she researched and found it on ebay and went to the bother because she thought it would "suit" me just makes it all the more special...

Not all "vintage" stuff has to look "used" or "worn", either ....

One of my favorite swap gifts is a "vintage" metal grape pitcher that AnnT bought for me from eBay. Sometimes the "vintage" stuff is so much nicer than the new stuff because it's more interesting and unique.

I agree with Jessy though that of course, not everyone feels that way, so it depends on your swap partner. But then again, the whole idea is to try to tailor the gift to your swap partner, so that same thing could be said about a lot of things.

Oh my, oh my! I must say thanks for bring up the subject! It opens up a number of possibilities for a swap!

Oooooh. That's a hard one. It would have to be something very practical and usable, because in the last year or two I have started getting rid of things we don't use with increasing fervor. I am getting rid of almost all the boxes I have in my collection of little boxes, and a lot of the little nice things I have accumulated over the years.

But I love vintage stuff. I collect the old melamine bowls-the ones that look like melted crayons, and I love kitchy sorts of things. I have a little miniature ceramic clawfoot tub that has flamingos on the side, that I keep around to put change in, and I just can't seem to part with the silly thing. Go figure.

It's not really a matter of new/old/used, whatever, for me. It's a matter of practical, well-made.

If anyone collects boxes, I probably should get their name! LOL

I had bought one of those vintage black panther lamps at a yardsale years ago - threw it out when we moved. Evidently, they are quite the collectible, worth a couple hundred $ - drats (too bad my foot doesn't reach my tush)!!!

Although I am getting rid of most of my antiques (giving them to my kids), I love vintage things. I still have a tin collection, and some green handle kitchen tools (although I prefer the red handled ones) and a vintage sifter. They have a lot more charm than a lot of the new stuff. I, for one, would cherish something vintage.

Vintage is great for me. My small kitchen is decorated with chalkware, the gaudier the better. Just this last weekend I picked up a tiny foly food mill, only holds a cup and a half. I gave it to the 3 yr old for her kitchen. The only problem is I caught her crushing her Ritz bits in it:) Most of my kitchen stuff is vintage from flea markets, garage sales and what ever. My mixing bowls are the solid colored pyrex nesting bowls( although I have at least 2 of each size). My silverware came from an auction. So bring on the vintage. I can so I just love the old blue and green canning jars for storage or decorations:)

Vintage okay by me as well! My folks didn't really value family items, so unfortunately, I don't have many keepsakes. I love things that have a history. I do have my mom's silver and her elegant depression glass though.

It would be great with me. KatieC sent me a syrup pitcher with a red handle and red crocheted doilie in one swap. It has a permanent place on my kitchen table, reminds me of when I was a little girl. We had one like that, I know we did, but it didn't have the red handle.

In the last swap I got some Vermont syrup from Robin, it was so good and looked good in the pitcher too.

I would love it! And if I found a nice vintage item(s), I would not hesitate to swap it, long as there were no major red flags against it in research.

I'm another person who wouldn't mind "vintage" at all. I have a lovely old pink pressed glass bowl on my counter that belonged to my Grandmother, I keep fruit it it. Ashley's favorite "dishes" are my old individual square Corningware casseroles, leftover from my childhood. RuddMD sent me a great brown dripware cookie jar, another of my childhood memories.

So, yes, certainly vintage. My house is mostly second hand stuff anyway, it'll fit right in. Plus, the older stuff is so well made, it'll probably last into another generation!

I love old kitchen things. I rarely go such places becuase out here prices tend to be way out of line. But I adore old linens, quaint painted dessert plates and old aluminum cooking items. In fact I'd kill for an old Log Cabin Tin, the ones that were like log cabins or a green glass lemon juicer like my mom used to have. And old milk bottles are wonderful. Lots of stuff. New is not always best.

I like vintage items that are useful. I love brightly colored glass vases and pitchers and the older ones are often so beautiful.
