HAVE: msprettyky takes the cake

I was so excited to get my box in the mail today. Rhiannon was up and helped me open the box. I will post pics in the morning when the batteries are charged. First at the top of the box was a pair of stuffed Easter Bunnies one for Rhiannon and one for Peyton. They were so excited and carried their bunnies around all day. Then 1st was a backe and fill pan, one of the ones that makes a half round cake with different layers inside. I had to go to the store to get a cake mix ( sorry don't do homemade yet) because Rhiannon swears it is for her birthday ( June 21st). I had mentioned that baking was one area that I wanted to do more of and that the girls love to help. Second was a vintage pressed glass cake plate and a crystal cut serving dish. Unfortunately the serving dish was a victim of the USPS and didn't make it in one piece, despite the careful wrapping. I love vintage anything and will have to take a pic of the cake on the plate. Third was a oil and vinegar bottle with a bottle of EVOO and wine vinegar. Brenda knew that we do lots of gardening and eat lots of veggies, this will be great when we have our salads.

Brenda was kind enough to send some seeds along with the letter explaining the package. I can't wait for spring to get here to plant the seeds. I am so excited about my box and was perfect for me:)

Fava greens, of course. They are as good or better than pea greens, and are good both raw and cooked, and you can buy the less expensive cattle fava cover crop seeds (the taste and aspect of leaves is indistinguishable). It is difficult to have an edible crop that is not leaves, though. In Zone 9 you can plant a variety of winter crops, harvest part of them, and use the rest as cover crop. I do not recommend those with extensive roots, though, like chicories or beta spp., since they will come up again and again after first mowing. Lettuce will work for sure.

Stimulus Checks--This one takes the cake

Just one person's opinion--but the machine should NOT be programmed to give checks to dead people. Her taxes were filed, clearly labeled that she was deceased, and this letter acknowledges that fact. When the check arrives, it will go into the estate account. It's NOT legal for me to do anything but divide this money among the heirs. I cannot--as executor--make the decision to donate this to charity. As executor, I've got the fiduciary responsibility of doing exactly what her will specifies--no more, no less. It's illegal to do otherwise. So looks like we'll each be getting an extra $75 when I make the final distribution. Well, it's a nice dinner out with our spouses--something Mom would approve of. She LOVED going out to eat.

Maybe dumb question but are the fixtures on top of the cake edible? Are they dollhouse miniatures? My mother would have loved this cake being that she was a dollhouse enthusiast who built 6 dollhouses and made miniature furniture and linens. Isn't it amazing how talented people can be!

Mom2, In a way, BM's performance over the weekend might have been the best thing, a "silver lining" event. The skids aren't that thrilled to be with her, she is being so flaky that you don't have to work to hard to accomodate her and my goodness, how many people are at the house? It sounded like upwards of 15 folks conservatively with all of the various kids? Let her come to you and yours. And let her come correct! It sounds like since you cooperated, you can uncooperate now without a confrontation. She needs to fit in with your team, not the other way around. It sounds bad but it might really help you now. ''how you can be a good parent to one set of children and then completely ignore your other kids. how can one do that???" BTW, my skids, SS30 in particular, feel that my DH is being a better father with our son than he was with them. From what I know, they are right. Dh completely ignores his grandkids which of course feeds right in to the hard feelings. Lovehadley is right, often dads look at the 2nd set of children or child as a means to do things over in a better way. DH is not Super involved at the school or extracurriculars but he does show up for meetings, parent teacher conferences, Tae Kwon Do promotions, the occasional kiddie party if he knows the parents and so on. I know he did not do that with his first set of kids, SS in particular. My SS30 is still very angry about this fact. I think it's pretty common but what can I do? Tell him DON'T be a better father to our child because you weren't great with your first? Good luck.

Okay here are the pics I promised. Sorry took some time to get everything set up and with 2 little helpers took longer than expected.

Here is the cake pan. Rhiannon is after me already to make her a cake.

Here is the cake plate and a couple pieces from the one that didn't make it.

Here is the oil and vinegar cruet and some oil and vinegar to fill it. I can't wait to make salads tonight:)

And last a pic of the girls and their bunnies. Don't mind the bed head and Rhiannon wearing her Cinderella dress. Peyton got into the Cheetos early this morning.

Thanks for waiting for the pics. I only had to go and hollar at the girls 5 times while trying to post the pics.

Stacie, Brenda sent you a beautiful swap box. How unfortunately that one of the pieces broke. I love vintage cake plates and that one is especially nice.

Thanks for posting a pic of your two girls with their bunnies. Soooo cute.

The Fill Cake pan is too cool....I love it!

I really like the vintage footed cake plate..how gorgeous is that!! I love vintage stuff! I am so sorry about the plate that was broken as the remaining pieces are so pretty. I don't think it matters how well you pack sometimes, while at the airport I've seen forklifts run over luggage, and I witnessed it more then once!

The oil and vinegar cruet is so cute and handy!

Your girls are just adorable and I like the Cinderella dress too!

stacie, what a nice box and that your girls were thought of as well, that makes it so special.

i just saw that pan while i was in a store a few weeks back. i love the plates - i have several. as for breaking, i worry about that all the time. you should see how fanatical i wrapped michelle's items and even then was so worried.

enjoy it all...can't wait to see your first cake picture and your girls, cheetos and all, are just darling!

Many times I have received broken objcts when glass..I think It's a matter of compacting almost!

I feel really bad about the platter. I tried my best to pack it carefully. I am glad I found two things for category 2. The girls are beautiful, glad they liked the bunnies. I tried to give them something so maybe they would let mom open her package. It was worth a try! :)
Atleast the package arrived "somewhat" safe...

Brenda, what a great package! The cake pan I'm sure will be put to good use by Stacie and her "helpers". The vintage plate is gorgeous! Stacie, your daughters are adorable - the Cheetos face is priceless! Enjoy your gifts!

What a great package, Amanda wants one of those cake pans too, maybe she'll find one in her Easter basket! Be sure and let us know how those cakes come out.

The plate is beautiful, but not as beautiful as Cinderella and the Cheeto Kid. (grin)

Enjoy your package, Stacie, that's too bad about the broken plate but at least you got another one to make up for it/

Well, my favorite is the cake plate (and the broken one would have been favorite number 2! LOL) The girls will love a cake with all those layers, how cool. You will have the best dressed salads in town with that cool cruet, too!

Stacie, your girls are just so cute, I would have a hard time hollering at them! Looks like they love their bunnies, how sweet of Brenda to include them!

Love that cake plate. I confess to having a mini collection of cake plates. They are so great for adding height to a buffet table. That one is lovely.

I've been curious about those cake pans. The nieces and grandkids would love making a cake like that. And your 2 adorable girls will obviously be big helpers!

Nice vintage stuff! I love getting swap partners who like that - makes it fun to shop on ebay. So nice of you to think of the girls! I hear the solution for cheeto faces is to get a dog.

I recognize that cheeto-face -- I had that just last weekend!

What wonderful gifts you can share with your girls. I remember my grandmother had something similar to those pans when I was a kid, and it was so neat to be allowed in on the secret of how they were made.
